Chapter 374
When Simon arrived at the apartment Curtis had rented, he heard Darell’s hysterical roar, like a dying beast’s scream, echoing in his ears.
“You useless idiot! How could you fail? Weren’t you the professional killer Nathan hired, the one who claims a 100% success rate? And you can’t even beat a woman! You’re a fucking waste of space…”
Simon’s steps froze in the darkness of the entryway, his heart seized by an icy grip.
A bad premonition slithered up his spine like a cold snake.
“Hey, Simon, you’re here. Looks like the whole Binder family is finally together,” Victoria said, standing by the door and turning when she heard his footsteps.
After speaking, she pushed Jackson’s wheelchair out of the way, making room for Simon to enter.
Simon took a deep breath and nearly stumbled into the glaringly bright living room.
Under the icy glare of the crystal chandelier, everything was laid bare. There was nowhere to hide.
Calvin gripped his cane, his face stormy with rage, chest heaving. “You monster… How could you do something so heartless and unforgivable!”
Curtis locked his gaze on his father, his eyes blazing with disbelief and the agony of near collapse.
In the corner, a blond guy was tied up, battered, and bloodied.
Simon’s eyes finally settled on his father, Darell.
Darell’s clothes were a mess, his shoulder wounded. Right now, he looked like a crazed beast, howling in despair at Calvin, his voice raw and broken with rage.
“Dad! All because of that disgraceful daughter, Victoria, look at what you’ve done to our family! If you hadn’t been so heartless, I never would’ve ended up like this!” Darell shouted.
His bloodshot eyes nearly popped out, his finger shaking as he pointed at Simon. “Look at him! My son, the so–called heir of the Binder family! And now? He’s groveling at Victoria’s feet every day, acting like a dog just to get back into the Binder family! Does he have any dignity left? They’re not just humiliating me. They’re dragging the whole Binder family’s name through the mud!”
Curtis locked his gaze on Darell, his eyes blazing with disbelief and pain. “Dad, why? She’s the mother of me and my brother–your first wife! How could you even think of having her killed?”
Darell erupted, his rage spilling over. “Why? I did it for you! So you two could reclaim your rightful place, live like you used to, above everyone else! So you could take back everything that was stolen from you!”
“So you’re going to sacrifice me for that?!” Julia couldn’t take it anymore. She stormed out of the room, eyes red and wild with tears, her voice cracking in hysteria as she confronted him.

Darell stared at Julia’s deathly pale face, his voice raw and desperate as he tried to defend himself. “You think I wanted any of this? Everything I did was for our sons‘ future! For our little family to finally rise again! Look at yourself. What are you even capable of now, huh?!”
His words struck Julia’s heart like a venomous whip, cutting deep and leaving her reeling.
“Remember how we used to beg your family for help? The way your brother and sister–in–law looked down on us? Even the servants rolled their eyes at us! Tell me, what use are you to this family now? Nothing! You’re nothing but a burden, a dead weight dragging us down! A stumbling block in our way! Since you can’t do a damn thing.”
Darell sucked in a sharp breath, his face contorted with rage, and kept screaming.
“Then why not just throw caution to the wind? Use your life as a stepping stone for our sons! That’s all you’re worth now! Victoria–she’s a heartless monster, ruthless, and doesn’t care about anyone! As long as she’s around, our boys will never have a chance to rise! Only if she’s locked up for good, never seeing daylight again, can our sons claw their way back into the Binder family and reclaim what’s rightfully theirs! I’ll trade your life for that! I’ll set her up, make her carry the crime of matricide! This is a do–or–die gamble, a fight with our backs against the wall! Isn’t it worth it?!”
“Dad… I don’t need this… None of this is what I want…” Curtis felt the world spinning, his vision blurring and going dark, utterly drained as if all his strength had been sucked out of him.
The overwhelming sense of how messed up and sick this all was made his throat clench–he felt like he was about to throw up.
Simon stood in the shadows, his lips quivering, but he couldn’t get a single word out.
He instinctively wanted to look at his mother, but he couldn’t bear to see her despair. All he could do was clench his fists so hard that his nails dug deep into his palms, trying to ground himself with the physical pain,
inside. hoping it would drown out the agony
Smack!
The sharp sound of a slap shattered the suffocating silence.
Julia staggered up to Darell, barely keeping her balance.
She poured every ounce of strength into that slap–thirty years of marriage turned to ashes, and a bone–deep hatred from being cast aside like she never mattered.
Darell’s head snapped to the side, his cheek instantly swelling and turning red.
Julia let out a low, hollow laugh. In the deathly silent living room, the sound was particularly eerie, filled with a desperate, mocking bitterness.
Her laughter grew louder and sharper, finally morphing into a hysterical accusation.
“Darell, you really know how to dress it up, huh? Using my life to pave the way for your sons? Ha! I’ve been married to you for thirty years–thirty years! I gave you children, stuck by you through every rise and fall! And in the end…”

She abruptly stopped laughing, her bloodshot eyes locked onto Darell with venom, her voice rising so sharp it could cut glass. “In the end, to you, I’m just a stepping stone you can throw away whenever you feel like it?!”
She jabbed her finger right at Darell’s nose, her whole body trembling with rage and humiliation. “Darell! You heartless bastard! You’re not even human. You’re an absolute monster! You plotted against me… You actually wanted me dead! Ha! I must’ve been blind, blind for thirty whole years!”
“Enough!”
Calvin’s voice cut through the chaos–aged but full of authority–as he slammed his ebony cane hard against the floor. The deep lines on his face spoke of exhaustion and an icy, absolute resolve.
He turned his gaze to Victoria, who stood calm and unshaken, as if she were just a spectator to the drama, the one he’d handpicked to carry the Binder family’s legacy.
“Victoria,” Calvin said, his voice tinged with a weary sense of finality, “Darell’s done something so despicable, so outrageous, even the gods would be furious. The evidence is all there–witnesses, proof, everything. Don’t bother asking this old man’s opinion anymore. Once the sun comes up, take him, the hitman, and all the evidence straight to the cops.”
“Dad! You can’t do this! You can’t send me to jail!” Darell looked like he’d been struck by lightning. His face drained from furious red to a ghostly pale, leaving nothing but sheer, soul–crushing terror.
He suddenly dropped to his knees at Calvin’s feet, clutching his father’s leg like a lifeline, howling in desperation.
“Dad! Please, just hear me out! It wasn’t me, I swear! Nathan was the one who brought in the hitman! He made me do it! The whole scheme was his idea! I was just…just tricked and pushed by him! Dad, you have to believe me! I’m your son! You can’t just abandon me like this, Dad!”
