“Are you trying to seduce me, Jack?” Victoria teased. Jackson tugged at the front of his bathrobe and said calmly, “You caught me again.” Victoria chuckled softly on the screen. “When are you coming back tomorrow?” Jackson asked, concern in his voice. Victoria replied, “I’ll head back around eight after breakfast. I’ll come straight to your office for your treatment.” Jackson nodded. “Sounds good.” Just then, Jackson noticed Greenie popping up behind Victoria on the screen. Greenie had curled its tail around a stainless steel bowl and was banging it against the wall, making a loud clanging noise. Victoria turned around and said, “Alright, alright, stop bugging me. I’ll take you all out for a buffet in a bit.” Then she turned back to the camera and explained with a helpless smile, “It’s rare for us to visit the village, and there’s so much food here. Greenie and the others just want to run wild for a while.” Jackson noticed the smug look on Greenie’s face. He raised an eyebrow. ‘Is Greenie trying to steal her attention again?’ “I gotta go. See you tomorrow,” Victoria said, and before Jackson could even get a word out, she quickly ended the video call Jackson stared at his phone screen, reluctant to put it down. Then, a sudden thought popped into his head. ‘Annie just helped me deal with Gavin, but am I really going to have to compete with a snake for Victoria’s love now?’ ***** That night, Annie and her three friends set up a hangout at Minus One Bar, calling over everyone they knew from their usual crowd. Annie gossiped about what happened at the Binder family’s place that morning, telling it with all the juicy details. Everyone was buzzing, shocked and eager to hear more. Honestly, the Binder family totally had it coming,” someone said. “Still, it’s pretty crazy. Victoria’s only been in the capital scene for such a short time, and she’s already got the Binder family under her thumb,” another person added. Taking over the Binder family is one thing, but keeping it is the real challenge,” someone else chimed in. Annie said confidently, “Keeping it? You guys are seriously underestimating Victoria. Once she takes over the Binder family, she’s not just going to hold onto it, she’ll turn them into a first-tier elite family.” Someone let out a dismissive laugh. “Come on, Annie, that’s a bit much. Victoria only managed to beat Simon and his family because they weren’t all that capable to begin with. But making the Binder family a first-tier elite family? Do you think the other families are just background props? If it were that easy, wouldn’t everyone be a top family already?” “Yeah, seriously. These days, if any of us can even snag a few crumbs from the Thorntons or Clarks, we’d count ourselves lucky,” someone else chimed in. “And from what you’re saying, Victoria’s already pissed off the Clarks. You think they’ll just let her slide? Forget about turning the Binder family into some top-tier powerhouse, she’ll be lucky if the Clarks don’t run them into the ground,” another person added. Someone else piped up with a snarky tone, “Who knows? If Jackson actually pulls off inheriting the Thornton family, maybe he’ll give Victoria a boost.”. “Co per stop dreaming. If Gerry really wanted Jackson to take over, why wait three months to make it official?” another fed. shrugged off all the snark. “Whatever, I’m saying it now. Jackson is definitely going to be the Thornton family ictoria will turn the Binder family into a first-tier elite family. Believe it or not, that’s up to you.” y, I don’t buy it. Anyone else?” someone said. me neither,” another person agreed. yone who goes up against the Clarks never ends well, it’s either bankruptcy or getting bought out,” someone else chimed Annie fired back, “Maybe you guys are all afraid of the Clarks, but Victoria isn’t like the rest of you! Now, it’s anyone who dares mess with her that’s really asking for trouble!” Someone, clearly just here for the drama, piped up, “So Annie, are you saying the Clarks are the ones who won’t have a good ending?” Annie shot back, “If the Clarks stop messing with her, they’ll stay out of trouble. Simple as that.” “Wow, Annie, you sure know how to brag,” someone scoffed. Just then, Annie’s phone started ringing on the table, the screen lighting up. Her friend sitting next to her caught sight of the contact name on the screen, “Idiot Simp”, and burst out laughing. Oh, Annie, looks like you’ve got another simp chasing after you,” she teased. Annie leaned over, grabbed her phone, and waved it off. “He’s not my simp.” Not your simp? Then why’d you set his contact name like that?” her friend teased. Annie didn’t bother to explain. She just checked the message from Gavin. Gavin: [Victoria, want some late-night snacks? I was delivering fried chicken to a couple, but they got into a huge fight and didn’t want it anymore. So I’ll drop it off for you.] Annie stared at her phone, speechless. ‘Who does that? He can’t even be bothered to buy something and just bringing food someone else didn’t want?’ Annie thought it over. Tonight’s crowd was from the capital’s lesser elite. If she brought Gavin, the food delivery guy, he’d be d fire back without hesitation. mocked. And if he heard the ‘Let them go at each s Annie: [Bring it how, she thought. Gavin: [Got it! I’m just around the corner. Hang tight, I’ll be there in a sec!] Annie had just set her phone down when a shadow suddenly fell across her. Hey, little Thornton girl, did you just say my Clark family would be in trouble if we kept messing with that bitch Victoria?” the voice sneered. Annie looked up and saw it was Bater, the Clark family’s second son who’d shown up at the Binder house earlier today to stir up trouble. He had an almost naked woman hanging off his arm, a luxury cigar clamped between his teeth, and he was staring her down with a cold, predatory glare. Annie didn’t flinch. “Yeah, that’s right. You were at the Binder house today, weren’t you? You saw what happened to Darell’s family. So, are you really insisting Victoria owes you an apology?” He spat the cigar stub right at Annie. “Don’t think just because you’re a Thornton I won’t mess with you! If you dare stick up for that bitch, you’re on my hit list! Victoria didn’t apologize to me today, and I’m still pissed off. You just made yourself a target, so if you get caught in the crossfire, that’s your own damn bad luck.” With that, he shoved the woman off his arm and raised his hand, ready to slap Annie across the face. But before he could land the blow, someone grabbed his wrist, stopping him cold. Annie looked up in surprise, her eyes landing on the person standing behind him. “Who the fuck are you to butt in?” Bater spun around, spotting Gavin in his delivery uniform with a takeout bag in hand. He snorted, “A delivery guy thinks he can mess with me? Think you’re some kind of hero, huh?” Gavin scowled, clearly pissed. “I heard you talking shit about Victoria.” Clark sneered. “Yeah, I said it. So what? Victoria’s nothing but a filthy bitch…” He didn’t even get to finish before Gavin slammed a fist right into his face, sending him sprawling across Annie’s table. Bottles and glasses crashed to the floor, shattering everywhere. Annie stared at Gavin in shock, never expecting that fool to be so gutsy to actually throw a punch without hesitation. “Bater, you alright?” The woman rushed over, panic written all over her face as she helped him up. Bater shoved her away, pointed furiously at Gavin, and snarled, “You damn delivery boy, you must have a death wish!” Someone spoke up. “Bater, isn’t that the son that the Fairbank family just brought back?” Bater Clark finally recognized the delivery guy as Gavin, the young man who tried to ruin Jackson and Victoria’s engagement party. He sneered. “So, the Fairbank family’s son is out here delivering takeout? Did your family ditch you all over again?”
