Simon let out a sigh of relief. “Angelica, I really owe you one this time. If we can get the rights to Viara’s last novel, I’ll be in your debt.”
Angelica couldn’t hide her pride. “Simon, I’m your sister. I’m happy to help. No need to mention debts.”
Curtis boasted, “Simon, don’t worry. With Angelica handling it, her friend will definitely do everything to convince Viara. I bet you’ll get the rights to Viara’s last novel at this meeting.”
With that, Curtis shoved his hands in his pockets and shot a mocking glance at Victoria inside the door. “With Viara’s IP as our starting point, Brightstar Entertainment is only going to get bigger and better.
“I’d really like to see if someone’s as good at wrecking things as she is at running her mouth–if she can actually mess up our business.”
Victoria let out a snort. “Wow, so sure of yourself, huh? Just one meeting and you’re already convinced Viara will hand over the rights to Brightstar Entertainment?”
Curtis sneered. “You think Angelica’s connections are just for show? She’s nothing like you. She actually knows people who matter. Since they’ve already agreed to meet, this deal is pretty much in the bag.”
He added with a sneer, “Seriously, what makes you think you can just shoot your mouth off and ruin our business? What, you know Viara too? You really think you can stop her from selling the last novel’s rights to Simon?”
Victoria nodded. “Yeah, I actually know her. And I can totally keep Viara from selling the rights to Simon.”
Curtis burst out laughing. “You? Know Viara? Come on, I could claim I know the King of Heaven! You’re just making stuff up.”
Victoria shrugged. “Whatever, don’t believe me if you don’t want to.”
Angelica smiled, a hint of provocation in her eyes. “Victoria, I get it. You want to prove you’re better than me at everything. Sure, you won last night. But connections aren’t built in a day.
“You’ve been living out in the village, so most of the people you know are farmers, right? How would you ever get the chance to meet someone as famous as Viara?”
“So what if they’re farmers? Farmers count as connections too. Who are you looking down on, exactly? If you’re so noble, then maybe you should stop eating rice,” Victoria replied with a cold sneer.
Angelica figured Victoria was just being stubborn and didn’t bother arguing back. She turned to Simon, looking confused. “Why did you come to see Victoria?”
Before Simon could answer, Victoria kicked a bag in the corner. “Simon’s coming over tomorrow to help me loosen the soil and do some weeding. He dropped off the tools ahead of time.”
Angelica’s expression grew complicated. “Simon, why are you helping Victoria out with farm work? And it’s not even something simple. It’s heavy labor, like tilling the soil…”
She paused, then gave a wry smile. “Is this your way of asking for Victoria’s forgiveness? But wasn’t it Victoria who injured your right leg…”
Simon quickly shook his head. “Angelica, that’s not it.”
Angelica let out a quiet sigh of relief, then put on a fake sympathetic face. “So you’re actually worried Victoria might ruin
your business? Relax, Simon. I’m telling you, getting Viara’s last novel rights is basically guaranteed tomorrow.”
Simon really didn’t know how to even start explaining the whole poisoning thing, so he just switched topics. “Angelica, that’s a long story. It’s late, and Mom and Dad are probably waiting for us to eat. Let’s get going.”
Victoria snorted, “What, scared you’ll embarrass yourself in front of your good little sister? Relax, she’s so kind and obedient. She’d never care. If you’re short on help tomorrow, just drag her along to pitch in”
Simon was boiling inside at Victoria’s sarcasm, but he had to keep it together. All he wanted was to get out of there as fast as possible, but his right leg was already lame, so he couldn’t even walk fast.
Then he heard Victoria call out from behind, “Your leg’s already busted, so stop trying so hard. If you really can’t make it, just let Curtis or your good little sister carry you.”
Angelica finally saw it. Simon wasn’t trying to win Victoria over; he was genuinely intimidated by her.
The guy who used to be so untouchable was now getting put down by Victoria again and again, and he didn’t even have the guts to fight back. Honestly, it was embarrassing–just plain embarrassing.
“Damn it! Simon, I can’t stand this little brat anymore!” Curtis finally snapped at Victoria’s attitude. He stopped, turned around, and shot her a warning glare. “Victoria, don’t get too cocky. Sooner or later, I’ll find a way to deal with you.”
“Why don’t you worry about your own scandals trending on X first?” Victoria shot back.
With that, she turned and walked back into the villa.
Curtis clenched his fists and muttered under his breath, “That hell spawned brat.”
After having dinner with her stunning new mom and her cool new dad, Victoria went back to her room and got a message from Eric with the address–Mimiburg. [Vic, see you at noon tomorrow.]
Mimiburg was a well–known restaurant in Benwig City, and it was one of Stephan’s businesses. All the fruits, veggies, and poultry were supplied straight from Mullinran Village.
These past few years, since Stephan was obsessed with exploring the village and barely paid attention to his family’s business, and Eric was completely wrapped up in web novels, Victoria had Mara’s crew invest in the restaurant, putting her in charge as manager.
With Mara’s people running things, business at Mimiburg was booming–almost rivaling some of Benwig City’s oldest and most prestigious hotels.
Realizing Angelica was Eric’s friend made Victoria look forward to tomorrow’s meeting even more.
She quickly texted back: [OK.]
After showering and giving Blackie, Whitey, and Greenie their dinner, Victoria sprawled out on her bed and grabbed her phone.
It buzzed with yet another text from a number she didn’t recognize. [Victoria, read this carefully. Marrying Jackson is something you’ll regret for sure!]
There was a link to an article attached to the message.
It was another brand new number. Victoria wondered where Gavin managed to get so many new numbers.
Victoria glanced at the article title and snorted. ‘Hey, isn’t this the same article I sent to Jackson about him not being able to
have kids?‘
She said: [Gavin, you really don’t need to worry about this. Didn’t I ever tell you? I’m actually a DINK. So honestly, if the guy can’t have kids, that’s even better.]
Gavin didn’t reply right away.
Victoria thought to herself, ‘Guess Gavin will finally give up on me now. Unless he’s really willing to give up having kids just for me?‘

Jackson had just gotten home when he heard Kane’s thunderous roar booming from the main hall. “Jackson, on your knees!” Jackson gestured for Ollie to stop pushing his wheelchair, then turned to face the source of the shouting–his father Kane, sitting at the head of the room, his face twisted with anger.
Jackson asked, genuinely puzzled, “Dad, what are you talking about? What did I do wrong?”
“You’ve got the nerve to ask what you did wrong?!” Kane slammed his hand down on the armrest, jumped to his feet, and jabbed a finger at Jackson. “How could you be so heartless?
“You kicked Sibley out over some petty nonsense, and then you even had someone wreck her knees! That’s just inhuman! And what about your brother Cassian?
“You went through all that trouble to beg your grandfather to bring him back home, and now? You actually went after your own flesh and blood! Have you got no conscience left at all?”
Worked up to the point of trembling, Kane grabbed the coffee pot and cups from the table and smashed them to the floor.
In an instant, the sound of shattering porcelain filled the entire hall, shards flying everywhere.
