Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 79
Chapter 79
Jaxon
I return to the Alpha house-now just my house, not ours.
The realization hits me as I walk through the front door. This place that should have been our home, our sanctuary, the place we raised our child together, has never felt less like either of those things.
Skye has moved her essentials to a guest room on the opposite side of the house. As far from our-my- bedroom as possible while still remaining under the same roof. The room feels empty without her. But I can’t bring myself to move, not when her scent is still so strong here.
I go about my duties in a fog. But I can’t shut out the rumors flying around me if I tried. The whole pack is buzzing with news of the divorce. The worst moment of my life reduced to nothing more than fodder for
their gossip.
I hear whispers as I walk through the grounds. See the way pack members look at me-some with sympathy, many with what looks like relief. Relief for Skye.
Sure, some still support me. Traditional wolves who think Skye should have stayed, who believe the mate bond is sacred regardless of circumstances. But I don’t want their misguided support. I just want my wife back.
Instead, I’m left alone with the knowledge that I destroyed the best thing that ever happened to me. Through my own pride. My own stupidity. My own inability to see what was right in front of me.
Until it was too late.
I find solace from the constant whispers in my office. Which is where Noah finally tracks me down. I
knew he wouldn’t stay away for long.
I haven’t moved in hours. Just sitting here, staring at nothing, replaying every mistake.
“The council wants you to formally announce the divorce at the next pack gathering,” Noah says blandly,
like he’s discussing the weather. “It’s expected, Jax.”
I nod numbly.
“There’s something else.” Noah’s tone is careful.
“What?” Not that anything else truly matters to me right now.
“Cassandra didn’t leave as quietly as we’d hoped. She still has contacts here and is spreading rumors through the pack.”
Of course she is. I don’t really care but I ask the appropriate question anyway.
“What kind of rumors?”
“She’s claiming you threw her out because you’re trying to cover up the truth about Liam.” Noah’s

expression is disgusted. “Telling anyone who’ll listen that you’re claiming Liam might not be your son. That you’re using it as an excuse to get rid of her now that Skye’s pregnant with your ‘real’ heir.”
My hands curl into fists on the desk. Hands I’d like to use to strangle Cassandra right now.
“She’s trying to cause chaos,” Noah continues. “To hurt both you and Skye on her way out. Make it look like you’re an asshole who abandoned his child.”
“We’ll need to address this publicly,” I say flatly, knowing it’s my duty but unable to muster the indignation it deserves.
I sit in the dark office, the weight of everything pressing down on me, and for the first time since this all began, I let myself feel it. The loss. The regret. The crushing knowledge that I had everything I ever needed and threw it away.

The tears come fast and furious and I let them fall. I’ve never cried for anyone, anything. But I do now, for
her.
Because I feel like a part of me has died.
And there’s no one to blame but myself.
