Chapter 156
When the speaker switched on, Annie was caught off guard for a second.

But once she realized what was happening, she thought, ‘Victoria’s a total badass. Instead of swallowing her anger, making sure everyone knows what’s up.
she’s
With that, Annie repeated her words, her voice blasting through the speaker. “Pierre, you idiot! You’re the one acting dumb, and you still have the guts to call me out?
“You can’t even handle a speaker, and you think you can run the show? Quit pretending you know everything about picking sides.”
She pressed on, “Alright, since you wanna talk about taking sides, let me make it clear. Even if Jackson’s disabled, he’d still crush you all.
“His legs might not work, but his mind sure does. As long as he keeps his spirits up and doesn’t care about your opinions, he’ll steamroll anyone who tries to stand in his way.
“Besides, Jackson’s legs might still be fixable. Even if they’re not, he’s got brains, and that’s what matters.
“But someone like you, whose brain’s already broken? There’s no cure for that.”
Annie’s words made Pierre so mad that he looked like he was about to blow a fuse. He was ready to charge over and wring her neck.
“Victoria, how did I do?” Annie asked, preening for praise.
Victoria gave her a thumbs–up. “Sharp and to the point. You nailed it.”
Pierre flicked the speaker back on. “Annie, wait and see. Don’t think because we’re both from the Thornton family, I won’t come after you!”
Annie was about to clap back, but Victoria patted her shoulder and said, “Let me take this.”
Then, cool as ever, she spoke into the speaker, “Pierre, if you’ve got something to say, bring it to me.
“Leave Annie out of it. I’m right here. If you don’t step up, you’re not even a man. Everyone here heard you. Are you gonna admit you’re not?”
With Gerry, Ryan, and Felix gone, Pierre didn’t bother hiding his temper. “Why would I be scared?
“Victoria, because you turned the Binder family upside down and handled Cassian, you really think you’re something?
“In the Thornton family, you don’t get to boss us around.”
Victoria shot back, “Alright, I’ll be waiting. Don’t be all bark and no bite.”
With that, the little scene wrapped up.
In Private Room 4, Sophie couldn’t help but chuckle. “Victoria’s been making headlines lately,
“I heard she’s a real piece of work, and now that I’ve seen her in action, she’s honestly hilarious.
“No wonder my dumb brother can’t stop obsessing over her, even after getting hauled back to the Fairbank family.”

Her bestie joked, “So, your brother crashed Victoria and Jackson’s engagement party last night to try and steal the bride and got kicked out by your dad to deliver takeout as punishment. Wasn’t that unfair?”
“Not really. He needed that wake–up call, so he’d finally realize what he can and can’t do with his current status,” Sophie said, shooting Victoria a glance.
She added, “Looking at things now, there’s no way my idiot brother could marry Victoria.
“Forget she’s engaged to Jackson. Even if she wasn’t, he’d never be able to keep her under control.”
Over in another private room, Nathan narrowed his eyes at Victoria. “Victoria is pretty bold.”
His assistant chimed in, “She’s been the talk of the elite lately. Ever since she got brought back to the Binder family, she’s been fearless, catching Darell’s family totally off guard.
“Even Jackson treats her like she’s a treasure. Last night’s engagement party was grand, and when things went sideways, she sorted it out.”
Nathan had heard some of those rumors, but never really believed them. He thought gossip always got exaggerated.
But seeing Victoria in action today, he finally saw for himself how bold she could be.
No wonder she was stirring things up in Benwig City’s social scene, winning over Jackson and Gerry, and even making Calvin consider handing her the family business.
Nathan’s interest was piqued even more. “If Victoria didn’t have real talent, Jackson wouldn’t have chosen her.
“Even with his legs crippled, his standards are sky–high. Go investigate her.”
Right now, Jackson was surrounded by the Thornton family, all gunning for him.
This was Nathan’s best shot to finally outshine Jackson and ditch that ‘eternal runner–up‘ reputation.
But if Victoria was the real deal, marrying Jackson would make them an unstoppable force.
Nathan had to stay sharp. What he thought was his big break might just blow up in his face.
The assistant nodded. “Understood, Mr. Clark.”
Just then, the auctioneer emerged from backstage and solemnly announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, the highly anticipated auction is now officially underway!”
As soon as he finished speaking, an attendant walked onto the stage, carefully carrying a delicate tray and set it on the auction podium.
On the tray was a dazzling item, the opening lot of the auction. It was a luxurious pendant, designed by a famous master who had since passed away, called “Tears of the Goddess.”
The pendant was shaped like a teardrop, crystal–clear and sparkling, radiating irresistible charm.
Under the bright lights, it sparkled like sunlight dancing on the ocean, its deep blue hue so pure and enchanting that it left everyone spellbound.
‘Pierre, didn’t you say you really like me? I love this pendant. If you can win it for me, I’ll be yours,” the beautiful woman beside Pierre said suddenly.

She tore her gaze away from Victoria and fixed it on the pendant on the auction stage
Pierre figured jewelry like this never went for more than one million, so he replied with confidence, “Deal. You said it yourself. If I win it for you, you’re mine tonight.”
“But…” the woman added.
Pierre frowned. “But what?”
The woman shot a quick glance at the two bodyguards behind Pierre and said, “If you can’t win it, stop bothering me for good.”
Pierre stared at her for a while, finally catching on to her intentions, and let out a smug laugh. “Alright then, looks like you’re destined to be mine tonight.”
The woman didn’t say a word. She nervously clenched her hands and looked back at Victoria, her only lifeline.
With her status, she couldn’t escape Pierre’s harassment.
Her only shot was to hope that the heiress who had challenged Pierre would purposely make things difficult for him and go head–to–head with him in the bidding war.
If she lost, she’d have no choice but to accept her fate.
After the auctioneer finished introducing the Tears of the Goddess, he called out, “The starting bid for this Tears of the Goddess is 70 thousand dollars. Bidding begins!”
“80 thousand dollars!”
“100 thousand dollars!”
“115 thousand dollars!”
“125 thousand dollars!”
“130 thousand dollars!”
Pierre immediately raised his paddle and shouted through the speaker, “300 thousand dollars.”
As soon as Pierre called out his bid, the beautiful woman’s fingers trembled, and she felt her breath catch. Instinctively, she looked back at Victoria.
She thought, “The heiress who had dared to go head–to–head with Pierre still hadn’t joined the bidding.
‘Is this it? Am I really going to lose?
‘Am I really going to have to give in to that bastard Pierre?‘
Seeing Pierre toss out 300 thousand dollars like pocket change, Annie couldn’t help but snark, “What a money–burner!
“He goes through a new woman every month and drops a million or two on each one. He’ll bankrupt the Thornton family at
this rate.”
Victoria smiled, saying nothing.
The auctioneer struck the gavel. “300 thousand dollars, going once.

Pierre couldn’t wait any longer. He grabbed the beautiful woman’s hand, his eyes hungry with anticipation. “Baby, tonight you’re all mine.”
The woman bit her lip and closed her eyes in despair, feeling utterly hopeless.
But before the auctioneer could finish his third call, a swaggering voice cut through the room. “600 thousand dollars.”
