Chapter 184
ulia, who had been keeping a close watch nearby, heard the cough and her eyes widened in shock. She quickly spun around o look at Curtis, who was sprawled out on the couch.
His mouth was slightly open, and his chest rose and fell with each cough.
It’s real!‘ Julia thought, her heart pounding. ‘It really was Curtis who coughed!
You’re awake!” Julia’s voice shook. She reached out, her hand trembling as she touched Curtis’s pale face.
Curtis’s brows were drawn together, his lashes quivering as he tried hard to open his eyes.
Simon was just as surprised, his gaze fixed on Curtis. For the first time today, a bit of the gloom lifted from his heart. At least here’s something for our family to be happy about today!
Darell was glad, but he wasn’t exactly overjoyed. After everything that had happened this morning, he was still hurting nside. Even though Curtis had woken up, it didn’t change the mess they were in.
The one who reacted the most to Curtis waking up was Angelica.
she never expected Curtis to actually wake up. ‘So what’s the use of all those meds I pumped into him?
Angelica clenched her teeth, cursing her real father under her breath. ‘He’s still as unreliable as ever!”
The so–called seasoned rapist she’d hired to deal with Victoria was supposed to be a pro, but in the end, he just disappeared without a trace.
What am I supposed to do now?‘ Angelica panicked.
Curtis had already found out she’d hired someone to hurt Victoria. Dread coiling in Angelica’s stomach as she thought of what would happen if he spilled the truth.
Wait, that’s not right!‘ Angelica realized something.
If this had been before, she would’ve been worried sick about her goody–two–shoes act falling apart in front of Julia, Darell,
ind Simon.
Back then, Darell and his family had money and influence.
But now, Darell and his family had gotten kicked out by the Binder family, not a dime of the inheritance left for them. Why should I be scared anymore?‘ Angelica thought.
I don’t need to, Angelica thought to herself.
Besides, all she did was hire someone to hurt Victoria. She could always claim she was just afraid of losing their affection. It was not like she really did any serious harm to the family.
As Angelica’s thoughts spun wildly, Curtis’s eyes snapped fully open.
“Curtis, Curtis, you’re awake! You’re really awake!” Julia cried out.
Watching the scene unfold, Annie’s three besties couldn’t help but marvel, “Curtis was totally out of it just a moment ago, and then Victoria pulled a needle from his head and he woke right up. That’s unbelievable!”
Annie chimed in from the side, “See? I told you my sister–in–law is amazing!”

Jackson grinned. “Vickie, looks like the real drama is about to start”
“Yeah, the real show is about to begin, Victoria replied.
Curtis gave his head a little shake, and as his eyes slowly focused, he murmured softly, “Mom.”
His voice was dry and hoarse.
“Oh, Curtis! I was so scared! I kept worrying you’d never wake up again, that you’d just stay asleep forever. If that really happened, I don’t have a reason to live anymore!” Julia sobbed.
She gripped Curtis’s hand tightly, trembling slightly with excitement and fear.
Curtis struggled to moisten his parched lips, his gaze drifting around the room, lost and searching for something.
Suddenly, a dark figure shot over to the bedside. That poisonous voice, the one that had haunted him countless times while he was unconscious, rang out loud and clear.
“Curtis, you’re finally awake! That’s great.” Angelica’s voice sounded sweet, but Curtis could hear the venom underneath.
She added, “I’ve been worried sick about you these days.
“You know, I haven’t slept a wink. Every night, I’ve been begging heaven to let you wake up. I’d even trade half my life if it meant you’d open your eyes.”
Curtis’s eyes, still getting used to the brightness, snapped wide open at Angelica’s words. His look was pure disgust and hatred, he couldn’t hide it.
He’d caught every bit of it.
He might not have seen what went down at home just now, but he heard it all, clear as day.
‘It’s all over! Our whole family is finished!
‘Grandpa’s not giving us a single penny of the Binder family fortune. It’s all because we got played by Angelica and turned our backs on Victoria.
‘And now, the mastermind behind all this, Angelica, is right here, pretending to care about me. Her hypocrisy makes me want to puke, Curtis thought, his disgust boiling over.
He wanted to yell at her, but his voice was so rough and weak from just waking up that his words came out as little more than a raspy whisper. “An… An… Angelica… you…”
Simon was about to step forward, but when he saw the look of utter disgust and hatred on Curtis’s face, he froze right where
he stood.
‘Why is Curtis staring at her with so much loathing? He just woke up. Simon was baffled. ‘Could it be because of Angelica?”
Suddenly, Simon remembered Victoria had told him that Curtis had been awake all along.
At the hospital, it was just Julia and Angelica looking after him.
He wondered whether something went down while Angelica was taking care of Curtis that made him despise her this much.
“Mom…” Curtis’s voice shook with urgency as he stared at Julia, who was still caught up in her grief. Getting more desperate, he raised his voice, “Help me… get up!”

Chapter 184
Julia snapped back to reality, like she’d just come to her senses. “Okay!” she answered quickly.
She carefully reached out, holding Curtis’s arms, and slowly helped him sit up from the couch.
Curtis was still so weak that it took all his strength just to sit up. Once he finally managed it, he let out a long breath and softly said to his mother, “Mom… can you get me some water? I’m so thirsty.”
Julia was just about to get up, but Simon spoke up first. “Mom, I’ll get it.”
He swallowed his confusion, glanced at Victoria, then hurried over to the water dispenser, filled a glass, and brought it back
to the couch.
Then, Angelica turned around and reached out to Simon. “Let me give it to Curtis. He just woke up, his body hasn’t fully recovered…”
Before she could finish, Curtis cut her off. “No. I can do it myself.”
Angelica paused for a moment, then withdrew her hand in silence.
Simon shot a look at Angelica, then stepped right past her and handed the water straight to Curtis.
Then, Curtis took the glass and gulped down the water in big, desperate mouthfuls.
Julia immediately said, her voice full of concern, “Curtis, slow down, slow down.”
After downing the whole cup, Curtis finally felt a bit more like himself.
“Do you want something to eat?” Julia asked.
He handed the cup back to Julia, cleared his throat, and tried to speak again. This time, his voice was much clearer. “No, Mom, I have something important to tell you all.”
Angelica felt a wave of anxiety, got up, and quietly moved aside.
“Something important?” Julia turned and set the glass down on the table. She hesitated, then quickly asked, “Is there more to your car accident? Did Victoria try to hurt you, so you messed with her brakes to protect yourself?”
“No, Mom.” Curtis cut her off. “Please, just let me finish.”
Julia responded softly, “Alright, Curtis, go ahead, say whatever’s on your mind. I’m all ears. It’s been ages since I heard you speak, I just want to hear your voice a little more.”
Curtis turned to Victoria, his eyes full of guilt. “Vickie…”
Just hearing him call her that name stunned Darell, Julia, and Simon.
Julia, who had just been told to keep quiet, blurted out, “Curtis, what’s going on? Did that crash scramble your brain? You forgot we already cut Victoria out of our lives? After everything she did to you, how can you still call her that?”
‘No doubt about it now, Curtis really hates me, Angelica thought, her heart sinking.
Curtis’s gaze stayed locked on Victoria’s calm face. He shook his head, regret heavy in his voice. “No, Mom, I remember everything. I was wrong. We messed up… We all got tricked by Angelica.”
