Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Jaxon
I’m still in my office that evening, contemplating my life choices, when there’s a knock on the door.
Cassandra.
She’s dressed simply-jeans and a sweater-clearly in the middle of packing for her move to the guest
house. But her expression is perfectly sympathetic as she steps inside.
“I heard about Skye’s pregnancy,” she says softly. “Congratulations, Jaxon. That’s wonderful news.”
Her tone is warm. Supportive. Everything it should be.
But there’s something in her eyes-a calculation, a reassessment-that makes me keep my guard up.
“Thank you,” I say carefully.
“This must be such a relief.” She settles into the chair across from my desk uninvited. “Now Liam will have a sibling. A real family.”
The way she emphasizes real family-like she’s still part of it, like this pregnancy somehow validates her place here-makes my wolf snarl.
“Cassandra, we’ve talked about this-”
“I know, I know. The guest house.” She waves a hand dismissively. “I’m moving tomorrow, like you asked. But surely now that Skye is pregnant, she’ll need help. I could-”
“No.”
“I’m just offering-”
“I said no.” I stand, needing the physical advantage. “I’ll take care of Skye. She doesn’t need your help. And even if she did, you’re the last person she’d accept it from.”
Cassandra looks genuinely hurt. “I’m just trying to be supportive. We’re going to be raising our children. together-”
“We’re not raising anything together. Liam is my son, and I’ll be his father. But you and I?” I move toward the door, opening it in clear dismissal. “We’re not family, Cassandra. We never were.”
She stands slowly, her expression shifting to something harder. “You didn’t used to be this cold.” 1
“I used to be a lot of things.”
The truth of those words are like a punch to the gut. Because the way I used to be got me into this mess.
And I’m not sure I know how to change.
Cassandra leaves without another word, but I catch the flash of something in her eyes as she passes.

Not hurt. Not anger.
Cunning.
She isn’t upset about the pregnancy. She’s just working out how it might fit into her plans. Trying to figure out how to use it to her advantage.
How did I not see this from the start? Skye did, but I wouldn’t listen. And now, it seems she has nothing
left to say.
Now that I’m finally alone, it all starts to sink in
I’m going to be a father.
Again.
But this time with my true mate. Not a one-night mistake from the past This should feel different. Should feel right.
My wolf is ecstatic-pacing, protective, demanding I go to Skye, claim her, protect our child Every instinct I have is screaming at me to find her, hold her, make sure she and the baby are safe.
But I’m stuck on one thought
She was going to leave.
Of course she hasn’t admitted as much, but I know its true She’s been planning to leave me, and she was going to take my child. The pregnancy doesn’t fix things in her mind. If anything, it made them
worse.
Because now she has to escape not just a bad marriage, but a mate who will use their child to keep her
trapped.
The realization is like ice water.
Because, fuck me! I’ve become exactly what I accused her of being-manipulative, dishonest, willing to
do whatever it takes to get what I want.
I need to talk to her. Really talk. Not fight, not accuse, but actually communicate.
Figure out what she needs. What the baby needs. What our future looks like.
I head upstairs to our bedroom, rehearsing what I’ll say.
The room is dark when I enter I assume she’s asleep-it’s late, and she must be exhausted after the collapse and the confrontation and everything.
“Skye” I say quietly
No response
hove closer to the bed letting my eyes adjust to the darkness
And realize it’s empty.

The covers are pulled back like someone got up. Her phone is on the nightstand. But Skye isn’t here
I check the bathroom-empty. The closet-empty.
Panic starts to claw at my chest.
I move through the house quickly. Her office is dark. The library is vacant. The sitting rooms, the kitchen, everywhere she usually goes-empty
I find a servant in the hallway. “Have you seen the Luna?”
“Not since dinner, Alpha. Is something wrong?”
I don’t answer. Just head outside
Her car is still in the driveway So she didn’t leave At least not in a vehicle.
But she’s not in the house
Where would she go? Who would she run to?
And then I remember.
Nicolai gave her his number. She doesn’t know I overheard them but I did. He told her to call if she needed anything
Day or night. I’ll come
My wolf roars with rage and fear.
What if she’s calling in that favor right now? What if she’s already made arrangements to leave, and I’m standing here like an idiot while she-
No
I won’t let that happen.
I pull out my phone and dial Noah
“I need you to help me find Skye,” I say when he answers “Now.”
