Victoria caught the meaning behind Jackson’s words and smiled openly. “Yeah, I told my mom to make your favorites. After all, we’ve had lunch together so many times. I know what you like.”

Daisy and Hector shared a knowing look, then, with a bit of tact, went inside ahead of them.

“Let me do it, Ollie, Victoria said with a smile.

Ollie nodded and stepped aside. “Mr. Thornton, I’ll wait for you outside.”

Then, Victoria walked behind Jackson’s wheelchair and pushed him inside.

Jackson grinned. “You look pretty happy. Did you win the case?”

Victoria replied with a relaxed smile, “Yeah, thanks to the solid evidence you helped gather, we won without a doubt.”

She paused, then added, “But like you said before, we still don’t have any direct proof that the Clark family is pulling the strings at Antech Medical and Universal Medical.”

Jackson shrugged. “No big deal. Even if we can’t nail Nathan right now, after everything that’s happened, his nerves must be shot. The Clark family keeps running into trouble, and he can’t do a thing to stop me.

“I bet if Steven’s losing patience with him, he’ll probably throw Nathan under the bus and use him as a scapegoat.” Victoria nodded. “Exactly. Once Steven’s out of the picture, with all the dirt we’ve got, we could crush the Clarks in no time.” Honestly, the Clark family was nothing more than a means for Steven to wield power and secretly line his pockets.

If that tool ever threatened his own interests, Steven would cut the Clark family loose in a heartbeat. They were just a ticking time bomb to him.

Once inside, Victoria led the way and gently took Jackson’s arm. “Come on, let’s walk over to the sofa and you can sit down by yourself.”

“Okay,” Jackson said. He shifted his weight onto Victoria, slowly pulled himself up, then carefully put his weight back on his feet. Step by step, he made his way to the sofa, leaned forward, and eased himself down, steadying himself with the armrest.

She used to worry that if Jackson’s legs never healed, it would’ve been such a waste for Victoria to be with him.

Hector put his arm around Daisy, his eyes filled with pride and satisfaction.

“Let me get you some water to wash your hands. We’ll eat soon,” Victoria said as she got up and headed to the kitchen. After washing her own hands, she brought back a half–filled basin for Jackson.

Once Jackson finished washing up, Daisy quickly said, “Victoria, let me handle the water. You and Jack keep chatting.”

“Thanks, Mommy!” Victoria said with a bright smile, then sat down next to Jackson. She bent over, speared a half–cur strawberry with her fork, and held it up to his mouth.
