Chapter 204
THERON POV
A familiar restlessness crept into my veins, tightening my muscles until I couldn’t sit still. By the time I registered what I was doing, I was already in the elevator, my hand hovering over the button for Ami’s floor. I shouldn’t have gone should’ve kept my distance. But tonight, that restraint didn’t exist.
One of my most trusted security officers had told me she was still in the building, burning the midnight oil as usual. That alone wasn’t cause for concern. What set me on edge was the fact that Zinnia had entered the building not long before.
I waited. Long enough for her to make it from the lobby to my office. But she never came.
Which meant she had business elsewhere and I didn’t need a map to know where she’d gone.
I moved quickly, my footsteps echoing through the corridor as my pulse pounded like a war drum. The sharp slam of a door
somewhere around the corner jolted me, the sound unmistakably close. My stomach sank.
Then I saw her.
Zinnia stepped into view, her confident stride faltering the moment our eyes met. Her brows arched in surprise. “What are you
doing here?” she asked, her voice instantly sharp, accusatory.
I clenched my jaw. “Believe it or not, I came looking for you.”
A dry laugh escaped her lips. “Really? And why would you be looking for me on that bitch’s floor?”
I narrowed my eyes. “Call it a hunch. A good one, apparently. So maybe you should be the one answering questions. What the hell
are you doing here?”
She hesitated for a fraction too long. “I went to see her.”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
My fists tightened. “What did you say to her?”
She lifted her chin, jaw clenched. “I had to confirm something. I think she leaked information to the press. That’s why those awful articles came out, comparing me to her. As if the two of us even belong in the same sentence.”
My temper spiked. “You blamed her for that?” A bitter laugh tore from my throat. “Has it not occurred to you that maybe your story was so thin, so fabricated, that even the reporters couldn’t buy it?”
Zinnia steppe closer, eyes blazing. “They believed her when she spoke about you. Why wouldn’t they believe me now?” she

snapped. “She must have said something. She’s trying to destroy my reputation.”
I pinched the bridge of my nose, barely holding it together. “You need help.”
Her eyes flared. “Don’t you dare talk to me like that!”
“And don’t you dare pretend she’s some manipulative saint. You’ll see soon enough what she really is!” she hissed. Then, muttering something in Mandarin under her breath, she brushed past me and stormed toward the elevator.
I watched her disappear, every muscle in my body tense. Part of me wanted to charge down the hall and check on Ami, but I knew Zinnia’s spies could be lurking. I couldn’t afford to tip my hand.
Back in my office, I reached for the secure phone and typed out a message.
“I know Zinnia was at your office. Are you okay?”
A beat passed.
“I’m fine. She said something vague about exposing me, but I couldn’t make sense of it.”
I cursed under my breath. She’d said something similar to me too.
“Don’t worry. I’ll handle her. I won’t let her come near you again. See you soon.”
Her reply came almost instantly.
“See you soon. Miss you already.”
