Victoria didn’t bother with formalities. She walked straight over to the coffee table, plopped down, and her eyes immediately landed on the beautifully wrapped lunchbox.

“What kind of gourmet did you order today?” she asked. As she spoke, she couldn’t wait to start unwrapping the lunchbox.

Jackson smiled, rolled his wheelchair over to the coffee table, and patiently explained to Victoria, “This dish is called ‘Emerald Delight‘. It has tender shrimp and crisp veggies.

“Then there’s this ‘Signature Braised Beef, rich and flavorful. And finally, the ‘Mushroom Soup, it’s both nutritious and delicious.”

The mouthwatering aroma hit Victoria’s nostrils as she leaned in for a sniff. “Just the smell alone tells me this is going to be amazing,” she said. As she spoke, she picked up the fork and handed another to Jackson, and couldn’t wait to dig in.

Just as Jackson took the fork, his phone started ringing. He glanced at the caller ID and saw “Xavier Thornton.” He didn’t bother to answer immediately, just let it ring out until it stopped.

Victoria picked up a shrimp from the “Emerald Delight,” popped it into her mouth, and looked up at Jackson. “Who was that? Why didn’t you answer?”

“It’s Xavier, Jackson replied.

Hearing the name, Victoria immediately got it. She swallowed her food and said, “It’s him. So you’ve already got Fave wrapped up?”

Jackson nodded slightly “Yeah”

When Victoria was starting Jackson’s treatment, Xavier called again. This time, Jackson didn’t let it ring; he answered right

away.

Xavier’s voice came through, sounding a bit tentative. “Hey, Jackson, my sister went back to the old house yesterday and then just disappeared. No one’s heard a word from her since. Do you know where she is?”

Jackson sat back comfortably in his wheelchair, his gaze locked on Victoria as she focused on treating his legs with acupuncture. She was totally engrossed, her hands steady and skilled, each needle going right into the perfect spot.

Jackson watched her quietly for a while, then replied lazily, “No idea. Maybe she left the old house, got hammered at some bar, and just passed out.”

Xavier said, “No way. My dad had people check out every bar she usually hangs out at, but there’s absolutely nothing. Moreover, her phone goes straight to voicemail; it’s been off the whole time.”

Jackson replied quietly, “Is that so? Then maybe you should be asking her besties. What has made you come to me?”

“I just figured you’ve got connections everywhere, Jackson. Nothing escapes you, so I thought maybe you’d have some clue we don’t,” Xavier explained.

“I really don’t have any leads on your sister, but I’ll keep an ear out,” Jackson said, then changed the subject. “By the way. Cassian’s gone missing, too. Any news on him?”
