Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 178

Chapter 178

So I dialed Jake’s number. The phone rang for a good long time, but I was persistent and let it ring. It never went to voicemail.

After a couple of solid minutes of ringing, Jake finally picked up.

“Take a hint, Damien,” he grumbled, his voice low, like he was already prepped for a fight.

“I just want to know how she is,” I said. “I haven’t heard anything since Dr. Wyatt’s report.”

“You have a lot of nerve,” Jake scoffed. “You really want more details about how and why your poison didn’t work. Why? So you can try again?”

Wait. Wait. Wait. “You think I did this?” I asked.

“Who else would it have been?” Jake said.

“I would never -”

“Mark my words, Damien,” Jake said. “You will never be close to Amelia or her baby ever again.”

“I didn’t have a damn thing to do with this,” I growled, my own anger sparking now. Who was he to threaten me? Amelia was my wife, and the baby was my daughter.

“If that’s true,” Jake growled. “Prove it.”

Then he hung up.

I moved the phone away from my hand long enough to glare down at it.

It had not occurred to me that Jake’s pack would blame me for the poisoning.

That Amelia would.

Hadn’t we connected at the capital? Hadn’t I proved that I would go to the ends of the world to keep Amelia safe? That I would give up everything, including my own life?

Was that action not enough to prove how much I cared?

And if that wasn’t enough, what possible more could I do?

For a moment, I felt helpless. If Amelia wouldn’t even hear me out, how could I hope to convince her?

Then I glanced over at the stacks of paper on my desk. Grabbing one and a pen, I was struck with inspiration. I would write her a heartfelt letter, something from the heart, explaining everything and also expressing my feelings.

She could ignore the letter… but I didn’t think she would.

Amelia was a curious type, and she was carrying our child. For better or worse, ultimately she would want to read the letter for herself.

I knew I only had one shot at this. If I failed here, the odds of her reading a second letter became more slim. If I didn’t win her over with this, I would lose her.

So I put everything into the letter, spilling my heart all over the page.

I was surprised when Ethan walked into the living room midday, when he was supposed to be working. There, he passed me a letter. “What is it?” I asked, though reading the address on the envelope, I understood.

This was a letter from Damien to Amelia.

Immediately, I tore it open and pulled out the letter. I scoured over it.

Victoria, who had been visiting, leaned over in her chair. “What does it say?”

“Nothing good,” I grumbled. What sickening fluff was this?

It turned my stomach, though not just because of the sugary sweetness on the pages. Damien was absolutely pouring his heart out here, and his words were convincing. If Amelia cared for him at all, which I suspected that she did, then she would be moved by this letter.

A weighed pressed heavily on my own shoulders. Damien truly carried for Amelia, and seemed set on continuing to pursue her, despite learning that she wasn’t a werewolf.

This wasn’t good at all, and meant I had to amplify my efforts not just to kill the baby, but Amelia herself.

But when…? How?

Then I remembered the Alpha Ball. It was in a few weeks’ time, and the perfect opportunity, the perfect cover for murder.
