When Curtis brought up Nathan, Lexi’s expression turned icy.
She scoffed, “Nathan? What does he have to do with any of this? Honestly, I don’t even care about him–it’s you I can’t stand. Your real sister was switched at birth and spent twenty years suffering, but instead of trying to make it up to her, you let Angelica, the adopted daughter, play you like a fool and hurt your own family.”
“In the end, you got tossed out of the Binder family with nothing. And now you’re actually thinking about ditching Brightstar Entertainment, your family’s company, just to run over to Gale Entertainment? Curtis, you’re a complete joke.” She said.
With that, Lexi shoved Curtis out of her way and headed down the hallway to the right.
After Curtis steadied himself, he slowly unclenched his fists.
Lexi was right–he really was a joke.
But he didn’t have time to dwell on it. He was determined to make it big, and fast–so Victoria would never be able to ignore him again.
With that in mind, Curtis turned and strode straight to Marty’s office. He told Marty about the penalty he’d have to pay to break his contract with Brightstar Entertainment.
Marty looked a bit troubled. “I’ll need to check with Mr. Lowe first. He’s actually in the office right now. Come with me, and be respectful–show him you’re really eager for this opportunity, so he knows you truly want to make it big.”
The word “beg” made Curtis feel uneasy, but for the sake of his big break, he forced himself to swallow his pride and replied, “Alright.”
Marty was pleased with Curtis’s attitude, so he brought him straight to Justin’s office and explained the situation about the penalty Curtis would have to pay to break his contract.
Besides Lexi, there was also a young man in the chairman’s office.
Hearing Marty lay it out, Lexi rolled her eyes. “Three million dollars just to break his contract? Curtis is nothing but a scandal–ridden has–been. Is he really worth it? Dad, seriously, don’t waste any more resources on him–he’s not worth the trouble.”
‘Damn it, does she have to rub it in?‘ Curtis felt his chest tighten with anger as Lexi’s words hit him.
Honestly, Justin wasn’t too keen on throwing away three million dollars for nothing.
But the young man contradicted Lexi, saying, “Dad, I actually think it’s worth a try. Like Marty, I see real potential in Curtis. Isn’t Victoria planning to release a new song? If her track turns out to be the top chart hit of the year, Brightstar Entertainment will grab the limelight and show us up all over again.”
Lexi shot a look at the young man who’d just spoken.
The young man gave her a smug little smirk.
Marty jumped in, “Mr. Lowe, I spent years at Brightstar Entertainment, so I know Curtis pretty well. He’s got real talent, and honestly, talent is hard to come by these days. It’s tough to find a singer who can write their own songs. If we put some effort into promoting Curtis, he’ll bring in way more than the three million we’d spend on his penalty.”
After saying that, Marty gave Curtis a pointed look.

Curtis remembered what Marty had told him, so he swallowed his pride and begged, “Mr. Lowe, I really hope you’ll give me a chance. I promise I won’t let you down.”
Marty quickly added, “If you’re still worried, Mr. Lowe, we can spell it out in the contract–every cent Curtis makes at first goes straight to paying back the penalty the company covers for him. After that, the company takes 80%, he gets 20%. With terms like that, there’s no way Gale Entertainment can lose.”
The young man chimed in, “Dad, let’s be real–most of the singers under our label are either has–beens or just internet stars who only know how to churn out catchy but shallow songs. When it comes to real talent, none of them can hold a candle to Curtis.”
Justin listened to Marty, clearly interested. He looked at Marty and said, “Alright, since my son is on board and you’re willing to vouch for Curtis, I’ll trust you one more time.”
“But I’ve already arranged for my son to work at the company, so from now on, anything to do with Curtis goes through him. It’ll be good for him to get some hands–on experience managing things.”
Marty nodded quickly. “Got it, Mr. Lowe. I understand.”
Just then, Lexi suddenly cut in, “Dad, so what about me?”
Justin glanced at her, looking a bit confused. “What do you mean?”
Lexi answered earnestly, “I want in too–I want to work at the company.”
Justin’s face instantly turned impatient. He waved his hand dismissively. “Why would you want to join the company? You’re already one of our artists, and you’re about to marry Nathan. Just settle into the Clark family and enjoy your life as Mrs. Clark–leave the company management to your brother.”
Timothy couldn’t hide the smug look in his eyes. “Lexi, marrying Nathan is every woman’s dream. From now on, you can just be an elite heiress and live the good life–no need for you to work or be in the spotlight anymore. Leave the company business to me.”
Lexi’s eyes were filled with resentment, but she didn’t press the issue. Instead, she switched topics. “I came here today to ask -has the male lead been chosen yet?”
Justin replied, “Kevin still hasn’t made a decision.”
Lexi pressed, “I heard Director Zhang is struggling to choose between Stephen and Larry.”
Curtis was no stranger to those names.
Stephen was a trending young idol, but in just two years since his debut, he’d already been frequently making headlines for his bad temper.
Larry, on the other hand, was a top actor–well–respected in the industry, and never a single scandal or rumor since he first stepped into the spotlight.
Justin looked puzzled. “What’s your take on it?”
Lexi didn’t hesitate. “I want to pick Stephen.”
Curtis frowned. When it came to reputation, Larry was much more respected in the industry.
“Why would Lexi specifically recommend Stephen?‘ Curtis thought to himself.
Justin looked puzzled. “What’s your reason?”
