You’re so in love, girl

Grace

I looked at Apollo for a moment, my heart pounding so hard in my chest.

I swallowed, but my throat was painfully dry.

Oh my God. This man.

This was exactly why I didn’t want to sit beside him. It wasn’t because I was afraid of him. I wasn’t scared of Apollo anymore, but I was still nervous around him. Anytime I stayed too close, my heart raced, my skin warmed, and my thoughts dissolved into an absolute mess.

I felt like a high school girl falling in love all over again, painfully aware of every fleeting touch and stolen glance.

The real reason I didn’t want to sit with him was simple, I knew exactly what kind of man Apollo Reed was. He would never let me have a peaceful dinner without touching me, without doing something that made my body react before my mind could catch up.

The food wasn’t even on the table yet, and his hand was already on my thigh. And fuck, why was he like this? Why did he always have something seductive to say, something that made my legs feel weak and my mind go completely blank?

I very much want to see you writhe.

His words echoed in my head again, wrapping around my thoughts until I couldn’t think straight.

This man was going to be the death of me. I could feel his hand slowly moving higher, my breath growing

shallow.

Aunt Grace, what happened to you?Liana’s voice cut through my spiraling thoughts. Your face is really red. Are you getting sick again?

I snapped out of it instantly and turned to her, my body reacting before my brain did. I swatted Apollo’s hand away under the table without thinking. The moment I realized what I’d done, I froze.

Wait. Did I just push his hand away like he was some kind of nuisance?

I wanted to look at him, to see his reaction, but I stopped myself and focused on Liana instead, forcing a

smile onto my face.

Before I could say anything, Eleanor spoke up, her voice light and far too amused. Of course she’s okay, Liana. Your aunt is fine.

But she’s red,Liana insisted, tilting her head.

Eleanor smirked, her eyes flicking toward me knowingly. Yeah, I see that, she said, clearly enjoying this far too much. People can turn red for lots of other reasons, you know.

I shot her a glare, my face burning even hotter. Eleanor, stop playing around.I hissed, before turning back to Liana. I’m okay. Really. My face just gets red sometimes.

Liana studied me for a second, then nodded seriously. Alright, aunt. As long as you’re okay.

I nodded back, relieved she dropped it, but my heart was still racing. I could still feel Apollo beside me, calm and unbothered, as if nothing had happened at all. And somehow, that made it even worse.

I reached for the glass of water in front of me, lifting it to my lips as if I desperately needed something to ground myself.

My fingers curled around the cool glass while Eleanor turned her attention to Apollo, her expression polite. Mr. Reed, please try the food, she said. I assure you, you’ll like it. It’s all homemade.

I glanced at him over the rim of the glass as I drank, pretending I was more interested in the water than in him, even though my thoughts were a complete mess.

The more I tried not to think about it, the clearer it became in my mind. What happened last night wasn’t a dream. It wasn’t my fever playing tricks on me. Apollo really told me he loved me, and I had heard it clearly.

I wanted to tell myself there had to be another explanation, that maybe he said it because I was sick, because I was vulnerable, because he felt responsible. But the more I thought about it, the more I knew that didn’t fit him at all. Apollo wasn’t the kind of man who said things lightly, and he certainly wasn’t the kind who lied about something like that.

There was no reason for him to say it unless he meant it. And that realization made my chest feel tight in a

way that was both terrifying and warm?

Apollo Reed loved me.

While I was lost in my thoughts, he calmly picked up a fork, cutting into the roast salmon with unhurried movements before bringing it to his mouth. Instantly, everyone’s attention shifted to him. Eleanor, Wyatt, and even the twins leaned forward slightly, watching him as if he were some rare creature being observed

for the first time.

I found myself staring too, holding my breath without realizing it. From what I knew, Apollo barely ate, and when he did, nothing ever seemed to suit his taste. I’d heard Chase complain more than once that even meals prepared by worldclass chefs failed to impress him. Eleanor and Wyatt were amazing cooks, everyone loved their food, but Apollo wasn’t just anyone.

He chewed slowly, his expression unreadable, and the silence around the table grew heavy. When he finally swallowed and looked up, I noticed Wyatt raise an eyebrow slightly. Was it okay?he asked, clearly trying

to sound casual.

