Chapter 250
“Simon, has Angelica reached out to you?” Curtis asked as he sat down by the hospital bed after Julia left the room.
Simon looked up from his phone, a bit surprised. “Yeah, she just messaged me.”
Curtis frowned. “Didn’t I tell her not to bother you?”
After a pause, he asked, “So what does she want this time? Is she pulling that same old trick, acting like her dad’s about to beat her so you’ll come to her rescue? I knew she was faking it. If she really got beaten to death, there’s no way she’d still b texting you, right?”
Just then, the girl Simon was texting replied.
[I’m not sure about that, but I think your sister still hasn’t found a director.]
Simon breathed a sigh of relief.
[Okay, thanks.]
She replied instantly:
[No need to thank me, Simon. I’m happy to do this for you.]
Simon didn’t reply.
He knew exactly what she was getting at. Back when he was still CEO at Brightstar Entertainment, he’d noticed the way always looked at him–her gaze was a little off, almost like she was hiding something. But whenever they met, she’d be so nervous she could barely speak.
He never expected that after leaving Brightstar, she’d finally have the nerve to reach out to him directly.
‘Is it because I’ve fallen from grace that she thinks she has a chance now?‘ Simon wondered.
Whatever, Simon really didn’t care what that girl thought. He was only talking to her to find out how things were going with Victoria after she took over Brightstar Entertainment.
Now it was clear–after the director got poached by Gale Entertainment, Victoria still hadn’t found anyone new That mean Simon still had a shot.
Curtis, sitting by Simon’s bedside, noticed his brother was busy texting and stayed quiet. He simply sat there, quietly booking at his own phone.
He wasn’t messaging anyone, though–he was just browsing through Victoria’s social media updates.
Sure enough, Victoria had posted another update today.

After hesitating for a long time, Curtis finally gave her post a like.
He went back to his messages and stared at the blank conversation with Victoria, but just couldn’t work up the nerve to te
her.
Maybe after some time… I’ll definitely find the right moment to reach out to her, Curtis thought to himself.
Night had fallen, and the Thornton Estate was shrouded in quiet, as if the whole place was a sleeping giant.
In the study, the lights were soft and warm.
Jackson and Gerry sat across from each other, locked in a quiet game of chess. The black and white pieces were scattered across the board, their silent battle unfolding move by move.
Gerry placed a piece on the board, then slowly looked up, his gaze settling on Jackson. I heard you sent your father to a c facility.”
His voice was low, full of authority,
Jackson showed no emotion, replying with a simple, “Mm.”
Gerry stared at Jackson, trying to read past his calm expression and see what he was really thinking. He asked again. “Why Is it because he brought his secret daughter home?”
What Gerry really meant was, bringing home a kid from another relationship had already been dealt with by slashing his budget–there was no reason to take things so far and lock him up in a care facility.
Jackson kept it short. “No.”
Gerry’s brow furrowed slightly. After a brief pause, he asked, “Then why?”
Jackson’s eyes didn’t waver, his voice as calm as still water. “Because Cassian isn’t my biological brother.”
Gerry’s hand, still gripping the white chess piece, suddenly paused. “Are you telling the truth?”
Jackson nodded. “It’s true.”
Gerry’s anger spiked. He threw the white piece aside and snorted coldly. “So that whole thing with the fortune–teller waying your brother would bring bad luck to the family–that was all your father’s setup too, wasn’t it?*
Jackson didn’t confirm or deny it.
“Your father deserves to spend the rest of his life in that care facility, reflecting on what he’s done! Gerry wasn’t all that bothered by his son having kids outside of marriage, but he would never tolerate his son dragging him into his scheines juss. to bring those illegitimate children home.
‘Who knows what else my son might try for those kids? Would he even go as far as to plot against me? Gerry thought, bie anger flaring.
There’s really nothing Donald wouldn’t do–after all, he’d already plotted against his own son.
Once he’d calmed down, Gerry looked at jackson, guilt showing in his eyes. “Do you have diy

Jackson let go of his black chess piece, his expression unchanged. “No, Donald won’t admit he swapped his own kid for my
real brother”
“Of course he wouldn’t dare!” Gerry’s face grew grim. “I’ll send someone to track down your brother.
Jackson replied quietly. “Thanks, Grandpa.”
“I’ve been losing all night–I’m done,” Gerry muttered, then got up and walked out of the study.
Jackson followed in his wheelchair, watching as the butler helped Gerry to his room for the night. Only after that did Jackson head out to his own quarters in the backyard.
When he saw Victoria’s message, he replied to her.
[Was just playing chess with Grandpa.]
She replied:
[Oh- Did you shower yet?]
[Not yet. It’s pretty late–if you’re tired, go ahead and get some sleep.]
[Yeah, I’m pretty tired today. I even fell asleep in the car on my way home. I’m gonna hit the hay now- Goodnight, Jack-]
[Goodnight, Vickie.]
Jackson sent a goodnight sticker, and after making sure Victoria wasn’t going to reply again, he finally put his phone down and wheeled himself into the bathroom.
After his shower, he dried his hair, adjusted the wheelchair so it was level with the bed, and used his arms to shift himself over. He steadied his legs–which were finally starting to move a little–as he settled in for the night.
Once he was done, he rolled over to his nightstand, opened the drawer, and pulled out an old, faded photo he’d kept for
years.
It was a picture of him at five, cradling his baby brother in his arms–a photo his mom had taken herself.
On the back, he’d written: ‘Mom, I promise I’ll find a way to bring my little brother home.
He’d made that vow to himself after his mom died in a car crash while searching for his brother. Worried he’d forget, he wrote it on the back of the photo as a reminder.
Later, after finally establishing himself in the Thornton family and earning his grandfather’s trust, Jackson managed to convince Gerry to let him bring his brother home. But in the end, he ended up bringing home the wrong boy–he hadn’t found his real brother at all.
“Mom, I’m sorry. I’m sorry to my brother,” Jackson said, his fingers gently tracing the faded face in the photo, his tone resolute. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m alive, I’ll find my brother. And if he’s already gone. Donald will join him in the grave
Outside the window, a sudden rustling sounded, as if his mother was answering him from beyond.
Jackson gently placed the photo back in the drawer and slid it shut
