Please Me Daddy (Gracie) novel Chapter 238

onus chapter

Grace

I stood in front of the mirror and looked at my reflection quietly, tilting my head slightly as my gaze traveled over the dress Eleanor had eventually forced me to wear.

The gown was an elegant deep red that hugged my body perfectly, the offshoulder design revealing my collarbones while delicate floral sleeve details wrapped softly around my arms, making the entire dress look both graceful and dramatic at the same time. The bodice was fitted tightly around my waist before flowing down into a smooth satin skirt that brushed against the floor with every movement, and the high slit at the front revealed one of my legs whenever I shifted my weight, giving the entire outfit a far more glamorous look than anything I would normally wear for something as simple as a family gathering.

My hair had been curled into soft waves that cascaded all the way down to my waist, and Eleanor had insisted on doing my makeup herself, keeping it natural but refined enough to highlight my features.

I stared at my reflection for a moment longer before sighing softly.

Eleanor might have gone a little overboard with this dress. After all, tonight was just a family celebration. Everyone was downstairs laughing and preparing to eat together, and normally I would have taken this dress off without hesitation and replaced it with something simpler and more comfortable.

My hand even lifted toward the zipper on my back for a moment, but I stopped myself. Because I knew exactly what Apollo’s reaction would be the moment he saw me wearing something like this.

A small smile slowly appeared on my lips.

He wouldn’t be able to keep his hands to himself.

The thought alone made my cheeks warm slightly, and instead of changing the dress like I originally planned, I lowered my hand and simply smoothed the fabric of the skirt instead.

Fine,I muttered quietly to my reflection. I’ll keep it.

After taking one last look at myself in the mirror, I turned to leave the room, but just as I reached the door, my phone suddenly dinged on the vanity table behind me.

I paused and walked back, picking it up to check the notification.

It was a message.

My brows knitted slightly when I saw the name attached to it.

Charles.

For a moment I simply stared at the screen before opening the message.

[Hello, this is Charles. I’m sorry to bother you but after thinking about this all these years, I think it is only appropriate for me to text you even though you deserve better, but you helped me when I was in need and there was nobody to help me. I know it was you that helped me in prison and made my father face his crime instead of him pinning everything on me a few years ago. Thank you so much, Grace. I know I have wronged you, and I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me. I will also try to become a better person. I am currently a teacher, doing what I have always wanted, and I have a husband with a small boy we adopted. I’m really happy. You’re an amazing person, and I also hope you’re happy with your family and friends. Goodbye, Grace. In my next life I will make it up to you.]

When I finished reading, I remained still for a moment, my expression blank as the words settled in my mind.

A few years ago, after I woke up from the gunshot wound that nearly ended my life, everything about the way I looked at the world had changed. Facing death had made me realize just how fragile life truly was, how easily everything could disappear in a single moment.

That was the reason I chose to forgive Charles.

Unlike many others who had hurt me in the past, Charles had never truly been cruel or malicious. His biggest fault had always been his inability to stand up for himself and accept who he really was. He had been trapped by fear and expectations for so long that he lost himself completely.

So I asked Apollo to help him.

At the time, I had been a little worried about how Apollo would react. After all, what man would willingly help his partner’s former fiancé?

But Apollo had simply listened to me quietly, his expression calm and unreadable. And less than an hour after I asked, Charles was released, while his father, the man who had tried to pin all his crimes on his own son, was arrested.

I had never asked Apollo how he did it, and he never explained, but somehow, things had changed after that.

I had never heard from him since the day everything ended between us, and to be honest, I had never expected to hear from him again. Seeing his name appear on my phone today had been surprising, but reading his message carefully now, I realized something that made my heart feel strangely light.

He was finally living the life he truly wanted.

For years he had been trapped in expectations that were never his own, trying to force himself into a life that didn’t belong to him, and in the end it had hurt both of us. But now, hearing that he had become a teacher, that he had a husband and even a child they adopted together, I could tell from the way he wrote that he was genuinely happy.

And that was enough for me.

A soft smile appeared on my lips as I typed a short reply.

[Live a fulfilled life, Charles.]

I sent it.

Then, without hesitation, I deleted his number and blocked the contact completely.