Apollo paused for a brief moment, then nodded. It’s delicious,he said simply, before returning his attention to his plate as if nothing unusual had happened.

Eleanor and Wyatt immediately relaxed, exchanging relieved smiles, clearly pleased. I, on the other hand, just sat there looking at him, a small smile tugging at my lips before I could stop it.

I loved seeing him like this, he felt more human. In moments like these, he didn’t look like the untouchable man who ruled everything around him. He looked like someone who could sit at a family table and enjoy a meal.

I kept watching him eat, completely forgetting about my own food, my heart feeling strangely full just from being there with him.

Eleanor chuckled softly, leaning closer to me as she muttered under her breath, You’re so in love, girl.

I nearly choked. I coughed awkwardly, straightening in my seat and forcing myself to look away from Apollo as if I hadn’t been staring at him like a lovesick idiot just seconds ago.

My face felt hot, and I quickly dropped my gaze to my plate, picking up my fork and taking a bite of food I barely tasted. I tried to focus on chewing, on swallowing, on acting normal, anything but Eleanor’s knowing smile burning into the side of my face.

Just as I was starting to calm down, Eleanor spoke again, her tone suddenly casual. Oh, before I forget, Grace, there’s a problem.

I paused midbite and looked up at her, raising an eyebrow. What is it?I asked, already sensing trouble.

She clasped her hands together and nodded thoughtfully. You see, we’re planning to renovate the house starting tomorrow. Right, Wyatt?she added, turning to her husband.

Wyatt blinked, clearly caught off guard, and looked at her like he was hearing this for the first time. I watched Eleanor discreetly pinch his arm under the table, and he immediately cleared his throat.

Oh, right. Yeah. Tomorrow,he said, nodding a little too quickly.

I narrowed my eyes slightly, suspicion creeping in, but Eleanor continued smoothly. Since the renovation will take a while, we can’t stay here. My mom said we can stay with her, so that’s what we’re planning to do.She smiled, then tilted her head at me. But I don’t think you should come with us.

Why not?

Eleanor sighed dramatically. You know how my mom is. She’s nagging, she’s loud, and she will not stop pestering you about getting married. Trust me, it’ll be unbearable.

I nodded slowly, understanding her point. That’s fine with me, I don’t mind. I love your mom. I can stay with her-

)

No,Eleanor interrupted immediately.

I stopped and looked at her, my suspicion growing stronger. She smiled sweetly. I mean, sorry, Grace, but you really can’t. There isn’t much space, and it’ll be uncomfortable for everyone. I hope you understand.

I let out a small sigh and nodded. I do. Don’t worry about me. I’ll just book a hotel and stay there until-That won’t do,Eleanor cut in again, shaking her head firmly.

I stared at her. Then where do you want me to stay?

She didn’t answer right away. Instead, she smiled, turned her head slightly, and winked before shifting her gaze toward Apollo.

My body froze.

No.

No way.

My heart skipped as Eleanor spoke again. “Mr. Reed, would you be kind enough to let Grace stay at your

Mr. Reed, would you be kind enough to let Grace stay at your place until the renovation is over?Eleanor’s voice rang through the room.

Oh. My. God.

I gasped as Eleanor and Wyatt slowly turned toward Apollo, waiting for his response. Even the twins, who clearly didn’t understand what was happening, followed their parentslead, their wide and curious eyes fixed on him, small bodies leaning forward in anticipation.

I stared at Eleanor, my mind refusing to process what she had just said. Before I even realized it, the spoon slipped from my fingers and clattered loudly against the table.

What just happened? Did she really just ask that?

Eleanor had always been a little crazy, but I hadn’t expected this, this was a whole new level of insanity.

I should’ve known she was up to something. The amused glint in her eyes, the way her lips curved into that knowing smile, those were signs. I should have seen it coming. But I couldn’t believe she would actually ask Apollo to let me stay with him. In the same house.

Was she trying to kill me, or did she simply enjoy watching my life spiral out of control? What on earth was she thinking?

Apollo didn’t seem like the kind of man who tolerated inconvenience, let alone another person invading his personal space.

