Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 108
Chapter 108
ye
Nicolai and I stand together, just enjoying the quiet for a moment. The gardens below are settling into evening stillness, the last birds moving through the trees. It’s peaceful and it helps calm my inner turmoil.
Then Nicolai speaks. “Why are you asking me about Tatiana, Skye?”
“Because I want to understand.” It’s the truth, if only part of it.
“Do you?” He turns to face me fully, and there’s something direct in his gaze that makes it impossible to look away. “Or is it that you needed to hear the truth from me directly before you could trust it?”
“Both,” I admit.
This man reads me so well. And he has a way of cutting right to the heart of what I need, what I’m feeling, whether I want to admit it or not. But that’s a good thing, I think. If we’re to move forward, we can’t have lies and half-truths between us the way Jaxon and I did.
“Then I’ll give you the full truth.” He takes a step closer. “I know you’re still healing from Vale. I know you have every reason not to trust men or their words. I know what it cost you to believe someone who didn’t deserve it, and I know that makes every step forward feel dangerous.”
He pauses to let that sink in before continuing.
“There’s no one else. There hasn’t been anyone since you came into my life. Even before that. I’m not a saint, Skye, far from it. I’ve been with women, but only sate a need, nothing more. Because none of them were you and that meant none of them were good enough.” I suck in a sharp breath at his admission. “And I’m telling you that not to pressure you or push you toward anything you’re not ready for. I meant it when I told you what happened between us the other night, never need happen again if you don’t want it to. I’m telling you because I want you to trust me. And trust requires honesty.”
“Nicolai-“I whisper his name, my hands curling in the fabric of his shirt like I’m afraid he’ll slip away if I let go. “You don’t have to say anything. I just needed you to know.” He starts to step back, to give me the space he always gives me.
But I don’t let go. I refuse to let go. He goes still, just staring down at me. He could pull away if he really wanted to but he doesn’t, letting me have control.
“I want to stay,” I say. “Not just until the baby is born. I want…” I take a breath. Let myself say it. “I want to see where this goes. Between us.”
Nicolai’s expression transforms. The careful restraint he always carries, the controlled warmth-it cracks open. Just for a moment. Just enough to show me what’s underneath.
“Are you sure?” He checks in.
“Terrified,” I admit. “But sure.”
He pulls me closer carefully, more carefully than a man his size should be capable of. One hand around my waist, mindful of my belly. The other cupping my face so gently I feel something behind my eyes sting.
“I’m going to kiss you now,” he says quietly. “If you don’t want that, tell me to stop.”
My heart is hammering. “Don’t stop.”

“Will always be Benji’s father. And we’ll handle that as it comes.” His voice is steady. “I’m not asking you to have everything figured out, Skye. I’m asking if you want to figure it out with me.”
I look at this man. Dangerous and gentle. Ruthless and kind. The kind of Alpha who handles problems permanently and also knows exactly how I take my tea.
Who drove through the night when I was in danger. Who gave me a key to my own space and told me the doors lock from the inside. Who is looking at me right now like I’m the least complicated thing in his world.
“Yes,” I say.
“Yes?” He looks bewildered, like he can’t believe he heard me right.
“Yes. I want to figure it out with you.” I confirm. 1
Nicolai smiles. Not the small, controlled almost-smile I’ve seen before. A real one.
And it’s devastating in the best possible way.
