Simon snapped, “Victoria, don’t get too cocky. The company shares haven’t been transferred yet. Who knows, Grandpa might change his mind in the next couple of days.”

“Once I get rid of this poison, you won’t be able to threaten me anymore. I’ll take back everything that’s mine, and you’ll be left with nothing again,” Simon added, then strode off, heading backstage to find Alexis.

Angelica shot Victoria a hateful glare from behind her sunglasses, adjusted her mask, and hurried after Simon.

Victoria scoffed.

She was already plotting how to make Simon pay, once he finally realized she was the poison master, and that the poison in his body was never going to leave him.

Annie turned to watch them walk away, her face twisted in confusion and disdain. “I seriously can’t figure it out, Victoria. How could Simon and his family be so clueless back then?

“Even if they didn’t realize how awesome you were when you first got brought back to the Binder family, you were still their own flesh and blood.

“Shouldn’t they have felt bad for you, seeing you struggle outside, and tried to help you out? Instead, they thought you weren’t as good as Angelica.

“But looking at it now, you’re obviously way more impressive than Angelica.

“If you really had been as useless as they believed, who knows how badly they would’ve ruined your life after bringing you back? Just thinking about it freaks me out.”

Victoria listened to Annie’s rambling complaints and couldn’t help but smile. “There’s no ‘what if” anymore. Now. I’m here to make them regret everything they did to the former me that never got a chance.”

Annie’s eyes lit up again. “Oh my gosh, Victoria, that was badass.”

Victoria burst out laughing. “Seriously, with how you’re always showering people with compliments, whoever dates you is going to get maxed–out emotional support.”

“No way! If I can’t find a guy as awesome as Jackson, I’m not dating anyone,” Annie insisted.

Victoria said, “Looks like you’ve got a thing for Jack. But as far as I know, your mom always kept out of the Thornton family mess and never took a side, right?”

Annie jumped in, “Yeah, even though Mom stayed neutral in all the Thornton family drama, I’ve always admired Jackson, and I’ve had a bit of a crush on him.”

Victoria raised an eyebrow. “Why? Is it because you admire strong people?”

Annie replied, “That’s part of it, but honestly, Jackson is nothing like the rest of the Thornton siblings.

“The others only care about their own interests, even if it means betraying their own brothers and sisters.

“Like last night at the engagement party, when Pierre got Grandpa mad for messing with you and Jackson, Felix didn’t care about Pierre’s situation. He was only worried about keeping Grandpa happy.

“But Jackson’s different. When it comes to the people he cares about, he’s all in. He’d do anything for them.

“Take Sibley for example. You know her, right? She’s an adopted daughter in the Thornton family. Jackson only kept her around because of Cassian.

“Before Jackson’s accident, you had no idea how much I envied Sibley.

“She wasn’t even related to them by blood, but Jackson treated her like his own sister, doting on her and always looking out for her.

“Who could’ve imagined Jackson’s leg would get ruined because of a scheme cooked up by his own brother and Sibley? They had it all and didn’t appreciate it. Serves them right!

“Oh, by the way, Victoria, why didn’t you have Jackson hang out with you today? Why’d you choose me instead?

“I’m really happy you picked me, but do you think Jackson will get jealous or mad at me if he finds out?”

Victoria replied, “I figured he’d still be busy cleaning up Cassian’s mess today, so I didn’t ask him to come.”

Annie nodded, getting it. “Yeah, who knows what kind of payback those guys gave that backstabbing jerk Cassian after they dragged him off.

“Honestly, if he ends up dead, he had it coming. Jackson was always so good to him, and he still tried to screw Jackson over.”

As they chatted, they walked through the circular hallway and reached the private room Alexis had reserved for Victoria.

The attendant outside checked Victoria’s name and ushered her and Annie inside.

The auction hall was designed in a ring, with the private rooms on the second floor, closest to the auction stage. There were only twelve private rooms up there.

Victoria led Annie into Private Room 1, and they settled in.

Whenever high–value items were up for bidding, all twelve private rooms would be packed.

Today, with Victoria’s arrival, the last room was taken, and the floor was full.

Thanks to the ring–shaped layout, everyone in the private rooms could easily check out what was going on in the other

rooms.

Annie pointed diagonally across to Private Room 7. “Victoria, look! Pierre’s over there.”

Victoria nodded. “Yeah, I see him.”

Besides Pierre, a young woman was sitting next to him, but it was too far away for Victoria to see what she looked like.

“That spendthrift Pierre, who knows what he’s planning to blow money on for his new girlfriend this time,” Annie muttered.

After Annie finished complaining, she pointed to Private Room 5 next to Pierre’s. “And look, Nathan from the Clark family is here, too.

‘Looks like there’s something special up for auction today. I’m getting excited now.”

Nathan was the eldest son of the Clark family’s head and the beloved grandson of Miranda.

Victoria scanned the other private rooms, taking in the crowd. She guessed most of them were here thanks to the buzz Alexis had stirred up. Everyone knew there were rare herbs up for auction today.

Meanwhile, in Private Room 4, Sophie, the heiress of the Fairbank family, glanced at Victoria with a spark of interest. ‘So that’s Victoria, the real heiress of the Binder family.

“She’s the one my dumb brother, who got kicked out and is back to delivering takeout, has a crush on.

“She’s been making headlines lately, even outshining Angelica, the famous genius from our city.”

Sophie’s friend looked over and laughed. “No wonder Simon brought Angelica here earlier and then left. Turns out the last private room was reserved for Victoria, not for Simon.”

Sophie smiled thoughtfully. “Figures. The Binder family probably won’t belong to Simon anymore. It’ll be Victoria’s from

now on.”

Since the auction hadn’t started yet, Pierre was busy flirting with his new girlfriend. He happened to look up and spotted Victoria with Annie tagging along.

He couldn’t help but snarl, “Annie’s such a fool. She used to stay neutral, but after Jackson ended up disabled, she decided to back him.”

Somehow, the speaker in Pierre’s room suddenly switched on, and his voice echoed loud and clear throughout the entire auction hall.

In a split second, everyone in the hall turned to stare.

Pierre’s expression changed instantly when he realized his words were broadcasted and he scrambled to turn off the speaker.

Annie made a face, totally speechless. “Seriously, Pierre calling me dumb? Look who’s talking. He can’t even keep his own mouth shut!”

“Let’s answer Pierre back with this,” Victoria said, giving Annie a quick pat on the shoulder. When Annie looked over, Victoria turned on the speaker in their room.
