Curtis just gave his mom a look, totally speechless. He sighed and said, “Seriously, Mom, you think that’s something to be happy about?”

Julia shot back, “Of course it is! If she’d taken it, we’d be short of another three million dollars.”

Curtis reminded her, “If Victoria had accepted the money, that would’ve meant she was willing to forgive us.”

Julia paused, then she finally realized what he meant. “Yeah, if Victoria had been willing to forgive our family back then, none of this mess would’ve happened,” she said.

But Curtis shook his head, sounding frustrated. “It’s not that simple,” he said.

“As long as Angelica was still part of our family, we could never truly treat Victoria the way she deserved. With her character, there’s no way she’d ever put up with being pushed around by us.”

Julia was at a loss for words and sighed again. “It’s okay. Now that we know Angelica was the one who tricked us, if we really make an effort to show Victoria we care about her, maybe she’ll forgive us someday.”
