Julia knew she couldn’t match Victoria’s sharp tongue, so she swallowed her urge to argue and hurried after her husband, leaving the room.

“Please, she actually thought she could settle scores with me?” Victoria scoffed, popping another grape into her mouth.

Daisy and Hector exchanged a knowing glance and left the room in perfect sync, giving Jackson and Victoria some alone time to bond.

Ollie also took the hint and left.

Victoria couldn’t help but smile at his praise. “Don’t try to copy me unless you’re absolutely sure. I wouldn’t have taken such a gamble without full confidence.”

“My grandpa asked if we should postpone the engagement, but I turned him down,” Jackson said.

Victoria jumped in right away. “I figured as much. I turned it down too.”

They shared a smile. After all, they came out of that accident pretty much unscathed.

Jackson was itching to throw a lavish engagement party with Victoria, to let the whole world know they were together. He wasn’t willing to wait even a single day.

Victoria had been munching on grapes while enjoying the drama, and now she was full and content. She wiped her hands with a tissue and said, “Come here, it’s time for your therapy session.”

“Okay,” Jackson replied, rolling his wheelchair over.

As she worked, Victoria focused on the acupuncture and asked with concern, “So, how are things going on your side? What did your dad and Cassian talk to you about yesterday?”

Jackson replied in a flat tone, “A few projects at the group ran into trouble, and Cassian couldn’t manage to fix them.”

Victoria raised an eyebrow. “This was your handiwork, wasn’t it?”

Jackson didn’t deny it. “Yeah, just a little warning for him.”

Victoria asked again, “Have you found any clues about whether Cassian is actually your biological brother?”

At the mention of this topic, Jackson’s usually calm gaze grew a little darker. He slowly shook his head. “No.”

Victoria couldn’t help but sigh. “If Cassian isn’t really your brother, then your dad must’ve pulled off this scheme flawlessly.”

Jackson’s face turned even colder. ‘It’s been so many years, and digging up the truth now is nearly impossible.

“If I hadn’t ended up in a wheelchair after Sibley’s kidnapping, and if Cassian and Sibley hadn’t started pushing their luck right in front of me, I never would’ve suspected Cassian might not be my real brother–that Donald could’ve switched him

out for his own bastard son.

“Honestly, I’m conflicted. Part of me wishes Cassian weren’t actually my brother, because then all the crap he and Sibley

Jackson broke into a wide smile. “Vickie, what am I supposed to do? I really love being with you. Every time I hear you talk, it just makes me feel so much better.”

Victoria let out a soft laugh, meeting his deep, affectionate gaze. “Then just stay with me. It’s not like I’m stopping you.

“Besides, after the engagement party on Saturday, I’ll officially be your fiancée. Being together is the most natural thing for us. If we weren’t, that would mean there’s something really wrong between us.”

She always spoke her mind, but somehow it always made him feel good.

Victoria heard the man’s entitled tone from outside and couldn’t help but scoff. “Even after you exposed Sibley as his illegitimate daughter, your dad still keeps putting on airs?”

She paused, curiosity flickering in her eyes. “Come to think of it, you really don’t resemble your father at all. Guess you must take after your mom, huh?”

Jackson’s gaze dimmed as he talked about his mom. “She died when I was five, so I barely remember her. Everything I know comes from what people told me. She was a lot more competent than my dad, especially at work.

Victoria blinked, then glanced at Jackson’s face and suddenly got it. “Okay, I guess when it comes to looks, that’s pretty hard to say no to.”

“So when your grandpa wanted to send your brother away just because some fortune–teller said so, did your mom actually agree to that?” Victoria couldn’t picture his mom as the type to just go along with something like that.
