Chapter 181
After all, I still hadn’t received a reply to my letter. Seeing her in person might be the only way to convey my well wishes and my love.
If she would even listen to me…
I didn’t have much choice. It was a longshot on top of a longshot, but I still had to take the chance, if it meant I might catch a glimpse of Amelia and my baby.
Gods, she had to be so close to going into labor. Couldn’t it be any day now?
“Very well,” I said. “We’ll go.”
Victoria cheered.
“”
Mother’s frown only lifted a little. She still seemed displeased with me, and likely would until I changed my mind about Claire.
Let her be angry forever then. I had no intention of forgiving Claire for what she’d done, now or ever.
Amelia’s POV
I sat in the examination room with both Healer Eve and Dr. Wyatt, being given a physical before Jake and I were to set out onto the road, headed toward the Alpha Ball. Well, he was headed to the Alpha Ball. I was only accompanying him to help give him some peace of mind.
Even so, I was happy to see a new part of the world.
I was also pleased to be seeing so much of Dr. Wyatt.
While I wished I hadn’t been poisoned, I was glad such a terrible thing could leave to Dr. Wyatt defecting from Damien’s pack and joining Jake instead. It made things easier for me to get my check-ups, and with the baby almost ready to come out any time now, I was relieved to know she would be here, ready and waiting when I went into labor.
With the expected date drawing so near, there was some debate between the two doctors if I should be able to go on this trip at all.
“If she goes into labor while she’s there, we cannot trust their resources to facilitate a healthy delivery,” Dr. Wyatt said.
“Neither can we do that if she stays,” Eve said. “We’ve been planning sure, but you know the odds… Well…”
With the way they were talking, it sounded a lot like they didn’t think my chances at a healthy delivery were particularly good here either, even with their advanced knowledge and medical experience.
“Is something wrong?” I asked.
“It’s not that,” Eve said, looking away.
Dr. Wyatt looked at me directly. “Eve isn’t wrong, Amelia. The delivery of your baby will be difficult on you no matter where you are. While I would like to be there when it happens, there’s no guarantee that if I am that I will even be able to help as much as I want to. In the end, it will be up to your body…”
They’d never made any secret that the birth of my baby would be hard on me. After all, the pregnancy hadn’t been either, but I still made it through. I had to believe the delivery would be similar.

Yet, with the way Eve was avoiding direct contact, I was starting to wonder. I was a Healer too, and could read between the lines here.
There was bad news they were hesitating on sharing with me.
