Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 52

Chapter 52

Skye

I wake up to fluorescent lights and the antiseptic smell of Dr. Lukas’s office.

The pack doctor is leaning over me, her expression concerned. I can hear Jaxon’s voice in the hallway- demanding, frustrated, barely controlled.

“What happened? Is she all right? I want answers now-”

Some distant part of me registers that this is not good. That all my careful plans are about to be destroyed. But a bigger part of me can’t let go of the hope that my secret is still mine. And I need to get out of here before it’s discovered.

I try to sit up. Try to swing my legs off the examination table before Dr. Lukas can-

“Luna, please.” Her hand is gentle but firm on my shoulder. “You collapsed. You need to let me make sure you’re all right.”

“I’m fine.” My voice is weak even to my own ears. “Just overheated. The training session was-”

“Was too much for someone in your condition,” Dr. Lukas finishes quietly.

My blood turns to ice.

“I don’t know what you mean-” Still desperately trying to fight a battle I’ve already lost.

“Skye.” Dr. Lukas’s voice is kind but unyielding. “I’m a doctor. I know the signs.” She’s checking my vitals, her movements practiced and efficient, like my whole world isn’t crashing around me. “Your blood pressure is elevated. You’re pale, dehydrated. And you haven’t been in for a checkup in over three

months.”

“I’ve been busy-”

“When was your last menstrual cycle?”

The question hangs in the air between us.

I could lie. But Dr. Lukas will know. Medical records, physical examination-the truth will come out

anyway.

“I…” I can’t finish the sentence.

Dr. Lukas’s expression shifts to understanding. Not surprise. Just confirmation that she already knows.

“You’re pregnant,” she says softly. It’s not a question. “I checked the pup’s heartbeat while you were

unconscious.”

I close my eyes. “Yes.” I’m not sure if I’m talking to her or speaking aloud my relief that my baby is okay.

“How far along? The heartbeat was easy to find so I’m guessing you’re in your second trimester already.”

“Fourteen weeks. Almost fifteen.”

Silence. Then: “Does the Alpha know?”

“No.”

“Skye-”

“Please.” I open my eyes, meeting her gaze desperately. “Please don’t tell him. Not yet. I need to-”

The door opens.

trimester? Until she gives birth without telling me? With all due respect, doctor, get out!”

To her credit, Dr. Lukas doesn’t move. She stands her ground resolutely, looking to me, her patient, prepared to honor my wishes. I give her a small nod which she returns, acknowledging our mutual understanding. And only then does she leave the room.

“That’s not fair-“I start to defend myself against his previous comments but Jaxon cuts me off.

“Fair?” He laughs, but there’s no humor in it. “You want to talk about fair? You’ve been lying to me for months, Skye. Hiding my child. Making plans-” He cuts himself off, but I know what he was going to say.

Making plans to leave.

He knows. Or at least he suspects.

And now that the pregnancy is out, everything is about to get so much worse.
