“Larry?!” Lexi was genuinely surprised.

“Exactly,” Victoria continued. “Like you said, your dad’s illegitimate son just loves to do the opposite of whatever you want. If you say you want Stephen, he’ll definitely push your dad to choose Larry instead.”

Lexi pointed out, “But Larry is a top actor with a stellar reputation and a massive fanbase. If he gets cast as the male lead, my dad’s new show will at least get some buzz.”

Victoria said, “That’s exactly the effect we’re after. Larry is a big name, squeaky clean, tons of fans, huge influence. If he ends up in a scandal, it’ll shake the whole entertainment industry, and Rising to the Top will crash and burn right along with him.”

Lexi still doubted it. “If Larry really had some earth–shattering dirt, it would’ve come out ages ago. How could nobody have dug up anything that could threaten his status after all this time?”

“That’s only because he’s hidden it well enough,” Victoria replied.

Lexi still felt a bit skeptical, but she chose to trust Victoria anyway.

“Got it,” Lexi said.

“But what about you? Are you really sure about this? Are you willing to do whatever it takes, even if it means the company takes a huge hit, just to take control of Gale Entertainment?” Victoria asked.

Lexi’s voice was unwavering. “Gale Entertainment was built by my mom and dad together. But when it finally succeeded, everyone credited my dad, saying it was all his achievement, and that my mom was just enjoying the good life.”

“But what happiness did she actually get? She worked side by side with my dad, pulling all–nighters, dealing with clients, pouring her heart and soul into the company, and ended up with all sorts of health issues.”

“Just when everyone thought her hard work was finally paying off, she found out my dad had a mistress and a son with her- the boy was only three years younger than me. The shock and anger made her sick, and she couldn’t hold on for long.”

“Honestly, if she’d gotten proper treatment, she could’ve slowly recovered. But that mistress couldn’t wait. The company was thriving, she’d given birth to a son, and she wanted to take my mom’s place right away. So she deliberately revealed herself to my mom, and that’s when my mom’s condition worsened. She passed away not long after.”

“A week after my mom died, my dad brought that woman and his illegitimate son home. How could I possibly stand that?” Lexi’s heart was filled with hatred as she spoke.

“Right before my mom passed away, she transferred all her shares in the company to me. Her only instruction was that, even if it killed me, I could never let the company fall into the hands of my father’s illegitimate son,” Lexi said.

“So if I can’t have Gale Entertainment, then I’ll see it go down in flames! No way am I letting my father’s illegitimate son take the fruits of my mom’s hard work!”

Lexi nearly ground out the last words through gritted teeth.

Victoria said, “I understand. Since you’re this determined, I’m willing to work with you. But I don’t do losing deals. My condition is simple: after I help you deal with your dad’s illegitimate son, you have to sell me all your shares in Gale Entertainment at market price.”

Lexi knew Victoria was planning to acquire Gale Entertainment.

Victoria gave her a heads–up, “My people say Nathan Clark tracked down Angelica and took her away. So Angelica might’ve already spilled the beans to Nathan about how you helped me get her out before. You need to watch Nathan closely.”

“If anything feels off, let me know ASAP. Word is, he’s been up to some pretty risky stuff lately.”

Lexi paused, a little stunned, then said, “Got it. I’ll be careful. I know you’re gunning for the Clark family, so I’ll try to dig up some real evidence on Nathan for you.”

Victoria said, “Leave the evidence to me. Just make sure you keep yourself safe.”

“Alright,” Lexi replied. Suddenly, she felt a lump in her throat. It had been ages since anyone cared about her, and she never thought she’d feel this kind of warmth from a woman she’d barely known.

In the chairman’s office at Gale Entertainment, only Justin and his son Timothy were left.

Timothy frowned at his father, his tone firm. “Dad, about the new drama Rising to the Top, I don’t think we should go with Stephen as the male lead, like Lexi suggested.”

Justin looked at his son in surprise. He hadn’t expected Timothy to have such a strong opinion about the casting. “Why? You’re not just disagreeing with your sister for the sake of it, are you?” he asked.

Timothy quickly shook his head and said, “Dad, I’m not the kind of person who acts on impulse. It’s just that Lexi came all the way here just to push for Stephen as the male lead, there’s got to be something going on.”

‘I’m worried she might be interested in him, and if they get close during the show and Nathan finds out, we’ll be in real trouble. I’m only thinking about what’s best for the company.”

Justin listened and nodded, looking a bit pensive..

He had to admit Timothy’s concerns were valid. Nathan had a lot of sway over their family’s business, and if they messed up the casting and ended up offending him, the marriage deal could fall apart and that would be a disaster.

‘You’re right,” Justin said. “Especially at this critical moment, we absolutely can’t afford to offend Nathan, and we can’t let this marriage deal go south.”

He paused for a moment, then continued, “Here’s what we’ll do. Go check out Stephen’s background and reputation, see what kind of person he really is. If there’s anything questionable about him, we’ll reconsider who should play the male lead.”

Gale Entertainment was basically living off its past glory. On paper, it was still one of Benwig City’s oldest entertainment companies, but in reality, it was struggling to keep up with all the new players flooding the industry.

But if they could rely on the Clark family, with their investment, plus help in acquiring smaller entertainment companies, and gaining access to top resources and Gale Entertainment could finally secure its place at the top.

“Got it,” Timothy replied.

Justin looked pleased. “Timothy, looks like you’ve really grown up. I feel good about handing the company over to you someday.”

Timothy said, “With you having such high hopes for me, Dad, there’s no way I’ll let you down.”

Justin smiled, feeling content. If his daughter married Nathan and his son took over the company, he’d finally feel like his life was complete.
