Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 80
Chapter 80
Skye
I stand in the doorway of my childhood bedroom in my father’s pack house, one suitcase at my feet, and finally allow myself to breathe.
I’m free. Really, truly free from Ironwood Pack territory. Not that the pack was ever truly the problem. I loved the pack, it’s just their Alpha I was desperate to get away from.
The council granted the divorce a week ago. The formal announcement was made at the pack gathering three days later-Jaxon standing before hundreds of pack members, voice steady but dead inside, declaring our mate bond dissolved.
I wasn’t there. Couldn’t be there.
My father came to collect me the morning after the announcement, Diana at his side. They packed my things while Jaxon stayed locked in his office. We didn’t say goodbye. There was nothing left to say.
The custody arrangements are still being negotiated by our lawyers-Gianna is working out the details with Jaxon’s legal counsel. But the basics were established: visitation rights during the pregnancy so he can feel involved and bond with our growing baby, shared custody after the birth, neither of us leaving pack territories without notification.
I can live at Greenwood River Pack while we finalize everything. As long as I’m accessible for Jaxon to be involved in the pregnancy, the council doesn’t care where I am.
So here I am. In the room I grew up in, my sanctuary until the day I mated Jaxon, surrounded by memories of a simpler time. And for the first time in three years, I can breathe without feeling like I’m drowning.
“Skye?” Diana’s voice carries from downstairs. “Do you need help unpacking?”
“I’m okay,” I call back, but she appears in the doorway anyway.
She looks at me standing there, probably seeing the overwhelm on my face, and her expression softens.
“Come on,” she says gently. “Let’s get you settled.”
The guest suite my father prepared for me is on the second floor of the pack house. It’s not fancy-just a bedroom, small sitting area, and private bathroom-but it’s mine. No Jaxon. No Cassandra. No pack members watching my every move with pity or judgment.
Just… peace.
Diana helps me unpack, folding clothes into drawers while I hang dresses in the closet. We work in comfortable silence, the kind I’m surprised to find we can share given the tension between us since she married my father. But I can’t deny the support she’s given me recently. 1
“I bought a few things for the baby,” Diana says, pulling out a bag I hadn’t noticed. “Just basics. I hope

that’s okay.”
Inside are soft blankets, tiny onesies in neutral colors, a small stuffed wolf.
“Diana…” My voice catches.
“You don’t have to do everything alone,” she says firmly. “Let me help. Let us help.”
I nod, not trusting myself to speak. Together, we set up the small bassinet my father ordered-white wood with soft bedding. It stands in the corner of the room, waiting. Waiting for a baby who will grow up with divorced parents. Who will split time between two packs. Who will never know what it’s like to have both parents under one roof.
The thought makes my chest tight.
“Hey.” Diana’s hand on my shoulder pulls me back. “You’re doing the right thing. I know it doesn’t feel like it right now, but you are.”
Diana puts me to work helping her with basic Luna duties. Nothing big, just reviewing supply requests from pack members. Mediating minor disputes between neighbors. Organizing the upcoming full moon celebration. She must know I need the distraction.
It feels good to actually be useful. To contribute without the weight of expectation and failure hanging over every decision. At Ironwood, I was always performing. Always trying to prove I was enough, knowing I’d never succeed. Here, I’m just… helping.
And it’s enough.
