Do you know how delicate I am?
Grace
I looked around the room, and honestly, it wasn’t bad. Unlike the chaos from before, everything actually looked organized. People were working together, chatting, even laughing as they went through their assigned tasks. It had only been a few minutes since we divided the duties, and things were going smoothly.
Well, almost everything.
“Ah!”
The sharp scream made everyone turn.
There, at the far end of the room, Piper stood glaring at me a box lying at her feet. Her face was red from anger. If looks could kill, I’d been six feet under.
“How dare you give me a hard task like this, Grace!” she snapped, voice shrill. “Do you know how delicate I am? And you’re making me carry heavy boxes like a servant!? I just did my nails for fucks sake. If they break, will you take responsibility? And what if my dress gets dirty. Do you know how expensive it is? You can’t even afford it.”
I stared at her, still holding the box in my own hands, one that was clearly heavier than hers.
A few minutes ago, when we were dividing teams, no one wanted to be paired with Piper. Everyone said she’d make things harder for them, and honestly, they weren’t wrong. So, to keep the peace, I’d volunteered to take her on my team. All we had to do was move and arrange a few boxes. Simple enough. Or at least, it should have been. But clearly, even that was turning into a disaster.
We hadn’t even unpacked one box, and she was already complaining.
Around us, a few people exchanged looks, some rolling their eyes, others whispering under their breath. The disgust on their faces said it all. Piper didn’t notice, too busy crossing her arms like a child throwing a tantrum.
“I want to be changed!” she continued. “Just because you were put in charge doesn’t mean you can boss everyone around however you like!”
I exhaled slowly, trying to keep my patience. Piper really was a pain in the ass.
“If you can’t do this, then what exactly do you want to do?”
Piper crossed her arms, scowling. “I don’t want to do anything. I came here to work as a PR agent, not a slave. Besides, the PR department isn’t even supposed to handle this. We’re supposed to be at the party, making sure everything runs smoothly since that’s our job. But thanks to your stupid opinion, we’re stuck here working with the sales department.”
I stared at her, frowning. Honestly, the more she talked, the more brain cells I felt were dying. Judging by the looks on everyone else’s faces, I wasn’t the only one. She didn’t just sound unprofessional, she sounded completely ridiculous.
I was about to respond when a voice called out from behind me.
“Grace.”
I turned, and there was Mr. Aiden, arms crossed, his sharp aze sweeping across the room. The moment his eyes landed on Piper, they hardened. He’d definitely heard every hing she said. Piper flinched under his stare, taking a hesitant step back.
Without sparing her another glance, he turned to me, his expression softening slightly. “What are you doing backstage?”

“I’m working, sir,” I said quickly.
He shook his head. “No, you’re not working here, Grace. You’re supposed to be in the main hall.”
I blinked, caught off guard. The main hall? Only Important Employees were assigned there,
For a moment, I braced myself for the glares, and accusations of favoritism. Working in the main hall was a big deal; it meant being around influential people, a chance to network and make real connections. But instead of resentment, I was met with smiles. A few of them even gave me discreet thumbs–ups, their expressions warm and genuinely encouraging.
“Let’s go.” Mr. Aiden said.
“O–oh, right.” I set the box down and was about to follow him when Piper’s voice cut sharply through the air.
“Wait, that’s not fair!” she blurted, her voice high and sharp enough to draw a few stares. “Why does she get to go to the main hall and I don’t? I want to go too, Mr. Aiden. I deserve that spot more than her!”
The room went quiet for a moment.
Mr. Aiden turned to her with a glare that could’ve frozen air Piper visibly shrank back again.
“Instead of talking too much,” he said coolly, “you should pack the remaining boxes. I expect it to be done before I get back.”
Piper blinked rapidly, her lips parting. “M–me?”
“Do you see me talking to anyone else?” he asked, one brow lifting slightly.
Her head shook so fast I almost laughed. “I’ll get it done now, sir,”
“Good. Now,” he said, glancing back at me, “let’s go. The gala’s already started.”
He walked ahead, and I turned back to Piper.
Her hands clenched into fists, nails biting into her palms, and the look she gave me could’ve burned holes through my skin. “It’s all your fault, everything’s gone wrong because of you,” she hissed. “I’ll make you regret it.”
I tilted my head slightly, unimpressed. “You really need to see a good therapist, Piper.”
Her face flushed an even deeper red, but I didn’t wait for a response. Paying her any more attention would only make her think she mattered.
I followed after Mr. Aiden, my heels clicking softly against the marble floor.
The moment I stepped into the main hall, I almost gasped.
My eyes widened in awe. It was like walking straight into a movie scene.
The room glittered with chandeliers, golden lights cascading over people dressed in elegance. Celebrities, politicians, and powerful figures filled the hall, their laugher blending with the soft hum of classical music. Women wore dresses that shimmered like diamonds, men looked like they’d stepped out of luxury magazines, tailored suits and expensive watches gleaming under the lights.
Cameras flashed as they walked, sipping champagne like they had nothing in the world to worry about.
No wonder the Reed Company was one of the most powerf in the world, this single event alone must’ve cost
millions.
