Chapter 206
THERON POV
Hours had passed since I’d returned from the residence, but the tension in my body refused to ease. My muscles stayed taut, my stomach coiled in knots as my mind spun through countless possibilities. I clenched my jaw, teeth grinding in frustration over the crumbs of information Father had handed me just enough to cause unease, but far from anything concrete I could dissect or
investigate.
It would’ve been so much easier if he had simply laid it all out. If he’d told me plainly what he and Uncle Otis had done what shady, possibly criminal choices they had made to keep the company above water. But instead, I was left with a chasm of unanswered
questions.
My grip tightened dangerously around the whiskey glass in my hand. One more ounce of pressure, and it might’ve shattered.
Idiots. Both of them. My father and his brother. They’d made their bed, and now he expected me to straighten the sheets. But what if the damage was already beyond repair?
“You haven’t spoken to your mother, have you?” Manny asked from the sofa across the room, his voice breaking through the storm
in my head.
I shook my head. “Sunniva said she had an important meeting and left.
He arched a brow. “You think she’s dodging you after how things ended the last time?”
ZA
“Wouldn’t surprise me.” My tone was clipped. “I might have to apologize before she’ll even sit down with me.”
Manny let out a dry chuckle. “Would that be so painful?”
I shot him a look. “Last time I apologized to her, I was five. After the kidnapping… after the way she treated me, I swore I’d never
do it again.”
“That’s unfortunate,” he muttered. “Because you need her now. And ‘I’m sorry’ is a cheap price to pay if it gets her on your side.”
I rubbed at my temples, the dull throb of stress pushing harder against my skull. “I know. I just… I think she knows something about Zinnia. She’s never truly opposed Ami not like this. But Zinnia? She despises her. And that’s not just instinct. It’s knowledge.”
“Speaking of the red-lipped devil,” Manny said, a mischievous glint in his eye, “how did she react to the articles?”
“She blamed Ami,” I muttered.
He blinked. “Seriously?”
I gave a tired smile. “Dead serious. She even swore she’d expose Ami for who she really is as if that would change anything.”

Chapter 206
Manny scratched at his jaw, incredulous. “You broke up with Ami, and she still wants to go after her?”
“She sees her as a threat. Somehow,” I replied, voice low with frustration.
“Well, she wants the full experience,” he said with a shrug. “Wants you to treat her like a real fiancée. She saw how you were with
Ami. She wants that.”
I exhaled, the breath long and bitter. “But that’s not how this works. I told her I don’t love her. That whatever feelings I had are gone, and they’re not coming back. What does she want lies? A performance?”
Manny leaned forward, thoughtful. “Maybe she actually believes she can win you back… or maybe there’s more going on some play we haven’t seen yet.”
I swore under my breath and leaned my head back. “I’m so damn tired of all this. Sometimes I miss the days when Renzo was my only headache.”
Manny laughed, lifting his glass. “Speaking of Renzo… don’t you think the two of you might be after the same thing right now?”
I gave him a flat stare. “We both want the consortium. And we both seem to want the same woman. That’s hardly a reason for a
truce.”
