Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 157

Chapter 157

Claire’s POV

Victoria and I, despite our high-ranking within our own pack, were not immediately given audience with the king. Despite having heard about our arrival, he seemed to enjoy making us wait, perhaps punishing us in a lighter manner but just as he was punishing our Alpha.

Finally, after hours of waiting, Victoria and I were called into a special sitting room, where we sat among a set of plush sofas, waiting for our king to arrive. He did, shortly after, causing us to stand up again and bow lowly at his

entrance.

He gruffly gave a wordless grunt of a greeting before moving to a comfortable high-backed chair, where he sat down. Once he sat, we sat as well, returning to our positions side by side on the couch.

“I’ve been told that you are from Alpha Damien’s pack, here to try to plead on his behalf,” the king said.

Victoria opened her mouth, but then closed it with fear. She looked at me like she was hoping I would do the talking. For someone who grew up as an Alpha’s daughter and then a new Alpha’s sister, she was certainly a coward.

No matter.

I, on the other hand, was no coward, and I would handle this, what she could not.

“Yes,” I said, lowering my head demurely, hoping to convince the Alpha King of my meekness and sincerity, as well as my loyalty to him as king. Damien’s treasonous acts had called into question the loyalty of our entire pack. I couldn’t allow the king to believe this was normal, or he might decide to wipe out the entire pack.

It had happened in the past. Alpha Kings could be ruthless when it came to holding onto power. Even the slightest hint of treachery could lead to a tragedy and misery.

“Alpha King, with great respect, I have come here to beg for your forgiveness for our Alpha,” I said.

“He is my brother,” Victoria said uselessly.

The Alpha King looked at Victoria with new scrutiny.

I pushed forward. “Our Alpha is innocent. See, his mind has been bewitched by a human woman named Amelia. She cast some sort of spell on him to make him act like not himself. He never would have thought to act out against you if it was not because of her.”

“Yes,” the Alpha King said. “I am aware of this witch. It was she in my dungeons before your foolish Alpha intervened. Now she is out there likely ensnaring other young men.”

“A great regret,” I said.

“But I cannot see how you think that would make me sympathetic to your cause here,” the Alpha King said. “ Ensorcelled men cannot be saved. That is a well-known fact.”

“Please,” Victoria said suddenly. “That human girl is cursed by the Moon Goddess. You cannot take that out on my brother!”

“I can do whatever I want, young lady,” the king replied. “I am the King.”

This was getting out of hand. If we didn’t find a way to convince him soon, we might never be able to.

I placed my hand on my stomach. “Please, Alpha King,” I said, adding a new level of pathetic to my voice. I forced

some tears into my eyes. “I’m carrying Alpha Damien’s heir. Please do not force my daughter to live without her father.”

The Alpha King glanced down at my belly, then up to my face. For a moment, his face was as hard and unreadable as a stone wall. “He is having a child… with you?”

“Yes.”

“You are not his mate,” the Alpha King said.

“No.”

Slowly, his brow started to lower, making him look both angry and annoyed. “Before the witch was detained, there was an accusation made of Alpha Damien being a cheater. A man who purposefully abused the mating bond to torture his wife. A wife who is not you, yet you carry his child.”

I paled a little, realizing where this was going and that it wasn’t in my favor at all.

“I can see now that the accusation of infidelity is true,” the Alpha King said.

“It isn’t like that,” I said at once, hoping to backtrack but the king shook his head, not allowing me to continue.

“You would do best to find a new father for your child, miss,” the Alpha King said. “Alpha Damien will face the axe. The execution will proceed as intended.”

The king rose then and walked out.

I sat in silence for a moment, uncertain what to do. Victoria was just as shocked beside me.

Before we could truly recover, another female voice whispered from the door.

“Is it true?” Sienna asked, showing herself. She must have been eavesdropping. “Are you carrying Damien’s child?”

“Yes,” I answered. Her eavesdropping annoyed me, but compared to everything else going on, it felt like nothing right now. “But the King misunderstood some of it. The child was not conceived naturally. Amelia did steal Damien from me, but that happened long before the pregnancy.”

Sienna frowned. “I don’t like being lied to.”

“Get out of here,” Victoria said. “What do you care, anyway? Our Alpha is the one about to be killed.”

“And my brother is on the run,” Sienna said.

I shook my head and turned to Victoria, determined not to listen to Sienna anymore.

Amelia’s POV

It was a long road, but Jake and I finally approached the palace. He had insisted on some basic disguises for our trek, mostly with me wearing a hat and sunglasses while he wore a sweatshirt with the hood pulled up. I wasn’t sure how actually disguised we were but no one seemed to bother us so that in itself was a victory.

Maybe we just got lost in the crowd, however, which seemed to be thickening as we neared the palace.

“What’s going on?” I asked Jake. “Is the Alpha King having some kind of party?”

Jake gave me a sideways glance. “Today he’s executing a pack Alpha. That kind of thing draws attention.”

Wait, wait, wait. People actually wanted to watch an execution?
