**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 14**
**Chapter 14**
Shock and regret surged through me like a tempest, two colossal waves crashing against the shores of my mind. Amelia had endured so much, subjecting herself to those grueling treatments, all in the hope of giving me an heir. I could almost see her, the determination etched on her face, the sacrifices she made for us. Yet, in my darkest moments, I had hurled cruel words at her—forcing her into the acceptance of a surrogate, belittling her with my twisted notions about bloodlines and hybrids.
And now, she was gone, lost in the vastness of the realm, carrying our child within her.
For a fleeting moment, I stood paralyzed, the weight of my loss suffocating me. It was as if the world around me had faded, leaving only the hollow echo of my regret. It took an eternity for Dr. Wyatt’s concerned voice to pierce through the fog of my despair.
“Alpha? Are you there? Is Amelia alright? I need to speak with her. Alpha Damien, where is your wife?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” I blurted out, my voice thick with emotion. “I would have been overjoyed! I would have fought the entire world if necessary to ensure our child was recognized as my heir!”
Would I truly have fought for that? I found myself grappling with the ingrained prejudices that had festered within me, the reflexive disdain I had harbored for hybrid wolves—those half-humans whom society often dismissed as inferior.
Would I have stood against that tide? Was I really a coward at heart?
Dr. Wyatt continued to inquire about Amelia, but I had no answers, just a void where hope once resided. I ended the call, my heart heavy, pondering how such a beautiful miracle had spiraled into a catastrophic disaster.
Just then, a car pulled into the driveway, and out stepped my sister, Victoria. A fresh wave of rage surged within me, finding a new target to unleash my pent-up frustration.
“You,” I seethed, striding toward her and gripping her arms tightly. “What did you say to Amelia? What have you done?”
Victoria met my gaze with a calmness that only fueled my anger. “I merely advised her to do what’s right. She needs to step down as Luna and allow Claire to take her place. That’s all.”
I was on the verge of unleashing my fury upon them, ready to tell them precisely what they could do with their so-called duty, when my Beta, Ethan, returned from his search. He had been tracing Amelia’s scent—she had ventured deep into the woods. The mere thought of her alone out there sent a chill of dread coursing through me.
“Alpha, we’ve tracked her scent deep into the forest. It leads to a battleground. It seems there was a clash between rogues and Alpha Jake’s pack—their scents are intermingled, along with a significant amount of blood.”
I felt my heart drop. Amelia, isolated and caught in the crossfire of a brutal conflict? The violence of a single pair of werewolves could be terrifying, but an entire pack in battle was a nightmare beyond comprehension.
Forgetting my sister and mother, I turned to Ethan, urgency coursing through my veins. “And then what? Where does her scent lead after that?”
Ethan lowered his gaze, a shadow of sorrow crossing his features. “I’m sorry, Alpha. With all that blood, it’s impossible to determine her path. I…I can’t even tell you if she’s alive or dead.”
