Please Come Back, My Love novel Chapter 203

Amaris POV

1

My plan had been simple: avoid every shred of information about Theron and Zinnia’s press conference. I skipped the cafeteria entirely to steer clear of the gossiping employees eager to dissect the company’s CEO and his freshly minted fiancée. Unfortunately, the plan unraveled the moment the coffee machine on my floor gave up the ghost, leaving me no choice but to venture down to Marketing for a fix.

As I waited for my cup to fill, voices drifted from around the corridor.

“I nearly laughed out loud,” one woman was saying, her voice sharp with amusement. “Mr. Lockhart sat there like a statue while Ms. Chun tried really tried to convince everyone they’re in love. She was honestly pathetic.”

A second voice chimed in with a giggle. “I almost pitied her.”

“Same,” the first one said with a snort. “Did you see that monstrosity on her finger?”

“Who didn’t? That diamond’s so big, I’m sure it’s physically painful to wear.”

I clenched my jaw and cursed silently as I waited for the painfully slow machine to finish. Couldn’t they take their gossip

somewhere else? Or at least lower their voices?

More laughter rang out.

“Ms. Chun really thinks she can one-up Mr. Lockhart’s ex?” one sneered,

“You mean the one who still works here?”

I bit the inside of my cheek and stared daggers at the espresso spout. Why was one small coffee taking forever?

“I think her name was Kennerly. Amaris. Wonder what ended things between them.”

“I heard there was a massive fight some say it was because of Ms. Chun. But now it’s pretty obvious. He dumped her for the

merger.”

“Tch. Men with money are something else.”

“Well, if you saw his face at the press conference, you’d swear he was being held hostage. Didn’t crack a smile once.”

At last, the cup filled to the brim. I snatched it away, sloshing some on the floor in my haste, and stormed back to the elevators. I slammed the button and ducked into the car the moment the doors opened, my heart racing.

Some small, bitter part of me was pleased Zinnia hadn’t received the warm public reception she was hoping for but I also knew she wouldn’t take hat blow quietly. Zinnia Chun was not the type to suffer defeat without retribution. She’d be scheming already.

Chapter 203

“This isn’t your problem, Ami,” I muttered under my breath as I walked back into my office. “Just focus on your job.”

I took a few calming sips of the coffee before placing the cup on my desk and pulling my attention back to the laptop screen.

Romilly glanced at me from the desk beside mine. “Something happen?”

I offered a hollow smile and shook my head. “Nothing worth getting worked up over.” I wished my words had the power to make it

true.

By the time the Spanish version of the Radiant App passed all the basic functionality tests, most of the team had gone home. I stayed behind to run one final diagnostic. The test had barely started when the door flung open and Zinnia stormed into my office.

I looked up, locking eyes with her. “You do know how to knock, right?”

She strode toward me, fury radiating from every step. “You manipulative little bitch,” she hissed. “Just admit it you did it to

humiliate me.”

I leaned back, raising an eyebrow. “Did what?”

“You knew those reporters. The same ones who used to gush over your little app. You fed them something to ruin my image with

Theron.”

My patience snapped, but I kept my face blank. “You’re out of your mind.”

Her hands slammed onto my desk as she leaned in, face flushed with rage. “They made it sound like you’re Theron’s true love, and

I’m the villain forcing him into marriage!”

I nearly laughed, but kept my voice level. “And that’s somehow my fault?”

“Give me your phone,” she barked, palm extended.

“No.”

“I said give me your fucking phone!” she snarled, grabbing it before I could react.

“Hey!” I jumped to my feet, furious I hadn’t locked the screen. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”

She darted to the other side of the office, scrolling through my contacts like she had any right. I stormed after her and ripped it

back from her grip.

“What’s your deal, Zinnia?”

“You!” she spat. “I want you out of his life. Gone.”

I crossed my ams, unbothered by her meltdown. “Well, that’s not going to happen.”

Chapter 203

“Stay away from Theron,” she seethed.

“We’re broken up. He avoids me like the plague. We don’t even cross paths at work. What more do you want from me?”

“I want you erased,” she hissed. “You never belonged by his side. You never fit.”

Then her lips curled into a smirk. “I know all about you, Amaris Kennerly. Even after I left, I kept tabs on you. Solene kept me

informed. The way his friends treated you? The humiliation? It was delightful.”

My jaw tightened at the mention of Solene that blonde snake who helped turn me into a pariah. Had she been Zinnia’s puppet the

whole time?

“I’m glad you found my pain so entertaining,” I said coldly, every word vibrating with anger.

She clasped her hands, a satisfied smile playing on her lips. “And those rumors? Zebulon’s idea. Clever man, really.”
