Chapter 208
AMARIS POV
“Something’s come up. Urgent matters. We can’t meet tonight.”
I stared at the message from Theron, a knot tightening in my chest. He was doing it again shutting me out. Hadn’t we promised to
keep each other in the loop, no matter what??
When my team had contacted Wong, I’d sent Romilly to update Theron immediately. Yet here he was, disappearing behind vague excuses. Would it have cost him so much to at least tell me why he had to cancel?
I sank onto the edge of the bed, pressing a palm against the dull ache beneath my ribs. When would I ever find the right time to tell him how I truly felt? I kept clinging to the hope that a confession might change things between us that maybe he’d feel compelled
to open up too.
The mere thought made my cheeks warm. What if, after everything, Theron admitted he felt the same? The possibility made my
heart stutter.
But what if I was alone in this?
What if what he’d once felt for me had dissolved the moment Zinnia returned? Maybe that explained the distance, the secrets, the evasive messages. Maybe he was already letting me go.
I took a shaky breath, my chest tightening with every inhale. Was I imagining all of this?
Maybe.
Maybe not.
He was neck-deep in a silent war for control of his company a war he could very well lose. That had to be the reason behind his sudden coldness. Didn’t it?
Sighing, I dragged myself to the bathroom, desperate for a long, hot shower to drown out my spiraling thoughts. I told myself that things would be clearer in the morning.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Morning came, and I sent Theron a short message: Hope your day starts well. Nothing too serious. Just something. Still no reply. I tried to brush it off. He was busy, after all. This could just be one of those days buried under corporate chaos.
But something in my gut told me otherwise.
Later in the afternoon, as the office began to empty out, I lingered. Not because I was a workaholic far from it but because losing myself in files and tasks kept my thoughts away from him.

Chapter 208
Eventually, I called it a day. I messaged Hollis to get the car ready and stepped out of my office. As I waited by the elevator, my phone buzzed and my breath hitched.
It was the secured line Theron had given me.
I answered quickly. “Hello?”
“Ami,” he said, his voice sharp, clipped, almost cold. “I need you to come to Lazaro’s base. I’ve just sent you the coordinates. Show them to Hollis. He’ll bring you.”
“Did something happen?” My throat went dry.
There was a pause.
“Yes,” he finally said. “It’s about something Zinnia showed me.”
“What was it?” I whispered, already dreading the answer.
“Pictures,” he ground out. “Pictures of you.”
My breath stalled. “What kind of pictures?”
“They’re not incriminating,” he muttered. “But we need to confirm something.”
“Okay,” I murmured, already moving, already tense. My heart was hammering before I even reached the parking lot.
