Please Come Back, My Love novel Chapter 209

Chapter 209

Theron stood waiting in the hallway, looking exhausted and unreadable.

Without thinking, I rushed to him and threw my arms around his neck. But instead of pulling me close, his body stiffened.

“You’re not… happy to see me?” I asked, my voice small as I looked up at him.

He forced a faint smile, brushing a quick kiss against my lips before stepping back. “Later,” he said, then turned and gestured for me

to follow.

I clenched my jaw. “Are you going to tell me what this is all about now?”

He paused at the end of the corridor, turning to face me. “There’s a man inside who claims he knew both you and your father. He’s made some serious accusations and he says he can prove them. I don’t want to believe a word he says. That’s why I need you to talk to him. Maybe seeing you will shake the lies out of him.”

I swallowed and gave a tight nod.

Theron held my gaze for a beat longer, then opened the door and stepped aside.

“You’re not coming with me?” I asked, barely above a whisper.

He shook his head. “He’s cuffed to the table. You’ll be safe. Lazaro and I will be watching and listening. If anything happens, we’ll

be in there fast.”

Drawing a deep breath, I walked in. The door clicked shut behind me.

The stark white light made my eyes squint. It was cold and sterile an interrogation room. Gray walls. A two-way mirror. A single

table with two chairs.

One of them was already occupied.

My breath caught. I recognized the man sitting there. Curly auburn hair, slouched posture. A face from a life long buried.

“Ami?” he said with a soft chuckle. “Amaris Kennerly? Wow. You’ve grown into quite the beautiful woman.”

A chill crawled down my spine as I slowly took the chair across from him.

“Mr. Thayer?” I breathed.

He grinned and gestured toward the mirror. “Told them you’d remember me. We worked together for a long time, after all.”

My brows pulled together. “Worked together?”

He shrugged. “All those deliveries Documents. Stuff your gathered for nie. We made a good teams, dider

“I don’t understand. I said, forcing a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. “I just bought you packages.

“Exactly,” he nodded. “Always on time. Always got what I needed. Smart girl.

My fists clenched in my lap. “You’re wrong,” I said flatly. “My father prepared everything. I only helped when the packages we

light.”

“Like paperwork,” he added, eyes glinting. “Light enough for you to carry.”

“I never delivered documents,” I snapped. “Just receipts, nothing more.”

He laughed and slid a photo across the table. “You sure about that? Look familiar?”

1 froze.

It was a picture of me standing next to Mr. Thayer. I recognized the yard in the background; it was outside his old house. But in my hands was a folder I didn’t recognize. A thick, dark folder.

“I don’t remember bringing you that,” I said quietly. “I only ever carried stuff from the workshop.”

“Maybe that’s what your father told you.” His voice dropped. “Or maybe you don’t want to admit you were working for her.”

My stomach turned. “Who?”

He smiled like a man enjoying a private joke. “Mrs. Lockhart.”

“What?” My voice cracked.

“You can drop the act now,” he said. “You’re good, but not that good.”

“Stop what?” I snapped.

He leaned forward, eyes cold, and pushed another set of photographs toward me.

My vision swam. There he was again handing over documents to Mrs. Lockhart.

I slapped a hand over my mouth, bile rising.

“No point denying it,” he said smoothly. “The truth’s in front of you.”
