Chapter 79
Victoria looked at her dashing new dad, Hector, who was clearly worried sick, and couldn’t help but laugh. “Dad, don’t worry so much. I can take care of myself.”
“Whether you can take care of yourself or not, I still can’t relax,” Hector said seriously.
On the way back, he’d been lost in all sorts of anxious thoughts. If Victoria weren’t so capable and tough, any ordinary kid from the village would’ve been completely crushed by Curtis’s family by now.
Daisy said, “Victoria, just let your dad worry about it. If he doesn’t come up with something, he probably won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
Victoria just went along with her dashing new dad.
It wasn’t until after dinner that Hector finally came up with an idea.
“Starting tomorrow, I’ll have the company develop a device for you to wear. If your heart rate spikes, the system will detect danger and automatically trigger a defensive electric shock. I’ll get an alert instantly and rush to you,” Hector said.
Victoria was taken aback.
Honestly, there were very few things that could actually put her in real danger and make her heart race, but seeing how much her dashing new dad cared about her safety made her feel all warm inside.
“Okay… Dad, but don’t worry. I’m even stronger than you think. I’ll definitely keep myself safe,” Victoria said.
Hector’s
gaze was gentle. “I get it. You used to be on your own, and if you hadn’t been tough, you wouldn’t be the incredible person you are now. But from now on, your mom and I want to help carry the load, so you can finally relax and enjoy being young.”
Victoria, who’d never shed tears over hardship, suddenly felt her eyes sting. Her dashing new dad’s words almost made her
cry.
‘Seriously, what kind of angel dad is this?‘ Victoria thought.
Night fell.
On the way back to the Binder family, Curtis sat in the back seat, endlessly scrolling through X on his phone. No matter how many times the trending topics about the dirt on him got pushed down, every hour, they’d climb right back to the top.
“Simon, what’s going on? Why won’t my name stay off the trending list today?” Curtis complained.
Simon, eyes closed and resting, took the phone, glanced at it, then handed it back. “Looks like someone’s deliberately messing with us. They must’ve spent a fortune on paid bots to manipulate the trends.”
Curtis frowned. “You don’t think it’s Victoria, do you?”
Simon shook his head. “She doesn’t have that kind of cash to throw around. It’s way more likely one of our competitors. They’re scared you’ll get too popular, so they’re taking the chance to kick you when you’re down and bury you for good.
“I’ll have the PR team look into which company is behind this. Just stop checking X for now. Once Leslie puts out a statement, things should settle down a bit.”
Curtis pouted and tossed his phone aside. “Hmph! Those sneaky rats hiding in the shadows, trying to keep me from blowing up? Well, I’m going to shine even brighter and make sure they choke on it!”

Chapter 79
When they got back to the Binder family, the driver parked the car in the garage. Simon grabbed his cane in one hand and picked up the bag at his feet with the other, then turned to Curtis.
He said, “You head back first. I need to go find Victoria and hand over these gardening tools to exchange them for the intidote.”
Curtis just nodded. He didn’t head straight to Silverwood Villa. Instead, he stood there, his expression twisted with esentment as he watched Simon limp away, dragging that big bag of gardening tools toward Goldenwood Villa. Curtis lenched his fists, seething.
Now his brother was limping and groveling. There was no dignity he used to have.
It’s all because of that troublemaker Victoria!‘ Curtis thought bitterly.
Ever since she showed up, their whole family kept running into walls and getting put in their place.
She’s nothing but a jinx. Mom and Dad made the right call not to bring her back as soon as they found out about her! Curtis umed.
She never should’ve been brought back at all!‘ he thought bitterly.
Curtis was still simmering with anger, but the moment he heard that familiar, sweet voice behind him, all his frustration ranished in an instant. “Curtis? Why are you just standing here?”
He turned around and saw Angelica stepping out of the passenger seat of a sleek electric car. She looked absolutely stunning. Her graceful silhouette was like a spring flower in full bloom, vibrant and captivating.
Angelica,” Curtis said.
After getting out, Angelica turned back and gave the man in the driver’s seat a gentle smile. “Thanks for your help today, Eric.”
Eric, sitting behind the wheel, grinned. “No need to be so polite. I’m happy you came to me for help. I’ll pick you up
tomorrow.”
Angelica nodded. “See you tomorrow, then.”
With that, she closed the car door and waved goodbye to Eric through the window.
Once the electric car had pulled away, Curtis finally walked over, looking skeptical. “So that’s your author friend? Driving such a cheap ride.”
Angelica nodded. “Yeah, he writes novels. He’s made a bit of money, but he can’t afford a luxury car.”
Curtis curled his lip in disdain. “With how broke he looks, I really doubt he actually knows Viara. Maybe he’s just spinning stories to get close to you and made it all up to fool you.”
Angelica was caught off guard for a second, then gave an awkward smile. “I doubt it.”
Even though she said that, she couldn’t help but wonder if Curtis might actually have a point.
But she quickly brushed those doubts aside.
No matter what, Eric wasn’t the type to lie to her about something like this.
With that thought, Angelica pushed her worries aside. She glanced up and spotted Simon’s limited–edition luxury car parked in the garage, so she asked, “Is Simon back too? I’ve got some great news for him. Viara said yes to meeting him.”

Curtis was clearly happy for Simon. “That’s awesome news! I’ll take you to him. He’s over at Goldenwood Villa with Victoria.”
Angelica paused, puzzled. ‘What’s Simon doing with Victoria?‘ she wondered.
Is he trying to cozy up to Victoria too?‘ she thought.
Angelica’s smile faded as she followed Curtis to Goldenwood Villa.
On his way to Goldenwood Villa, Simon called Victoria ahead of time.
“Victoria, I’ve got all the gardening tools you asked for,” Simon said.
“Okay, wait for me at the villa entrance,” Victoria replied.
Ten minutes later, Victoria checked over the gardening tools Simon brought–hoes, shovels, rakes, and even some fertilizer. Satisfied, she took out a porcelain bottle, popped out a pill, and tossed it to him.
“Nice work. Don’t forget to come by tomorrow and get started. We’ve got almost an acre to clear,” Victoria said.
Simon quickly reached out to catch it, but he kept eyeing the porcelain bottle in Victoria’s hand, making a mental note of what it looked like.
That way, when he sent someone to swipe it later, he’d be able to give a clear description.
Victoria warned, “You’ve got three days. If you can’t get it done, there won’t be any more antidote for you next time.”
Simon swallowed his humiliation and said coldly, “Understood.”
Just as Simon was about to leave, he heard Angelica call out from behind him. “Simon.”
Simon paused and turned around. “Angelica, why are you here?”
Curtis explained, “Angelica said Viara agreed to meet you, so I brought her over to tell you the good news myself.”
Simon’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
Angelica nodded. “Mm–hmm.”
Inside the villa, Victoria’s eyes lit up when she caught the name “Viara.”
‘Oh?‘ Victoria mused. ‘Wait, is the friend Eric mentioned actually Angelica?‘
