I sat at the table with my arms crossed, my posture relaxed, my gaze briefly falling on the neatly arranged food before shifting indifferently to the other side of the room.

Grace was there, standing with her friend, looking utterly lost.

She nodded along to whatever her friend was saying, her brows drawn together in confusion, her hands fidgeting as if she was trying to keep herself sane. She looked overwhelmed, and unsure, as though she couldn’t quite process everything happening around her.

I leaned back slightly in my chair, letting my eyes linger on her longer than necessary as I studied her in

silence.

I loved it when she reacted like this.

Every time we were close, she seemed torn between staying and running, like a cautious little rabbit caught between instinct and desire. Always searching for an escape route. It was amusing, and endearing, because there was no escape. She was already caught. She just didn’t realize it yet.

I can’t stop loving you.

Her words echoed in my mind. My lips curved slightly into a pleased smile before I could stop myself.

When I heard she was sick yesterday, I hadn’t hesitated for even a second. I dropped everything, ignored meetings worth millions, and came here without a thought for consequences.

That wasn’t like me.

I wasn’t the kind of man who abandoned work for someone else. I didn’t visit people’s homes. I didn’t stay for dinner. And yet, when I stayed beside her yesterday, feeling her cling to me as though I were the only solid thing in her world, I felt content.

A light tap landed on my arm.

I pulled my gaze away from Grace and looked down to find a small girl sitting beside me, staring up with an expression far too mischievous for her age. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she grinned.

Mr. Handsome, she said brightly. Who are you?

I raised an eyebrow, mildly surprised but not displeased.

Before I could answer, she tilted her head and added, Are you Aunt Grace’s boyfriend?

I paused.

Two pairs of eyes were now fixed on me. The boy beside her leaned forward eagerly, his posture suddenly competitive. He frowned, clearly displeased by the idea.

He jabbed a thumb against his own chest. You’re not, right? Because the only person who’s Aunt Grace’s boyfriend is me.

I watched the little girl suddenly swing her hand and smack her brother on the arm.

Ouch, Liana!the boy yelped, clutching his arm and glaring at her.

She rolled her eyes at him with disdain. Don’t be stupid, Lucas. You’re not Aunt Grace’s boyfriend. You’re too ugly to be Aunt Grace’s girlfriend. She said it then she turned back to me, sweeping her hand in my direction as if presenting undeniable evidence. Just look at him. He’s perfect. He’s hot, handsome, rich, and he only looks at Aunt Grace, He’s obviously the perfect person to be her boyfriend.

Lucas stared at me for a long moment, his head tilted as if he was seriously evaluating her argument. Then he nodded solemnly. You’re right. He’s perfect to be her boyfriend. He’s Aunt Grace’s type.

I studied the two of them quietly. Without saying a word, I reached into my pocket and pulled out my wallet. I slid it open, took every bill inside, and placed them neatly on the table. Then I pulled out my checkbook and pen, wrote a number without hesitation, and laid the check beside the cash. 9

One million dollars.

Both children froze, their mouths falling open as they stared at the table.

Wwhat is this?Liana asked, her voice suddenly much smaller.

I looked at her calmly. A reward.

Reward?1

Smart kids should be rewarded.

Lucas slowly lifted his head to look at me again, his eyes wide with disbelief. Soyou’re saying Aunt Grace is your-

You’re right, I’m your aunt’s boyfriend.

They both gasped.

I knew it!Liana exclaimed, slapping her hands together. I knew there was something between Aunt Grace and her boss. Oh my God, it’s just like the romance books I read. She grabbed the money on the table without hesitation, grinning from ear to ear. Lucas, we have a rich uncle. Let’s spend this on new toys.

Lucas nodded enthusiastically, already sold on the idea.

Just then, their father walked in carrying a plate of food. He stopped when he saw the cash and check in his children’s hands, blinking in shock. Where did you get that?

Liana beamed and pointed straight at me. Our rich uncle gave it to us.

I felt their father’s gaze linger on me for a second too long before he finally let out a tired sigh. I’m sorry, Mr. Reed,he said apologetically. I shouldn’t have left you alone with the kids. They shouldn’t have taken advantage of you like that.

I shifted my gaze to him, my tone flat when I replied, They didn’t ask. I gave it to them.

Huh?He blinked, clearly confused, but before he could say anything else, footsteps approached from the hallway.

Grace and her friend walked back into the living room. The moment I saw her, my attention locked onto her

She looked up, and froze. Her eyes widened for just a split second before her face flushed a deep red.

Interesting. So she remembered. I had wondered if she truly recalled what happened last night or if she was pretending ignorance earlier in the bathroom, but that reaction answered my question clearly.

Her friend smiled easily. We’re back. Sorry for the delay. Let’s eat dinner, she said cheerfully, then turned to Grace and frowned when Grace moved toward one of the twins. What are you doing? That’s not your seat.

But-Grace,tried to protest.

Her friend didn’t let her finish. She grabbed Grace by the hand and dragged her toward the chair beside mine. Sit here. The twins should sit together.

Grace hesitated, biting her lip, then sighed softly and sat down next to me, her posture stiff and far too proper. My eyes never left her. She looked distracted, flustered, clearly struggling to avoid my gaze, as if looking at me for even a second would make her combust.

Slowly, I placed my hand on her thigh beneath the table.

She sucked in a sharp breath and turned to look at me. Iwhat are you doing?

I kept my expression neutral, then leaned closer, my lips brushing her ear as I spoke in a low growl meant for her alone.

I’m not a polite man, Grace. Stop squirming,I murmured, my fingers tightening just enough to remind her who was in control. Because the more you do, the harder it becomes for me to restrain myself.

I leaned closer, my voice dropping.

And I very much want to see you writhe.
