**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 107**
**Amelia’s POV**
As I stood there, grappling with the weight of my emotions, a part of me longed to offer Damien a different response. Yet, the truth loomed large in my mind, and there was simply no way I could return to this place—not after everything that had unfolded.
Damien’s desire to “fix” things felt hollow. The issues that had plagued us before were still very much alive, festering beneath the surface. He wasn’t interested in real change; he just wanted to rewind time to those moments when he could bury his head in the sand, blissfully unaware of my pain or the resentment that brewed within his pack toward me.
I couldn’t bear the thought of slipping back into that life, and even more so, I was determined to shield my daughter from that fate.
Taking a deep breath to steady myself, I faced Damien squarely and declared, “No. I can’t come back, and I won’t.”
I anticipated a rebuttal, perhaps a desperate attempt to sway me with words, but instead, he simply lowered his gaze. Was he concocting a new strategy to manipulate my emotions? Would he try to make me feel guilty for my decision?
I had no intention of lingering to find out.
“If you’ll excuse me,” I said, maneuvering around him with a sense of finality. “I’m tired.”
He made no move to stop me, nor did he even turn to watch as I walked away. I slipped out of the room, retreating to my own sanctuary, where I firmly closed the door behind me and locked it.
Tonight, I craved solitude—no more surprises, whether they be good or bad. All I wanted was the sweet embrace of sleep.
And so, I surrendered to it.
The following morning, I awoke before the sun had fully risen. The hushed whispers filtering through the hallway, the soft exchange between Eve and Cara just outside my door, told me I wasn’t the only one stirring from slumber.
I shuffled to the door, curiosity piquing my interest. As I opened it, I found both women standing there, their expressions a mix of concern and camaraderie. Cara stood with her back slightly turned, as if she had been stationed there, a silent guardian of my rest. Eve, her hair tousled and her eyes still heavy with sleep, looked as though she had just emerged from the realm of dreams, much like I had.
“One of the servants mentioned a cook is preparing breakfast for us,” Eve said, her voice a gentle lilt in the quiet morning.
