Victoria nodded. “I understand, Grandpa. I know exactly who I am. I’m the real heiress of the Binder family.”
After hearing Angelica’s words in the recording the day before, Calvin had thought a lot about everything.
He let out a slow sigh. “Unfortunately, compared to Angelica, you only made it through middle school before you dropped
out.
“Even if we find a way to get you into a top university now, it won’t mean much. We can’t have you go back and start high school again at your age.
“So tell me. What are your plans? What do you want to learn? Or rather, what do you plan to do with your future?”
He paused, then added, “Angelica was raised by your parents to be one of the most talented young women in Benwig City. That’s the real reason they won’t let her go.
“All that talk about raising her for twenty years and growing attached is nonsense.”
Victoria understood exactly what he meant. If she wanted a place in the Binder family, she had to prove she was better than Angelica.
The truth was, she had dropped out after middle school because she realized she could teach herself everything in the books. The pace in school had been too slow for her.
So she had someone buy her textbooks. By the time she was sixteen, she had already finished the high school and college material she was interested in.
As for everything outside of school, if it caught her interest, she learned it.
The things Angelica was proud of–playing the piano, painting, and speaking five languages–were some of the least impressive things Victoria could do.
‘In families like ours, people will eat you alive,” Calvin said, his voice steady and serious. “If you want respect, if you want people to admire or even fear you, you need real ability.
“You need something that makes them look up to you. That’s the first lesson I want you to learn as my granddaughter.”
Victoria smiled faintly. “Grandpa, you’re worrying too much. The world I came from was a lot harsher than this. I already understand how it works.”
She paused, then said calmly, “What Angelica knows is about pleasing people. What I know makes people need me.”
Calvin raised a brow. “Oh? And what do you know?”
“To be honest, quite a lot, Victoria said. “For example, medicine.”
A trace of doubt flashed through Calvin’s eyes. He had already looked into her background. Back in the village, she had post been a healer, making a living treating people and selling herbs.
“So you don’t think you’re any worse than Angelica, huh?” he asked.
Since he was being direct, Victoria didn’t bother holding back. “Of course not. And I’m not just competing with Angelica. Im competing with Simon and Curtis.”
She met his gaze. “If I prove I’m capable, would you consider handing over Binder Pharma Group and Brightstar

Entertainment to me?”
Calvin was genuinely surprised. She said it so calmly, as if it were no big deal.
He couldn’t help but wonder if she really had more to her than he had seen.

The Binder family had been declining in recent years, mostly because the younger generation wasn’t strong enough.
Hector had ability, but no ambition. He only cared about his small family.
Darell had ambition, but not enough skill. Half the time, he made things worse.
As for Simon and Curtis, they could manage what they had, but they lacked the ability to take things further.
That was why the family now had to rely on a marriage alliance with the Thornton family to strengthen their hold on their position.
For the first time in a long while, Calvin felt a flicker of expectation. “If you truly have the ability to surpass Darell and Simon, then yes. I can hand both companies over to you.”
Victoria smiled. “Good. Then you have to keep your word.”
Calvin’s tone turned firm. “I will. I won’t look down on you or limit you just because you’re a girl.
“But remember this. If you want to stand firm in the Binder family, prove yourself. If you’re truly capable, there’s no problem with you taking over everything in the future.”
He waved a hand. “Alright. It’s late. Go back and rest with your parents.”
“Okay, Grandpa. You should get some rest,” Victoria replied politely before turning to leave. She didn’t add anything more.
Calvin watched her go and let out a quiet sigh. “She really doesn’t give away any warmth.”
Milton smiled faintly. “She is very clever. But she’s also very clear about what she likes and what she hates. She doesn’t tolerate being wronged.
“It’s understandable. She spent twenty years out there on her own. She didn’t survive on kindness.”
Calvin’s gaze grew deep and unreadable. He was looking forward to seeing just how capable she really was.
Even though Calvin had told them to leave, Daisy and Hector hadn’t gone far. They were waiting outside in the pavilion.
The moment Victoria stepped out, Daisy hurried over, her face full of concern. “Victoria, what did your grandfather say?”
Victoria smiled. “Nothing much. He just asked what I plan to learn and what I want to do in the future.”
Daisy let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding. She had been afraid Calvin might pressure Victoria into going back to Darell and Julia.
“And what did you tell him?” she asked.
Victoria said calmly, “I asked him if I prove I’m more capable than Darell and Simon, whether he would give me Binder Pharma Group and Brightstar Entertainment.”

Both Daisy and Hector were stunned.

Daisy let out a helpless smile. “I thought you wanted to learn piano, painting, or maybe some foreign languages.”
Victoria shook her head. “Mom, you’re underestimating me. What’s the point of just knowing those things? I want everything the Binder family owns.”
She said plainly, “Didn’t Dad say today he won’t back down anymore? That he’ll fight for what belongs to us?”
Hector nodded. “That’s right. Your mom and I didn’t care about the assets before. But now it’s different. With you here, I have to fight for your future.”
Victoria smiled. “Exactly. Same for me. The only way to secure our future is to take control of everything.”
Hector and Daisy exchanged a look and smiled. They had underestimated her. She hadn’t come back to be protected. She had come back to take control.
Night had already fallen. Jackson had just returned home when a voice called out to him from behind. “Jackson, where did you go? Why are you back so late?”
He signaled Ollie to turn the wheelchair. Cassian stood there. Sibley was right beside him.
Sibley looked at Jackson, and there was something strange in her eyes–something like quiet satisfaction.
Jackson ignored it. He smiled faintly. “I went out to get some air.”
Cassian glanced at his legs, concern written on his face, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “You should go out less. What if something happens again?”
Sibley stepped forward, looking guilty. “This is all my fault. If you hadn’t gone to save me, your legs wouldn’t be like this.”
She paused, then added carefully, “Your engagement to Miss Binder is supposed to be announced at the party next Saturday. After what happened, I’m not sure if the Binder family will still agree to the marriage.”
She lowered her voice slightly. “There are rumors going around now. People are saying you didn’t just lose the use of your legs. They say you also lost the ability to have children.
“If that’s true, then you’ll have to give up your position as the Thornton family’s heir.”
