It dawned on me that Damien had taken the initiative to nominate me for this prestigious award.

I spun around, hoping to catch a glimpse of him again, to perhaps excuse myself and express my gratitude. But to my dismay, he had vanished from the vicinity of the elevators. Just like that, he was gone, leaving behind an air of mystery.

“Don’t fret,” Ruby reassured me, her voice warm and comforting as I turned back to face her. “Damien will be at the celebrations all weekend long. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to speak with him.”

Jake, standing a little too close for comfort, muttered under his breath, “If we’re fortunate, we might just avoid him entirely.”

**Damien’s POV**

I made a conscious effort to steer clear of Amelia while she was engaged in conversation with Ruby. I dared not to linger on her for too long; a mere glance in her direction was enough to spot her self-appointed guardian, Jake, glaring at me with an intensity that suggested he was ready to pounce. It was wiser to sidestep any potential confrontation for the time being.

My only wish was for her to truly enjoy this celebration.

I planned to seek her out later, ideally after she had managed to rid herself of the unnecessary burden that accompanied her.

After checking in, I made my way to the elevators and then ascended to my room. The accommodations were undeniably luxurious, yet they felt familiar, almost expected.

The bellman had already taken care of my luggage, but I had no interest in unpacking at that moment. Instead, I moved toward the window, drawn by the breathtaking view of the nearby mountains. They loomed majestically against the skyline, but my thoughts drifted away from their grandeur and focused instead on what Amelia would think of this stunning panorama.

Surely, there were mountains in her world as well. Had she ever laid eyes on them? Were they anything like these towering giants?
