Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 17

**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 17**

**Amelia POV**

The weight of the revelation hung in the air like a storm cloud, heavy and electric. “Alpha Damien is the father of your child,” Jake had said, and in that moment, the truth I had tried so desperately to hide was laid bare. His suspicion had been right all along, and I could no longer weave a web of lies to protect myself. With a slow, reluctant nod, I confirmed what he had feared.

Sienna’s expression morphed from curiosity to disbelief, her eyes widening as she processed the implications. “Your other mate is an Alpha? Yeah, you’re definitely a witch,” she scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain.

The accusation stung. Being labeled a witch carried serious consequences, and I had no desire to add another threat to my already precarious situation. “I’m not,” I protested softly, my voice wavering as I spoke. Though I directed my words at Sienna, my gaze sought Jake’s, desperately hoping for understanding. “I’m just a human, and an orphan at that. Nothing more.”

As I spoke, I felt the sting of tears prickling at the corners of my eyes. I fought to keep them at bay, unwilling to show the vulnerability that threatened to consume me. “I met Damien in the human realm,” I continued, my voice trembling as I recounted my past. “He told me we were fated mates, and I believed him. I felt that instant connection, that spark that made everything else fade away. So we got married, and I came here to be with him, to be Luna to his pack. I tried so hard to fit in, to embrace my role.”

I paused, the memories flooding back, each one more painful than the last. “But many in the pack rejected me because I was human. They turned my life into a nightmare, making every day a struggle. I wanted nothing more than to give Damien an heir, to fulfill my duty as his mate, but now… now he’s found someone else, a werewolf, to carry a child for him. So I— I ran away.”

Even as I recounted the story, the bitterness swelled in my throat, a reminder of the betrayal that had shattered my heart. The enormity of my suffering felt like a weight I could barely bear. How could I possibly navigate the turmoil that had engulfed my life?

Silence enveloped the room after I finished speaking, each second stretching into eternity as I searched Jake’s face for some sign of understanding or compassion.

“No, I don’t buy it,” Sienna interjected, her voice sharp and dismissive.

When Jake turned to respond, she cut him off, her tone rising with indignation. “No, Jake. You know what? You can keep the new car. We shouldn’t get involved in this. Damien is not someone to mess with.”

She directed a sneer my way, her contempt palpable. “You can’t possibly think she’s telling the truth. A human mated to an Alpha? And somehow able to carry his child? She must be a witch. Or if she’s not, then I bet she’s some kind of criminal, looking for her next victim to exploit.”

Jake’s voice sliced through the tension like a knife. “Silence, Sienna. I’ve had enough of your attitude. Remember who the Alpha is here. I’ve made my decision, and that’s all you need to know.”

Sienna’s mouth dropped open, clearly taken aback by Jake’s unexpected harshness. It was a stark contrast to his usual kind demeanor, and I could see the shock ripple through her. Yet, as her eyes narrowed at me, I understood that she would not let go of her disdain easily. I was now a target in her sights.

Jake turned back to me, his tone softening, a stark contrast to the confrontation that had just unfolded. “Don’t worry, Amelia,” he assured me, his voice steady and reassuring. “I’m going to handle this. Everything’s going to be alright, I promise.”

“But what if—” I hesitated, my heart racing with fear. What if Damien decided to ignore the politics and crossed Jake’s boundaries? What if he somehow coerced Jake into handing me over?

The thought sent a chill down my spine. I would be a prisoner again, and my child’s future would be nothing but a bleak path filled with misery and suffering. Deep down, I sensed that this was my last chance at freedom. If Damien took me back home, there would be no escape.

Noticing my rising panic, Jake reached for a phone resting on the coffee table, dialing with swift determination. “Here,” he said, handing me one phone while tucking the other into his shirt pocket. “Keep this line open so you can listen, okay? You’ll hear everything for yourself.”

I could feel him preparing to leave, but then he turned back, his voice icy and filled with menace. “I will say this: If I find out you or anyone in this pack had anything to do with her disappearance… I won’t let that slide. There will be consequences.”

My heart clenched painfully at his words. I knew he wasn’t bluffing; Damien could be merciless when it came to retribution.

Perhaps I had miscalculated by seeking refuge with Jake. If Damien discovered they were harboring me, he would stop at nothing to reclaim me and our child. I was endangering everyone in this pack simply by being here.

Jake remained silent in the face of Damien’s threat, a testament to his bravery. He stood firm, not flinching in the shadow of Damien’s formidable presence.

Instead, he asked with a calm demeanor, “This woman you’re searching for so desperately—who is she to you? She must be someone valuable, or perhaps personally significant?”

There was a pause, and I could almost envision the two men sizing each other up across the invisible divide of their territories. Damien, with his powerful physique and dark, striking features, stood in stark contrast to Jake, who was fair and steady, exuding a quiet confidence.

The differences between them struck me anew, and I thought again of the bond I felt with Jake. It was a strange, immediate connection that defied explanation.

After a moment, Damien’s voice returned, distant and devoid of emotion. “No, no one special. Just a pack member,” he stated, and I could hear him walking away.

My heart shattered at his words, the finality of them echoing in my mind.
