Curtis cleared his throat. “Whoa, that’s quite a jump in conversation. Vickie, you’re not here with me, and talking about this just makes the night even tougher.”
Victoria chuckled again. “My bad. If you really can’t take it, just handle it yourself.”
“I’ve survived twenty–six years already. Waiting another two months is nothing,” Curtis said.
Victoria lay back down and pulled the covers over herself. “Jack, can you sing?”
“I guess so.” Jack replied.
“Then sing me a lullaby,” Victoria said.
“Alright.” There was a brief pause, and then Jack began to sing softly, “Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are…”
At ten o’clock on Saturday morning, after a high–quality sleep thanks to Jackson’s tone–deaf lullaby, Victoria cheerfully hopped into the car Jackson had come to pick her up in.
She slid into the back seat, eagerly scooted right up next to Jackson, then tilted her head and stared at him, totally transfixed.
Jackson was seriously handsome. His sharp nose, deep eyes, and the slight curve of his lips all made it impossible not to notice just how attractive he was.
Jackson met her gaze, his eyes soft as he said, “Vickie, you look extra beautiful today.”
Victoria had noticed it herself when she looked in the mirror this morning. She’d only been back in Benwig City for less than a month, and her skin was already two shades lighter. She really did have that refined, privileged aura of a Benwig City
socialite.
Honestly, her skin always lightened up fast, but back in the village, she spent all day in the mountains gathering herbs, getting sunburned for hours at a time. So even if she got pale again, she’d just get tanned right back.
Now that she was in Benwig City, she hardly ever got out of the sun.
Victoria flashed him a smile. “Jack, you’re looking as good as ever today. Actually, scratch that. You look even better than usual.”
“What if I told you I got all dressed up just for you? Would you think about giving me a little reward?” Jackson joked, his eyes sparkling with playful hope.
‘Deal, ten kisses coming your way!” Victoria grinned, then leaned right in. Before Jackson could even react, she grabbed his cheeks and showered his handsome face with loud, smacking kisses.
She made sure to hit exactly ten kisses, then finally let go, totally pleased with herself
Jackson was caught off guard by how into it she was. He was practically stunned by her sudden affection
But he snapped out of it quickly, still wanting more. He gave her a lazy, teasing smile and said. “It’s a long ride. Vickie How about another round? Might as well pass the time.”
To his surprise, Victoria leaned in even closer, her breath hot against his ear as she seductively whispered. Jack, just kissing

sn’t really enough to keep me entertained.”
ackson pulled her slender waist against him, holding her close. “I’d love to do something to pass the time with you in this car, but unfortunately, my leg’s still not ready for your kind of fun”

Victoria traced slow circles on his clean shirt, her voice lingering as she flashed a bright, teasing smile. “That really is a shame. I wish I had some kind of cheat code to fix your leg instantly, so we wouldn’t have to waste all this time waiting for it o heal.”
ackson caught her restless fingers, a lazy smile spreading across his face. “It’s alright, Vickic. Good things are worth waiting
or.”
Ollie, who was driving, kept a poker face, but deep down, he was dying inside.
He just wanted to say, ‘Seriously, you two lovebirds, can you not spend the whole ride flirting? Spare a thought for this poor ingle soul in the front seat!‘
Mimiburg Restaurant was absolutely packed. All the fancy private rooms had been snatched up by the city’s big shots, and he whole first floor was decked out for the big fan meet.
Reporters from every major media outlet in Benwig City had been camped out at the restaurant for ages, all itching to be he first to spill the tea on who the real mastermind behind Viara was.
Viara’s fans, once they heard their favorite author was actually showing up, came running from all over the country. Now hey were gathered together, waving glowing signs that said, “Viara, you’re the best!”
Since they couldn’t get inside, the fans just gathered at the entrance, hoping to catch a glimpse of the action.
Curtis showed up, too.
He didn’t dare go straight to Victoria, so he settled for watching her from a distance this time.
Seeing all those fans waving glowing signs for his sister, Curtis couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride and happiness.
Turns out, his little sister was just as much of a star as he was.
Suddenly, Curtis overheard three guys nearby talking trash, their voices cutting through the crowd.
‘Come on, Viara’s just some online writer, but she acts like she’s a celebrity. They had to organize a whole fan meet just to buy her novel rights,” one of them sneered.
“Yeah, I heard her editor handled all the deals for her last three books. She never even showed her face, only took the money, another guy added.
“So, what do you think? Viara, guy or girl?” the third one asked.
“Gotta be a girl, right? The main character’s a woman,” one of them shrugged.
“Honestly, I think the author’s a guy. ‘Chasing the Dream‘ might be published on a women’s fiction site, but all that historical power play and military strategy? Only a male author could pull off something that epic Female writers just stick to romance and drama, always petty and narrow–minded,” one of them scoffed.
“Yeah, you’ve got a point. Odds are it’s a guy. When a dude writes for the women’s genre, it’s like next–level domination” another chimed in.

Chapter 228
Curtis standing among the crowd of fans, finally had enough. He turned to the three guys and said with a chili in his votre Viara’s a woman.”
And for the record, she’s my sister, Curtis thought.
The three guys who’d been saying Viara was a man turned to Curtis, but with his baseball cap and mask, they couldn’t see his face at all. One of them questioned, “How can you be so sure? Do you know her or something?”
Curtis simply said, “Yeah, I know her,” but he didn’t say she was his sister.
The three guys just wouldn’t back down.
“A female writer? She probably has a ghostwriter doing it for her,” one of them sneered.
“I just don’t buy it. I don’t believe a woman could pull off that kind of grand vision,” another scoffed.
“Seriously, I’ve read countless novels. Women just can’t write real political intrigue!” the third one chimed in.
Curtis let out a cold laugh, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “You guys are men, too. Can any of you actually write something like ‘Chasing the Dream“?”
Seeing them at a loss for words, Curtis sneered, “Pathetic. None of you have accomplished anything, yet you act like being a guy is something to brag about.”
The three guys immediately got defensive. “We’re not writers! Do you have to be an engineer to review a fridge?”
“Yeah, seriously! Who are you to act all high and mighty here?” another one snapped.
‘Obviously just some brainless fan!” the third guy sneered.
If this had been a few years ago, Curtis would’ve had those three guys on the ground in no time. But things were different now; he didn’t want to cause any drama for Victoria. He merely treated them like a bunch of clowns and ignored them.
Viara’s female fans, who’d just witnessed Curtis standing up for their idol, started whispering among themselves. “Hey, doesn’t his voice sound a lot like that up–and–coming singer, Curtis Binder?”
“Yeah, another agreed.
When Curtis realized Viara’s female fans were starting to look his way, he quickly tugged the brim of his cap down, trying to hide his face even more.
Luckily, it wasn’t long before the girls‘ attention was drawn to someone else.
“Whoa! Is that Nathan Clark from Benwig City?” one of them gasped.
“It’s him! He’s seriously handsome! And the one next to him with the mask, that’s got to be the top idol, Lexi, another girl whispered excitedly.
“Looks like Nathan’s determined to snag Viara’s novel rights for his fiancée, Lexi!” a third girl chimed m
