Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 13

**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**

**Chapter 13**

**Damien POV**

The atmosphere of the party buzzed with excitement, laughter ringing through the air like a sweet melody. I found myself seated beside Claire, our position framed by an enormous banner that proclaimed the occasion. All around us, voices mingled in a joyful cacophony, each person eager to share their compliments and enthusiasm about the event.

Yet, amidst this celebration, I felt a profound sense of misery creeping into my heart.

I had been blindsided by my family’s plans. When they finally revealed that this gathering was happening, I felt trapped, like a marionette pulled by strings I couldn’t see. It was my child being celebrated, and as the leader of our pack, my presence was not just expected—it was demanded.

A part of me longed to slip away, to make a brief appearance, shake hands with the heads of the prominent families, and then escape back to the sanctuary of my home. I craved the solace of Amelia’s company. There were so many things left unsaid between us, unresolved feelings that needed tending.

I needed to convey to her that the situation with Claire had no bearing on our marriage, on the bond we shared. Amelia was my mate, my other half, and no amount of pretense could alter that truth. Claire’s insistence on making me sit beside her, as if we were a couple, felt like a cruel joke.

Everyone present knew the reality, of course. No one would genuinely believe I would abandon Amelia for Claire.

If only Amelia could see it that way, I mused bitterly to myself.

I masked my impatience to leave, enduring the endless rounds of small talk that only served to heighten my frustration. It seemed that everyone was more interested in gossip than genuine congratulations. They were eager to speculate about Claire’s potential ascension as the new Luna.

“New Luna?” I echoed in disbelief when the question first surfaced. “What nonsense is this? This pack already has a kind and loving Luna—my wife. Where on earth did you get that idea?”

Claire, ever the picture of composure, smiled sweetly and squeezed my hand. “It’s only natural, Damien. I am having your child, after all. It’s only logical that people wonder if I will take over as Luna.”

Logical? I thought, my mind racing. But before I could voice my thoughts, my phone buzzed insistently in my pocket. I pulled it out, the message sending a chill straight through my veins:

*Amelia’s gone.*

Fury ignited within me. I yanked my hand away from Claire’s grasp and stormed out, ignoring the startled stares and hushed whispers that followed my departure. I couldn’t care less. Why couldn’t anyone understand that my connection with Claire was purely a matter of duty and politics?

I had far more pressing issues to address.
