**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 117**
**Amelia’s POV**
“It’s gone,” Eve exclaimed, her voice laced with disbelief. “I can’t wrap my head around this. How could it just vanish?”
Instantly, a whirlwind of thoughts surged through my mind, each one more frantic than the last. I began to mentally catalog everyone who had ever shown me disdain or mistrust since I had returned to this pack and this hospital. My thoughts raced, trying to connect the dots with the scant information I had regarding who might have had access to that cabinet.
Then Damien’s words echoed in my mind, a warning about not allowing anyone else to test the cure.
It wasn’t that we had outright refused anyone; rather, it was the palpable lack of faith in our work. Everyone seemed eager to add their own concoctions—mostly werewolf enhancements that would have undoubtedly led to Ethan’s demise.
Gods above, I desperately hoped that whoever had the cure now wasn’t meddling with it.
“Maybe the chemist knows…?” Eve pondered aloud, her brow furrowing as she tried to solve the puzzle. “No, that doesn’t make sense. He left after us and hasn’t returned yet today.” She was lost in her own thoughts, mentally ticking off names, just as I was. “Gods, do we even have the luxury of time to whip up another dose? We were supposed to be using this time to test!”
“I’ll take the lead,” I declared, urgency propelling me toward the workbench. The measurements had to be precise—every single detail mattered. A mere half-ounce off could spell disaster.
I wanted to hurry, to pour my heart and soul into this task, but the gravity of the situation weighed heavily upon me.
“I’ll leverage my position,” Damien said with determination. “Being Alpha has its perks. If anyone knows where it is, I will track them down.”
“But what about the mob?” Eve interjected, her voice tinged with concern. “I’m sorry, Alpha Damien, but you’re the only one who can possibly prevent them from storming this place if things take a turn for the worse.”
I was only half-listening, my concentration firmly anchored on the cure.
But the next words that slipped from Eve’s lips pierced through my fog of anxiety like a dagger.
“If anything happens to Ethan now, even if it’s due to his illness, Amelia and I will bear the blame.”
In a moment of sheer panic, a vial slipped from my fingers, clattering against the workbench. I exhaled a breath I didn’t know I was holding when it didn’t shatter, but the precious liquid spilled out, a cruel reminder of the time slipping away. I would have to clean this mess, sanitize the area, and start over. Each second felt like an eternity, ticking away as I realized how much time we were losing.
This wasn’t going to work. I knew that deep down, but my fears intensified when one of the nurses burst through the door, her face pale and frantic.
