Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 138

**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 138**

**Chapter 138**

I didn’t even need to brace myself for the inevitable.

The needle slid in and out with an ease that surprised me.

“One down, two to go,” Dr. Wyatt announced, her voice steady and encouraging.

A smile began to form on my lips, a flicker of hope igniting within me.

But then, without warning, a searing pain erupted in my arm, as if fire had been unleashed within my veins, racing through my bloodstream with an intensity that took my breath away.

I gasped, doubling over in agony.

“What is it?” Dr. Wyatt’s voice cut through the haze of pain, her concern palpable. “This shouldn’t hurt! What’s wrong?”

“The pain!” I managed to choke out, fighting to suppress the other words that threatened to spill from my lips.

I hadn’t experienced anything like this in a long time… not since those horrific injections designed to enhance my fertility.

An immune system stabilizer was not supposed to inflict such torment!

This had to be Damien’s doing.

He must truly despise me now, having resurrected me only to subject me to this kind of suffering.

I gritted my teeth, attempting to endure the pain, but it was too overwhelming, too white-hot; a scream tore from my throat before I could contain it.

And then, mercifully, the world went black as I succumbed to unconsciousness.

**Damien’s POV**

Alright. The reunion didn’t unfold quite as joyfully as I had envisioned. I knew that for Amelia, an adjustment of this magnitude would require time and patience.

But I was confident that eventually, she would come to understand the necessity of my actions.

All I needed to do was focus on repairing the rift between us, to shift Amelia’s perception of me from that of a monster to someone worthy of her affection.

I was still the man she had once loved deeply.

Perhaps, to achieve this, I needed to start anew, to court her all over again.

I took a step closer, desperate for answers.

Suddenly, Amelia cried out, retreating from me as if I were a threat. The anger that had once flickered in her eyes had vanished, replaced by sheer terror, her eyes wide and filled with fear.

Seeing her in such distress pierced through my heart like an arrow, freezing me in place.

“Amelia?” I called, my voice barely above a whisper.

She didn’t respond; instead, she turned and fled, darting up the stairs, likely seeking refuge in her room.

I turned to Cara, searching for answers, trying to intercept her before she could rush after Amelia.

“What the hell happened? You were supposed to be protecting her!” I demanded, a wave of inadequacy crashing over me once more.

Because I was the one who was meant to keep her safe. Me.

And I had failed. Again.

“This is your fault,” Cara said, her words echoing the truth I already felt deep within my heart.

But I still didn’t understand why.
