Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Jaxon

Fourteen fucking weeks!

She’s been carrying my child for fourteen weeks and didn’t tell me.

The betrayal I’m feeling right now is overwhelming. It sits in my chest like a physical weight, crushing my lungs, making it hard to breathe.

But underneath it, my wolf is howling with triumph and possessive need.

Mine. Our mate. Our child. Ours.

I watch Skye walk away from Dr. Lukas’s office, her spine straight, her head high. Every inch the perfect Luna, composed and untouchable.

Like she didn’t just shatter my entire world.

I catch up to her halfway across the grounds.

“Skye. Wait.”

She doesn’t slow down. “I have nothing more to say to you, Jaxon.”

“Well, I have plenty to say to you.” I grab her arm-not roughly, but firmly enough to stop her. “How long were you planning to hide this?”

She turns to face me, and her expression is so cold it makes my wolf whimper. “I wasn’t hiding it. I was waiting for the right time.”

“The right time?” My voice rises despite my attempt to stay calm. “Fourteen weeks, Skye! You’ve been pregnant for fourteen weeks and you never thought to mention it?”

Goddess! I sound like a broken record, even to my own ears. But I can’t get over the fact she hid it so long. Or maybe it’s the fact I never noticed I can’t get over.

“The right time that never came,” she says evenly, “because you were too busy with Cassandra and Liam

to notice your own mate.”

The accusation hits like a slap.

“That’s not-”

“Isn’t it?” She pulls her arm free from my grip. “When exactly should I have told you, Jaxon? During one of our many intimate conversations? Over the breakfast table where you sat with my sister and the son you share with her? In our bed that you’ve barely slept in for months?”

I open my mouth to respond, but pack members are starting to notice our confrontation. Heads turning. Whispers spreading.

“We’re not doing this here,” I say through gritted teeth.

“Then we’re not doing it at all.” She turns and continues toward the Alpha house.

I follow, because what else can I do? Too many people are watching to throw her over my shoulder and run off with her the way I’d like to right now.

And of course, by the time we reach the house, the news has already spread. Instead of the conversation I’m dying to finish with my wife, I’m forced to stop as every pack member I pass in the hallways offers their congratulations with carefully neutral expressions. Like they can’t tell if this is happy news or not

It’s the best fucking news of my life! But based on the way my Luna can’t get away from me fast enough, I can understand why they’re not sure.

“Congratulations, Alpha. The pack is blessed

“Such wonderful news about the Luna’s pregnancy

“Another heir. The pack will be strengthened

I nod and smile and accept their well-wishes while fury simmers beneath my skin.

“She should have told me-”

“Why would she do that, Jaxon?” Noah moves into the room, closing the door behind him “So you could what? Be happy about it? Support her? You’ve given her zero reason to trust you with anything, let alone

something this important

“She’s my mate. She’s carrying my child-

“She was planning to leave you, wasn’t she?” Noah’s voice is flat “That’s what this is really about, isn’t it? You’re not hurt that she didn’t tell you. You’re panicking because now you know she was going to take your baby and run.”

The accuracy of the observation makes me want to put my fist through the wall.

“She can’t leave now,” I say “Not with my child.”

“You can’t stop her, Jax. Pack law doesn’t allow forced detainment of a pregnant mate, even if she’s carrying the Alpha’s heir Noah leans against the desk “You want her to stay? Give her a reason that isn’t threats or control or legal maneuvering. Actually fix what you broke.”

“I’m trying-

“Are you?” Noah’s expression is hard. “Or are you just going through the motions because you’re afraid

of losing?”

He leaves before I can answer. But the truth is, he’s right.

I have to find a way to fix this before I lose everything.
