Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Jaxon

I can’t sleep.

The name keeps circling through my mind like a predator stalking prey. Nicolai Woolf. The Woolf family doesn’t make casual trips through pack territories. They don’t ask for safe passage unless they have a specific destination in mind.

And that destination is somewhere near my pack.

I sit at my desk, staring at territorial maps spread across the mahogany surface. The eastern border where Graham mentioned the Woolf family requested passage runs along a stretch of neutral territory- land that could theoretically provide access to the Vale pack without actually crossing our boundaries.

Smart. Calculated. Exactly what I’d expect from someone with the Woolf family’s reputation.

But why?

My wolf paces restlessly beneath my skin, agitated in a way I don’t understand. There’s no territorial threat here. The Woolfs have never shown interest in expansion this far south. They have more power in their northern holdings than most Alphas accumulate in a lifetime.

So what are they doing here?

And why did Skye go so still when the name was mentioned?

I replay the dinner in my mind. The moment Graham said “Nicolai Woolf,” Skye’s scent shifted-just barely, just enough for my Alpha senses to catch it. Not fear, exactly. Something else. Recognition, maybe. Or anticipation.

She admitted they’d met before. Diplomatic functions, she said. Our fathers had dealings.

But the way she said it-careful, measured, revealing only what she had to-tells me there’s more to the

story.

My office door opens without knocking. Noah walks in, takes one look at the maps, and sighs.

“It’s two in the morning, Jax.”

“I’m aware.”

“Then what are you doing?” He crosses to the desk, studying the maps. “Are those border routes?”

“The Woolf family requested safe passage through Graham’s territory. Routes that run along our eastern

border.”

Noah’s expression doesn’t change. “And?”

“And I want to know why.”

“Maybe they have business in the region. The Woolfs have connections everywhere.” Noah picks up one of the maps, examines it, sets it back down. “This doesn’t look like strategic planning. This looks like

obsession.”

“I’m being thorough.”

“You’re being paranoid.” Noah leans against the desk, arms crossed. “What’s really going on?”

I shouldn’t tell him. It sounds insane even in my own head. But Noah’s been my Beta since we were

eighteen, my closest friend even longer. If I can’t trust him, I can’t trust anyone. 1

“Skye knows him,” I say finally. “Nicolai Woolf. She admitted they’d met before, but the way she said it…” I

shake my head. “There’s something she’s not telling me.”

“So ask her.”

“I did. At dinner. She deflected.”

Noah is quiet for a long moment. “Let me make sure I understand. You’re sitting here at two in the morning, analyzing maps, because your wife had a reaction to hearing an old acquaintance’s name?”

“It’s not just that-”

“What is it then?” Noah’s voice hardens. “Because from where I’m standing, you’ve ignored Skye for three years, let another woman move into your house, left her to die in a storm, and now you’re upset that she might have connections you don’t control?”

The accusation hits like a physical blow. “That’s not what this is about.”

“Isn’t it?” Noah pushes off the desk. “You don’t want her, Jax. You’ve made that crystal clear. But you also don’t want anyone else to have her. Even if ‘anyone else’ is just a friend from her past.”

“He’s not just a friend.” The words come out sharper than I intend. “The Woolf family doesn’t do friendship. Everything they do is calculated. Strategic.”

“Then maybe Skye is smarter than you’ve given her credit for.” Noah heads for the door, then pauses. Here’s a thought-instead of stalking your wife and analyzing maps like a paranoid dictator, try actually talking to her. Like she’s a person whose opinions matter.” 1

He leaves before I can respond.

I sit alone in the silence, my wolf still prowling restlessly.

Noah’s wrong. This isn’t about control or possession. It’s about protecting the pack. About

understanding potential threats before they become actual problems.

The Woolf family is dangerous. Everyone knows that. And if Skye has ties to them that I don’t know about

The thought stops me cold.
