Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 84

Chapter 84

Skye

Diana and I are sitting at the kitchen table, sorting through some pack supply requests, when I notice some things I’ve missed before. Probably because I didn’t want to notice, if I’m being honest.

But now that we’re sharing space, there is no avoiding the intimacy that exists between my aunt and my father. I can’t help but notice small things like the way Diana’s hand automatically finds my father’s when he passes by the table. How natural it is, like it’s completely unconscious.

Her hand just… reaches for his, and his is already there waiting. They don’t even look at each other. Just this brief touch as he moves past, his fingers squeezing hers gently before he continues to his office.

But the smile Diana gets-soft and private-tells me everything about what that touch means.

I watch them more closely over the next few days. They share small touches everywhere. His hand on her lower back when they walk together. Her fingers straightening his collar before pack meetings. The way he brings her coffee in the morning, exactly how she likes it, without her asking. Inside jokes I don’t understand. Comfortable silences that speak of deep understanding.

It’s intimate. Devoted. The kind of partnership I always imagined fated mates would share. Two people made for each other, so completely in tune that words aren’t necessary. But my mother, my father’s fated mate, died. So that can’t be right. Maybe they’re just that in love.

Either way, it’s everything my marriage to Jaxon never was. I find myself both happy for them and deeply sad for what I never had.

One afternoon, I’m helping Diana arrange flowers in the main hall-a task she does weekly for the pack house with so much care, you can tell it brings her joy. She’s humming softly while trimming stems, placing them in vases with practiced ease.

I’m lost in thought, watching her hands work, when the question slips out before I can stop it.

“How long have you been in love with my father?”

Diana’s hands still. The scissors freeze mid-cut. There’s a long pause, like she knows her next words will change something fundamental and she wants to be sure she gets them right.

Finally, she answers. “Since about six months after he married your mother.”

The honesty is startling and I can’t contain the choked breath that slips free. That long? That’s before I was born. The implications of that are unfathomable.

I set down the flowers I was holding. “But you never…?” My words trail off, unable to voice the possibility that my father was unfaithful to my mother.

“Never acted on it.” Diana resumes cutting, but her movements are careful now. Measured. “Your mother was my sister. My best friend. And Marco was devoted to her, even if their mate bond wasn’t the deepest We waited. For years.” 1

“Years,” I repeat quietly.

Diana nods. “I was already mated to Thomas when I realized what Marco and I were. Fated mates who couldn’t be together because we’d both made other commitments, too young and impatient to wait for

fate to intervene.”

She sets down the scissors and looks at me directly.

“We discovered it by accident. Your mother was a free spirit, no one could ever pin her down. She met your father while traveling and she never looked back, never brought him home. I finally met him when I came to help your mother during her pregnancy with you.

I owe her my freedom.
