Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 168

Chapter 168

Her eyes shot open again. “Claire! You can’t just – -”

“Do you have any idea what will happen to the pack if a human-werewolf halfling is made Alpha? Our pack would be a laughing stock. The invasions would come in a day. The south would just roll all over us,” I said. “The pack needs a strong Alpha. It needs my daughter.”

“Maybe, but…”

“Maybe?” I gawked. “Do you disagree?”

“It’s not about disagreeing,” she said, hedging. “I just don’t know about killing a baby…”

“It’s for the best, Victoria. Surely you must see that.”

She lowered her gaze, and I realized she was going to be a hard sell. If I kept working at it, though I was certain I could convince her to come over to my side of things. In time. Just like I had with everything else.

“Think about it,” I said.

“Okay…” she said, and I already saw the cracks in her defiance.

It was only a matter of time before I would convince her. And then, together, we could work to ending that brat’s miserable life before it even began.

Amelia’s POV

On the ride home, I sat beside Jake in the backseat of his car, staring out the window. I was entirely lost in my thoughts over everything that had happened, from my own near-death experience to saving Damien just before he lost his life.

And then everything that came after.

Jake had already explained to me everything that had been revealed and confessed, that Claire herself admitted their child was not from a sexual encounter. Jake seemed certain that Damien and Claire weren’t having an affair.

My own certainty was in question now as well. Ever since Damien kissed me, the pain from the mating bond had cleared. Was it possible that Claire had just been manipulating me? Maybe the pain never had to do with infidelity at all, and was because of something else.

As a Healer, I was going to have to look into this more seriously. But for now…

I felt a heavy sort of melancholy deep in my bones.

Reflecting as I was, I could see now that my own reckless actions weren’t just because I didn’t want a man today, as I had previously convinced myself. I was a Healer after all, and had sworn oaths to help wherever I was able.

In this case, though, placing my own life back in danger, I knew I had only done so to save Damien specifically.

When I thought I might face the world without him, I couldn’t just sit idly by and allow him to be taken from me.

And I did this because I was still in love with him. It was that love that had caused me to act, throwing caution to

the wind.

“Jake,” I said.

“Hm?” he asked. He had been looking out his own window, seemingly lost in his own thoughts.

“Do you think Damien will really expel Claire?” I asked.

He considered, then sighed. “I don’t know, Amelia. Before all this happened, I would have said no. But… he had been willing to put a lot more on the line for you than I thought he would have.”
