Chapter 408

But when Gerry heard Xavier’s words, he slammed his coffee cup down hard. “This is nonsense! You really think Jackson is behind this to stir up some family drama?”

Seeing Gerry so angry, Xavier froze, not daring to utter a single word,

After a while, he gritted his teeth and said, still not willing to back down, “Grandpa, even if Jackson didn’t do it himself. there’s no way he’s not mixed up in this whole contraband and seizure mess!”

Xavier raised his voice, then shot Jackson a piercing glare, but Jackson just sat there, cool as ever.

Gerry said, “Alright, then explain; how is Jackson supposed to be involved?”

Xavier snorted. “Grandpa, you’ve always favored Jackson. You’re just pretending you don’t know.”

Jackson, who had been silent this whole time, finally spoke up in a calm tone. “So, Xavier, you’re saying I might’ve pissed off some big shot and dragged the company into this mess?”

Xavier’s eyes bulged with anger. “Isn’t that exactly what happened? Just look at Victoria; she’s practically turning Benwig City upside down these days!

“She wouldn’t dare jump around causing chaos if she didn’t have your backing! If she wasn’t engaged to you, would she really have the nerve to go against the Clark family openly?”

He added, “And now, she’s even gone online and publicly called out the big shot behind the Clark family!

“Jackson, don’t say I didn’t warn you. The Thornton family and the Clark family have always been at each other’s throats, but we’ve managed to keep things civil all these years.

“The only reason you haven’t been able to crush them is that you know they’ve got someone powerful backing them up!”

He continued, “But now? Victoria just ran straight into their line of fire! If you didn’t do it, then it must be because Victoria pissed off that big shot! And look, they’re already making their move to put us in our place!”

“Calm down,” Gerry said, seeing how worked up Xavier was. He signaled for the butler to pour Xavier a cup of coffee.

Xavier didn’t dare go against Gerry, so he grabbed the cup and downed the coffee in one gulp.

Jackson half-smirked, not quite smiling. “So, you figured out it’s the big shot behind the Clark family messing with us behind the scenes, huh?”

Xavier’s face turned grim. He clenched his jaw, forcing the words out through gritted teeth. “I’m just speculating. If it wasn’t you, who else could pull off something this big?”

But Jackson just leaned back, totally unfazed. “Whether it was me, someone else, or even Vickie stirring things up, the real issue is that you and Uncle Thomas just aren’t up to the task. That’s why you left such a huge opening for them to exploit.”

“Jackson!” Xavier finally snapped, roaring in anger.

But Jackson just chuckled, completely unfazed. “Honestly, you and Uncle Thomas have been so busy fighting over the heir position that you’ve totally neglected the company in Afriska. That’s probably why things have gotten so out of hand.

“Xavier, think about it; ever since I got injured three months ago you’ve been back here way too much.”

Xavier didn’t want to get dragged into Jackson’s rhythm, so he shot back, “Jackson, stop dodging the real issue!”

“I’m not dodging anything; I’m just calling it like it is,” Jackson replied coolly. “The Afriska business has been running

smoothly for ages, except for some chaos when we first started.

“But now, there’s a major screw-up. Shouldn’t you and Uncle Thomas be the first to reflect on yourselves and own up to your mistakes?”

Xavier roared, his voice echoing through the room, “Are you seriously saying this is my fault or my dad’s? It’s obviously because of your unruly fiancée, Victoria!” His words were laced with anger and accusation.

Jackson just stared at him, expressionless, and asked coolly, “So what do you want me to do?”

Xavier didn’t even hesitate. “Break off the engagement with Victoria! Put out a public statement and cut all ties with the Binder family!” His tone was firm, leaving no room for negotiation.

Jackson let out a low, mocking chuckle, a smirk playing on his lips.

“What’s so funny?” Xavier demanded, totally confused by Jackson’s reaction. Xavier glared at him, searching his face for any clue.

Jackson slowly raised his head, locking eyes with Xavier, his gaze cold and full of disdain. “I’m laughing at you; you’re nothing but a pathetic, small-minded fool.”

Xavier bristled at Jackson’s words, anger flaring instantly. “Jackson! You and Victoria are why the Thornton family is suffering, and

you still dare call me useless?” he shouted, his voice shaking with rage.

But Jackson didn’t even blink. He kept that cold stare locked on Xavier and said, slow and steady, “If you’re not useless, then what are you? If you ever took over the Thornton family, the Clark family would wipe the floor with us in no time. You’d end up like a stray dog, begging for scraps.”

Jackson’s words hit Xavier like a ton of bricks, leaving him totally stunned and unable to say a word. “Yeah, right, you act as if you could actually take down the Clark family’s big shot,” Xavier scoffed.

“If I didn’t have absolute confidence, would I have let Vickie go ahead with it?” Jackson replied coolly.

Xavier blinked, caught off guard. “You really think you can pull this off?” Then it hit him. “So you did this on purpose! You’re just playing us, trying to use someone else to take me and my dad out!”

Jackson replied, “It’s still because you and Uncle Thomas couldn keep things under control.”

Then he added, “You had my father snatched to threaten me, and I haven’t even called you out for playing dirty. And now you’re the one crying? If you’re gonna play rough, at least don’t complain when someone hits back.”

Xavier was so furious he couldn’t even get a word out. He turned to Gerry, his voice shaking with anger. “Grandpa, are you really just going to let Jackson sacrifice our Thornton family’s business for this?”

Gerry, deep in thought, asked, “Jackson, are you really sure you can use this opportunity to deal with the Clark family and the big shot backing them?”

Jackson replied seriously, “If it were before, I wouldn’t absolutely confident.”

Gerry was silent for a moment. “I understand.”

Gerry didn’t let him go on, dismissing him with a wave. “Enough It’s late. Head home, keep in close touch with your father. and get this sorted out as soon as possible.”

Not giving Xavier a chance to protest, Gerry got up and, leaning on Milton, made his way to the study.

Xavier, still seething, shot Jackson a glare. “I can’t wait to see you and Victoria make fools of yourselves!” With that, he stormed out, still fuming.

Xavier’s anger was still raging as he headed home. When he got to the front yard, he spotted someone standing quietly in the shadows; it was Gary.

Xavier stopped in his tracks, and for a moment, his anger eased up a bit. He slowed down, quickly pulled out his phone, and dialed Faye’s number.

As soon as the call went through, Xavier raised his voice on purpose, grumbling, “Of course, Grandpa’s still got a soft spot for Jackson!”

He kept going. “Jackson really knows how to win Grandpa over. He can even let go of the fact that Grandpa basically got his mom killed, all just to pull out all the stops and lock down the heir spot.”

Finally, he let out a deep sigh. “Man, Jackson’s mom really got the short end of the stick; she deserved way better.”
