Chapter 35
Donald shot Sibley a stern look and lowered his voice. “Sibley, I’m talking to Jackson. Mind your manners.”
Sibley nodded and pulled a face.
It looked like a scolding, but it was really protection.
Donald turned back to Jackson. “Are you really sure you want to marry the Binder family’s real heiress?”

Jackson pulled his gaze back and answered calmly, “I am. I was going to marry a Binder daughter either way. Since Angelica isn’t one of them, there’s no reason for me to marry her.”
Donald glanced at Cassian, a faint trace of amusement hidden in his eyes, then nodded. “Alright. Since you’ve made up your mind, we’ll attend the welcome party tomorrow night and show our support.”
A subtle smile passed through Cassian’s eyes. To him, Jackson was already finished. With his crippled legs and his marriage to some so–called heiress with no real ability, there was nothing left to fear.
Donald added, “By the way, I heard from Sibley that yesterday she misspoke, and you had Ollie punish her. Is that true?”
ackson hadn’t expected him to bring that up. “It is. Do you think it was wrong for me to teach her some manners?”
Donald’s expression turned displeased. “No matter what, Sibley is your sister. She’s part of the Thornton family. She just poke without thinking. Why make such a big deal out of it and have Ollie punish her?”
Dad, don’t forget. Sibley is just someone you took in for Cassian’s sake. She’s not your biological daughter,” Jackson said evenly.
Sibley’s face darkened.
Donald didn’t look much better. “She may not be my biological daughter, but she once did Cassian a great favor. She grew ip with him.
After all these years, I’ve long treated her like my own. You shouldn’t have had Ollie lay a hand on her. She’s been upset ever
ince.
Apologize to her now. And as for Ollie, he’s just an assistant, yet he dared to hit my daughter. That’s crossing the line. From now on, he’s not staying by your side. I don’t trust him around you.”
Sibley looked at Jackson with open smugness. “Jackson, if you apologize, I’ll forgive you.”
Ollie glanced at Jackson but said nothing.
ackson’s eyes darkened as he looked at Donald. After a long moment of silence, he said, “My legs were crippled because I saved Sibley. And yet she keeps saying things I don’t like to hear right in front of me.
Whether she means it or not, if I don’t teach her a lesson, she might never learn.”
Sibley pouted. “Jackson, how can you think I’d do that on purpose?”
Donald frowned, impatience clear in his voice. “Sibley has always been straightforward. Why take it so seriously? I’m only asking you to apologize.
‘Maybe she’s right. Ever since your legs were injured, you’ve become too sensitive. Besides getting doctors to treat your legs. we should also hire a good psychologist to help you.”

Jackson stared at Donald, his gaze sharp. Seeing that Donald had no intention of backing down, he let out a quiet, cold laugh. “Sibley, come here.”
Thinking he had finally given in, Sibley walked over, full of triumph. “Make it sincere, or I won’t accept it.”
The moment she got close, Jackson called out calmly, “Ollie.”
Before Sibley could react, Ollie grabbed her wrist, pulled her forward, and slapped her hard across the face.
The sound echoed sharply. Sibley froze, stunned. She hadn’t expected Jackson to dare do this right in front of Donald.
Cassian shot to his feet in shock. Donald’s face darkened instantly. “Jackson, what are you doing?”
Jackson didn’t even blink. His voice remained calm. “That slap was for running to Dad to complain about me. She’s just an adopted daughter, yet she has no sense of her place.”
He lifted his hand slightly. “Ollie, go on.”
Another slap landed on Sibley’s other cheek. The force sent her stumbling backward, right to Donald’s feet.
Jackson continued, his tone steady, “That one was for mocking my legs in front of Dad.”
Tears streamed down Sibley’s face as she clutched her cheeks. “Dad, you saw that. He’s gone too far.”
Donald helped her up, his face full of anger as he glared at Jackson. “Enough! Ever since your legs were crippled, your temper has gotten worse. You don’t even listen to me anymore. No one can control you now.”
Sibley covered her face, staring at Jackson with pure hatred, as if she wanted to tear him apart.
Jackson remained completely unmoved. A faint smile touched his lips. “Dad, don’t forget. The only reason you have any standing in this family now is because of what I achieved for you in front of Grandfather. Without me, you were nothing here.”
The words were blunt, leaving Donald with no way to recover. His expression turned grim.
Jackson went on, calm as ever, “Do you think that just because my legs are crippled, I’m useless? Yes, you’ve gained some authority. But do you think you can abandon me and let Cassian take over everything I’ve built?”
Cassian quickly chimed in, “Jackson, you’ve misunderstood Dad. He would never think that.”
Jackson gave a faint smile. His voice was soft, but every word carried weight. “No matter what you think, remember this. As long as I’m alive, I can take everything from you at any time.”
He paused, then added, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going. I have a chess game with Grandfather tonight.”
Then he looked at Cassian, a meaningful smile in his eyes. “By the way, Cassian, you’ve been back for three years now. It’s funny how you still haven’t played a single game of chess with Grandfather, isn’t it?”
Before Cassian could respond, Ollie had already pushed Jackson out of the hall.
Outside, the night air was cool. Jackson looked up at the distant sky, his expression cold.
Then he said calmly, “Ollie, have someone quietly look into my father. I want to confirm what kind of relationship he really has with Sibley.”

Ollie was stunned. “You want to investigate your father and Sibley, huh?”
Jackson glanced at him. “Yes.”
Ollic quickly nodded. “Understood.”

Jackson’s eyes turned colder. Back then, Cassian had been sent away by his grandfather because a fortune teller said Cassian brought bad luck.
But now, the more Jackson thought about it, the less simple it seemed.
He couldn’t understand how Cassian could go so far–hiring someone to kill him–just to fight for the position of heir.
And Donald’s attitude toward Sibley was even stranger.
She was just an adopted daughter who had only been in the family for three years. Yet Donald was so protective of her.
