Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Jaxon
I’m not sure why I’m surprised when the news reaches me that Nicolai Woolf is still in the area.
Even if Skye is telling the truth, that she feels nothing more than friendship for the Alpha, it clearly isn’t mutual. Anyone with eyes can tell he’s lusting after my wife.
The jealousy that hits me is consuming. I find myself watching Skye constantly. Looking for signs that
she’s in contact with him.
Is she texting him? Calling him? Making plans?
I promised not to monitor her. Promised to give her space and trust. But the temptation is overwhelming.
I catch myself checking to see if she’s on her phone every chance I get. Tracking who she talks to and for how long. Noting when she steps away to take calls.
It’s exactly what I promised not to do but I can’t seem to stop.
Skye may not have noticed yet, but my Beta certainly has. He corners me in my office for the sole purpose of calling me out on my shit.
“You’re doing it again.”
I look up from the reports I’m not actually reading. “Doing what?”
“Don’t play dumb with me, Jaxon. You’re hovering. Watching her.” Noah plops himself right on mt desk where I can’t ignore him. “I’ve seen you checking to see if she’s on her phone, tracking who she talks to at pack functions. You promised her space. And if I’ve noticed, it’s only a matter of time until she does.”
“Woolf is nearby-”
“And?” Noah’s expression is disgusted. “She’s allowed to have friends. You don’t own her.”
“I’m her mate-”
“You’re her husband. And right now, you’re barely even that. You haven’t earned the right to go all possessive Alpha mate on her yet.” Noah unhelpfully reminds me. “You’re sabotaging yourself, Jax. She gave you a chance. A real chance. And you’re wasting it by being exactly the controlling bastard she’s
trying to escape.”
I want to argue, to defend myself. But I can’t.
Because Noah is right.
“I don’t know how to stop,” I admit. “Seeing him nearby, knowing she’s in contact with him… it makes me crazy.”
“Then figure it out. Fast.” Noah leans forward. “Because at the summit, they’re both going to be there.

Under the same roof And if you can’t control your jealousy, you’re going to lose her for good.”
The thought makes my chest tight with panic.
We sit in silence for a moment. Then Noah speaks again, his tone shifting.
She’s been coming to the main house more”
Who”
Cassandra. Even though she’s supposed to stay in the guest house.” Noah’s voice is hard. Tve seen her find excuses to be around. Always when Skye is nearby.”
1 talk to her-
She’s a snake Jax The vehemence in Noah’s tone makes me look up sharply.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean she’s manipulative Dangerous. Noah’s expression is closed off, guarded in a way I’ve rarely
seen “And I would never accept her as
He trails off
“As what?” press
“Skye-” I start.
“She’s Liam’s mother,” Skye says calmly, her voice carrying to everyone in the room. “And Liam is your son, your heir. If having them both here makes you happy, then they should stay.”
The gracious offer sounds generous. Magnanimous. The perfect Luna putting a child’s needs above her own comfort. But I see the truth in her eyes.
She doesn’t care.
Doesn’t care if Cassandra stays or goes. Doesn’t care that this is inappropriate or that it makes me look weak. Doesn’t care about fighting for my attention anymore.
She’s stopped fighting entirely. And somehow, that’s worse than jealousy would have been. Worse than anger or hurt or any emotional response.
Because it means she’s already checked out, already given up.
And I’m just going through the motions of a courtship that was doomed before it started.
Cassandra settles into a chair, Liam climbing into her lap, and the dinner continues. But I can’t focus on the negotiations or the political maneuvering. All I can think about is Skye’s calm, indifferent expression.
And the terrible certainty that I’ve already lost her.
I just don’t know it yet.