My throat felt tight as I swallowed and slowly turned my head toward Apollo. He had stopped eating entirely. His fork rested loosely in his hand, forgotten, as his gaze settled on me. It wasn’t cold or dismissive. If anything, it was intent, and focused in a way that made my skin prickle.

It felt like he was weighing something carefully.

I inhaled, ready to speak, and make some kind of excuse that might change the direction of the conversation, but before I could get a single word out, there was a knock at the door.

Every head turned at once.

I’ll get it!Liana chirped, already hopping off her chair before anyone could stop her. She ran to the door and pulled it open with her usual enthusiasm.

Standing there was Austin. He paused briefly, his sharp eyes flicking across the room, taking in the tense atmosphere, before finally looking at Apollo. Then he inclined his head slightly, composed and respectful as

ever.

I apologize for interrupting,he said calmly, his voice cutting through the silence. But there is something I need to inform Mr. Reed about.

I stood up when I saw him. For a moment, I had completely forgotten he would be outside. Of course he would be, he was Apollo’s driver, after all. Apollo didn’t drive himself, so Austin had brought him here.

Oh,I said, nodding toward the house. Please, come in.

Austin stepped inside and closed the door behind him. He walked straight toward Apollo with a professional expression and said quietly, Sir, I have something to tell you.

Apollo didn’t look away from me when he replied. His gaze stayed fixed on my face as he said, What is it?

Austin leaned closer and whispered something into his ear. I couldn’t hear the words, but I didn’t miss the way Apollo’s expression changed. His eyes darkened almost instantly, the warmth in them cooling into something darker.

I see,Apollo said calmly.

Austin straightened and stepped back.

I frowned slightly, unease creeping in, and before I could stop myself, I asked, Is something wrong?

Apollo didn’t respond at first. He stood up, rising to his full height, and the sudden movement made the room feel smaller.

It’s nothing,he said, his voice deep and low. He turned to Eleanor and Wyatt. Thank you for the meal. They both nodded, clearly confused, but he didn’t linger long enough for them to respond properly. He turned and began walking toward the door, then paused beside me.

I will be expecting you tomorrow,

>>

Expecting me?I asked instinctively. Oh, at work?

He turned his head slightly, his attention fully on me now. Without a word, he lifted his hand and rested it gently on my head, his fingers warm against my hair as he leaned closer.

I will be expecting you at home tomorrow, Grace.

My breath caught in my throat. My eyes widened, and for a second, I couldn’t move or speak. Behind me, I heard Eleanor gasp softly, the sound sharp in the quiet room.

Before I could say anything, Apollo stepped away and headed for the door. Austin turned to me with a smile. Miss Grace, the incident in the restroom is being kept under wraps for now, but a few people did witness it. It’s only a matter of time before the information starts to circulate. To protect your identity, please continue wearing your wig and glasses for the time being. We can’t risk drawing attention to you or allowing anyone to discover who you are yet.

He spoke, but I didn’t respond. I barely registered his words at all.

When it became clear I wasn’t going to answer, he gave a polite nod and followed after Apollo. The door closed behind them with a soft click.

I stood there, staring at the door, my heart pounding in my chest.

Did Apollo just say that? Did he really agree so easily?

I bit my lips.

Apollo kept doing things I didn’t expect, things he shouldn’t do, things that broke every rule he lived by, and every time, it was for me.

I felt a hand rest gently on my shoulder. Eleanor stepped closer and sighed. I can’t believe your boss agreed that easily, she said. I honestly thought he would hesitate.

When I didn’t respond, she glanced at me and sighed again, her voice softer. You’re probably angry at me, right? I know what I did was too much. I was just trying to help. You don’t have to go if you don’t want to. You can just-

I want to,I interrupted.

She froze and looked at me. What?”

I turned to face her fully, my heart still racing but my thoughts clear. I want to go, Eleanor,I said firmly.

I want to live with him. I don’t care, even if just for a day, I want to stay with him.

She stared at me like she couldn’t believe the words had come out of my mouth. Maybe I couldn’t either, but I didn’t take them back. I wasn’t scared anymore.

If Apollo could step out of his cage and chase what he felt, then so could I.
