“What the hell are you doing? Get out of my way! Don’t block me. I’m in a foul mood today, so watch it or I’ll make you regret it,” Donald snapped at the two bodyguards in front of him.
But the bodyguards stood there like two iron towers, not budging an inch.
Donald was tall and built like a tank himself, but in front of these two, he couldn’t help but feel outmatched.
‘Seriously?‘ Donald thought, feeling confused. ‘I’m supposed to be the boss here! Why am I getting pushed around by my own employees?‘
The bodyguards didn’t waste a single word. They just exchanged a look and, in perfect sync, coordinated their moves.
Each of them threw a punch at Donald’s face at the exact same moment. Even though he was already middle–aged, his face was still considered handsome. Well, at least until now.
Donald was completely caught off guard. He staggered back, instinctively covering his nose and mouth.
“Have you lost your minds? You actually dared to hit me…” Donald yelled.
But before he could even finish, the bodyguards didn’t hesitate to smash two more punches into his face.
This time, Donald was knocked flat on his back.
Then, the two bodyguards dragged Donald to a hidden corner outside the mansion.
Before long, the corner was filled with the sounds of punches, kicks, and Donald’s pained cries.

In the Thornton family’s study, Jackson was playing chess with Gerry.
Gerry stared at the board, noticing he was at a disadvantage, and frowned. “How did things go at Vickie’s place today?” he asked.
Jackson smiled. “Vickie managed to win over the Binder family.”
Gerry nodded, his eyes full of approval. After thinking it over, he placed his white piece on the board. “Vickie is way more reliable than Darell and his family. If I were Mr. Binder, I’d rather entrust the Binder family to her too.”
If he hadn’t gotten to know Victoria, he never would’ve believed a girl in her early twenties could really manage a wealthy family like the Binders.
“Still, Vickie’s just a kid. You should watch over her more in the future,” Gerry said,
Jackson shook his head. “Honestly, with Vickie’s abilities, she doesn’t need me looking out for her.”
Gerry glanced up at his grandson. “Alright, you know her better than I do.”
Then, Jackson picked up a black piece. “But Vickie got on the Clark family’s bad side.”
Gerry’s hand paused mid–air as he was about to place his piece, then said, “It’s fine. I’ve been wanting to take the Clark family down a notch for a long time. They’ve been fighting us for resources for years.
“I’m getting old, and I can’t keep them in check anymore. That’s why I need you to handle it.”

“Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll take care of the Clarks,” Jackson said. As soon as Gerry placed his piece, Jackson put down his ov black piece without missing a beat.
Gerry stared at the board.
The game was already decided. He reluctantly put the piece he’d just picked up back where it was.
Just then, Donald’s loud, rambunctious voice echoed from outside the study. “Don’t stop me!.I need to see Dad!”
Gerry started to get up, and the butler, who had been waiting nearby, immediately bent down to help him. “Jackson, from now on, the Thornton family is in your hands. I know you won’t let me down,” Gerry said.
Leading the third branch, Xavier had guts and determination, but he always wanted to fight violence with violence, just lik the Clarks did back in the day.
If that approach still worked, the Clarks wouldn’t be so desperate to clean up their reputation now.
As for the fourth branch, Felix was scheming and calculating, and he could keep his cool. Maybe he was decent at managin people, but his vision was way too limited.
The reason Gerry didn’t announce Jackson as his heir right away, but instead waited three months, was to make the other Thornton family members accept it.
To outsiders, it looked like he was giving up on Jackson, but in reality, he wanted the rest of the family to see for themselve how they ended up losing to someone they thought was worthless and disabled.
Outside the study, Donald, his face swollen and bruised, saw Gerry walk out and immediately started whining. “Dad… Jackson is out of control! He actually had someone beat me up.”
But as soon as he spotted Jackson coming out right behind Gerry, he clammed up, his complaint stuck in his throat.
“Really? Jackson, why’d you have someone rough up your dad?” Gerry asked, barely paying attention.
Jackson put on a troubled look. “Well, a fortune–teller said if Dad steps into the house, he’ll ruin the Thornton family’s luck for a year. The only way to get rid of it was to beat the bad luck out of him.”
Donald glared at him with his swollen eyes. “You’re full of shit!”
“Shut up!” Gerry shot Donald a cold look as he hobbled on his cane. “If that’s true, Jackson went easy on you. Want to live? Go to the hospital and stop whining. Or I’ll send you straight to the psych ward.”
Donald was left speechless, too scared to say another word. He could only watch helplessly as Gerry headed downstairs.
Once Gerry was gone, Donald shot Jackson a furious glare and hissed, “You actually had your own father beaten up? Aren’t you worried about getting karma?”
Jackson glanced at Donald, who was sporting a bruised face and a limp, and said, “Ollie, get George, the therapist Donald hired from abroad, to help him blow off some steam. Don’t let him die of frustration.”
Ollie nodded. “Got it, sir.”
Donald was livid. He grabbed his cane, about to swing it at Jackson’s head. “Jackson, you little…”
But as soon as he raised the cane, he lost his balance and went tumbling down the stairs, rolling all the way to the first floor.
Donald’s head was spinning, and it took him a while to finally open his eyes. He reached up, touched his head, and realized he’d busted it open and bleed.

Ollie adjusted the wheelchair for the stairs and wheeled Jackson downstairs.
“I’m bleeding! It hurts… Jackson, hurry up! Get someone to take me to the hospital!” Donald cried out.
Jackson glanced at Donald lying there in a mess, ignored him, and went straight to the dining room.

Terrified he might actually die right there, Donald used everything he had to crawl toward the bodyguards by the door. “Take… take me to the hospital…”
He blacked out right after saying that.
After dinner with Gerry, Jackson went back to his room, pulled out his phone, and sent a message to Victoria. [Did you get Master Leon home?]
It didn’t take long for her to reply. [Yeah, we’re home. About to have dinner!]
Not long after, she sent another photo.
It was a selfie of Victoria, with Leon and an elderly woman busy in the kitchen behind her. Next to the steaming stove and a big pot, a tiny green snake was staring intently at the pot.
The elderly woman was probably Leon’s wife.
Jackson opened the photo and zoomed in, checking out Victoria’s face up close and soaking in every little detail.
Her hair shimmered under the orange glow, her eyebrows were raised in a cheeky way, and her eyes crinkled with her smile.
After staring at her face for a while, Jackson long–pressed the photo to save it, then finally sent his reply. [Enjoy the food. I’ll video call you later.]
Victoria: [Okay.]
Jackson put his phone down and wheeled himself into the bathroom.
Fresh out of the shower, Jackson was drying his hair, grabbed his phone, and fired off a video chat.
She picked it up almost instantly. As soon as her face appeared on the screen, Jackson’s eyes grew gentle.
“Jack, you look so irresistible right now!” Victoria blurted out, catching him off guard.
Victoria’s bold words made Jackson do a double take. He definitely wasn’t expecting that.
Jackson glanced at the corner of the screen, catching his own reflection. His messy hair was still damp, beads of water clinging to the strands, and his cheeks were flushed from the steam, giving him an unusual healthy glow.
His bathrobe hung loosely on his shoulders, offering Victoria a teasing glimpse of his toned chest.
