Victoria chuckled. “Do you really think a country bumpkin like me could be the boss of the Global Talent Alliance?”

“Of course, I believe it. You’ve got what it takes,” Jackson said seriously.

Victoria asked, “So, how much do you actually know about the biggest alliance in the world?”

Jackson replied, “Four years ago, a mysterious organization suddenly popped up in Cordonia. Most of its members came from all walks of life, but they were all world–class geniuses. In just a few years, they made a name for themselves globally because they controlled major fields like biotech, cutting–edge tech, finance, and even arts and literature. They even set up the Institute for Human Civilization Progress, leading big projects in AI and more.”

“Word is, the boss is a young woman. People in the know are guessing she’s the daughter of some high- ranking official from Cordonia, backed by the military, which is how she managed to build such an organization,” he went on.

“Honestly, nobody would ever imagine that the boss of the world’s biggest alliance is actually you, Vickie–the village healer selling remedies.”

“I’ve also heard the Global Talent Alliance pulls together resources from different countries, deals with global emergencies, and even has enforcement and disciplinary powers, like tracking down fugitives and upholding order.”

Jackson spoke at length, his words filled with admiration.

Victoria chuckled. “You really know a lot.”

She smiled and said, “Honestly, when I first started this organization, it was because I felt that all those hidden talents out there never really got a chance to shine.”

“But then I realized that just having them do ordinary jobs for commissions was wasting their potential. So I had them focus on global issues and step up to help solve them. That’s how we gradually earned our reputation worldwide,” she continued.

“Plenty of countries tried to rope us in for their own agendas, but I always refused. I didn’t want this group to be anyone’s lapdog, fighting wherever they pointed. I want it to be a sword hanging over the world, ready to strike down evil wherever it shows up.”

Victoria’s last words echoed with fierce determination.

That explained why Vickie wasn’t afraid to cross the Clark family. She was even out to take them down. Thinking about it, Jackson chuckled. “Darell’s situation is all sorted out, so I won’t be going back to the Binder family with you.”

Victoria joked, “Alright, not like we can sleep together yet anyway.”

After leaving the rental house and getting into the car, Jackson looked out the window.

Ollie, sitting in the driver’s seat, said, “I never would’ve guessed Ms. Binder was the boss of the world’s biggest talent alliance. No wonder when you personally tried to recruit those geniuses for yourself, they all turned you down. Turns out they’d already pledged their loyalty to Ms. Binder”

Jackson replied, “Yeah, but Vickie’s vision is way more inspiring for them to follow.”

Vickie built this organization for the talents themselves and for the good of society.

Jackson just wanted to bring them in to boost his own power and that of the Thornton family.

When he was trying to recruit talent, he found that some of the people he had his eye on actually turned down his tempting offers.

Ollie did some digging and found out they’d all joined the same organization.

After that, Jackson gave up on trying to recruit them and just became friends with them instead.

These friends ended up helping him out in all sorts of ways.

“Ollie, do you think I’m good enough for Vickie?” Jackson asked quietly.

His voice was so soft, but it caught Ollie off guard. He nearly pressed the gas too hard.

“Sir, you really shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. Ms. Binder never cared about that stuff. If she did, she wouldn’t have said yes when you went to the village to ask for her hand. And honestly, you’re not missing anything. In all of Benwig, is there anyone who can hold a candle to you? Back when you could still walk, every girl wanted to be with you,” he replied.

Honestly, Ollie was the one who should feel even more embarrassed. Back then, he thought Victoria was just some small–town herbalist with a bit of skill. How could she ever be a match for Jackson?

But now…

It wasn’t that he thought Jackson wasn’t good enough for Victoria; it was just…

Jackson liked Victoria, so he would surely want to be worthy of her and even become someone she could rely

Jackson lowered his head and ran his hand over his legs. If he hadn’t been sure they could still be healed, and if he’d learned the truth about who Vickie really was, he probably would’ve lost his nerve and thought he didn’t deserve her.

He needed to push himself even harder.

His long–term goal? To become the richest man on the planet.

But for now, he had to lock down his spot as the Thornton family heir.

Otherwise, if he had nothing, how could he ever hope to walk through life side by side with Vickie?

Chapter 376

Victoria was up at six in the morning, since she had to see Calvin and the folks from the village off.

After washing up and heading downstairs, she found Daisy and Hector already waiting for her.

“Let’s go see your grandpa off,” Hector said.

“Okay,” Victoria replied.

On the way, Hector said, “After everything that’s happened, your grandpa must be hurting inside. But Victoria, we all know it’s not your fault. Darell brought this on himself, so you don’t need to feel guilty about it.”

Victoria smiled. “Don’t worry, Dad. I’m not going to beat myself up over it, or think I shouldn’t have come back to the Binder family.”

She added, “If I hadn’t come back, how could I ever be your daughter?”

Daisy smiled. “That’s right. The two luckiest things in my life were meeting your dad and going with him to bring you back to the Binder family.”

When they arrived at Calvin’s place, Victoria looked at him and said, “Grandpa, we’ve come to see you off.” Calvin looked even more worn out than the night before. He managed a weak smile. “Okay.”

“Dad, where are you going?” Sirena’s surprised voice called out from upstairs.

Calvin didn’t say a word. He just got up with his cane and said, “Let’s go.”

Seeing that no one was paying her any attention, Sirena held back her frustration but still followed after them.

“Dad,” she called out.

When they reached the front of Silverwood Villa, the folks were already packed up and waiting with their luggage. As soon as they saw Victoria, Stephan and the others called out.

“Morning, Victoria!”

“Don’t forget to come back and visit your grandpa and us when you have time!”

Victoria nodded. “Of course. You all have to come back for my wedding, okay?”

They all burst out laughing. “You got it!”

Sirena, trailing behind, realized what was happening. “Dad, are you going to the village with them?”

Calvin just grunted. He wanted to ask if she even knew what Darell was planning, but in the end, he simply said, “Sirena, you’d better look after yourself.”

With that, he got into his own car.

The folks all piled onto the same bus that had brought them here.

Once Calvin and the villagers were on the bus, Daisy and Hector went back to Goldenwood Villa.

Sirena turned to Victoria, plastering on a fake smile and pretending to be all friendly. “Hey Victoria, why’s your grandpa suddenly moving to the village?”

Victoria shot Sirena a bright smile. “Well, your brother’s about to get thrown in prison, and Grandpa just can’t handle it. So he’s heading to the village to retire and take it easy.”
