ackson answered without a second thought, “Okay. Do whatever you need to do.”

fter learning the cruel truth that his own brother wanted him dead, Jackson felt like there was nothing left he couldn’t ndure.
ictoria looked at him, a hint of admiration flickering in her eyes. “The man I chose is truly exceptional.”
reating his legs took more than just skill. It required his full cooperation and a strong will. Jackson’s attitude satisfied her.
ackson clearly enjoyed hearing that. A faint smile touched his eyes, and he didn’t seem concerned at all about how painful he treatment might be.
ictoria set down the treatment kit and several jars of medicinal powder on the stone table. Then she lowered her head and ently rolled up his pant leg.
nowing he was getting treatment today, Jackson had purposely worn loose, casual pants.
ictoria glanced at his leg and said offhandedly, “Your leg hair is kind of sexy.”
ackson froze for a second, caught off guard. Not far away, Ollie almost burst out laughing.
ackson coughed awkwardly, then smiled. “As long as you like it.”
Victoria raised a brow, her hands still moving. After rolling up his pant leg, she reached back for a needle and sterilized it with alcohol. “Yeah, I like it. If I didn’t, do you think I would’ve agreed to get engaged to you?”
fearing that, Jackson asked, “Has your family explained the marriage arrangement to you clearly?”
Victoria kept her head down, focused on her work. “Yeah. My grandpa brought it up this morning. He said since I’m the linder family’s real daughter, I should be the one to marry you.
I agreed. He told me to spend more time with you when I can.”
ackson nodded without hesitation. “Your grandfather’s right. We should spend more time together and get to know each
ther better?
Aren’t we already doing that?” Victoria asked. “At least until your legs are healed, we’ll be seeing each other every day.”
ackson looked down at her as she worked, his tone half–teasing. “So once my legs are healed, we won’t be seeing each other every day anymore, huh?”
Victoria let out a soft laugh. “That’s not what I meant. If you feel like we haven’t spent enough time together after your legs are healed, we can just move up the wedding. Then we’ll see each other every day.”
Jackson smiled. “That’s exactly what I was thinking”
Gradually, the pain started to spread through his legs. It felt like his bones were being crushed one by one.
He endured it and didn’t show anything, but he lost interest in talking-
Victoria noticed. She glanced up at him from time to time. “If it gets too bad, you don’t have to hold it in. I have painkillers.”
Jackson shook his head. His face had already turned pale. “No. I want to remember this pain.”

Off to the side, Simon watched the two of them. At first, he didn’t understand what he was seeing. But slowly, it clicked.
He found it strange. Jackson hadn’t known Victoria long, yet he treated her so well. There was clear patience and affection in his tone and the way he looked at her.
With Angelica, Jackson had always been polite and proper. Gentle, yes, but distant.
Simon couldn’t help wondering if Jackson actually liked Victoria more and had no interest in Angelica at all. But the next second, he dismissed the thought.
He believed that Jackson was probably pinning all his hopes for recovery on Victoria. Given his status, he had seen all kinds of women. There was no way he would truly fall for someone like her.
As he thought that, Simon kept watching Victoria. She worked with full focus, careful and steady. But inside, he still looked down on her.
He had heard from Curtis that she was nothing more than some village healer. So many world–famous doctors had examined Jackson’s legs, and none of them dared say they could cure him. Yet she had the nerve to believe she could.
If anything, Simon believed that she might make things worse.
And once she failed, once Jackson realized she was useless, he wouldn’t be nearly as patient with her anymore.
Three hours later. Victoria finished the treatment. After wrapping Jackson’s knee joints with bandages soaked in medicinal powder, she finally straightened up and stretched. “That’s it for today.”
As she spoke, she looked at the beads of sweat covering Jackson’s forehead. She genuinely admired his endurance. The process had been brutally painful.
The more she saw, the more certain she felt that choosing to marry him had been the right call.
ackson wiped the sweat from his forehead, then rubbed his legs, The stiffness in his knees seemed to have eased a little.
If they really can be fully healed in three months, how about we set the wedding for three months from now?” he asked.
Victoria sat back down on the stone bench, carefully disinfecting her tools. “I’m fine with that. I’m just worried you’ll regret it once your legs are healed.”
She didn’t actually worry about that at all. She always made sure she had a backup plan.
ackson looked at her, serious. “Don’t say that. I’ve already decided. It’s you, for the rest of my life.”
That answer satisfied Victoria. She packed up her tools with a bright smile on her face. “Then it’s settled. We’ll have the wedding in three months, right after your legs are healed.”
Seeing how quickly she agreed, Jackson watched her, a faint smile in his eyes.
Before, marriage had only ever been a tool to him. It didn’t matter who he married, as long as it satisfied his father and grandfather and benefited the family.
He had never expected to actually look forward to it one day, to look forward to a life with someone.

“How did you meet Jackson?” Simon asked from the back seat on the way home.
Victoria kept her eyes on the road, glancing at his reluctant expression through the rearview mirror. “He came looking for me. He fell for me. He wants to marry me.”
Simon let out a cold laugh. “You don’t actually think he wants to marry you for real, do you? His legs are crippled now. He doesn’t want to drag Angelica down, so he picked you instead. You’re just his backup.”
Victoria said calmly, “Oh, is that so? Funny. You were the ones who brought me back so I could marry Jackson in Angelica’s place, weren’t you? Now that I’ve agreed, you’re not happy about it.”
Simon didn’t deny it. He knew exactly why they had brought her back. It was so she could marry Jackson instead of Angelica. And he hadn’t objected.
There was no way he would let Angelica marry a man whose legs were already crippled.
Besides, whether Jackson could still become the Thornton family heir after his disability was uncertain.
Victoria, on the other hand, had never lived a good life. Being able to marry someone of Jackson’s status was already a huge
troke of luck for her.
Victoria smiled slightly. “How about I go talk to Grandpa and suggest we let Angelica marry Jackson after all?”
Then she let out a soft laugh. “Even if she wanted to now, Jackson wouldn’t agree. It’s obvious he likes me. He’s not interested
n her at all.”
